[Closed] Why didn't Susan use her horn...

Actually, Susan should have just shot him, seeing as she was such and amazing archer (and seeing how quickly she knocked her arrows in PC). However, no help could have come quick enough to save Mr. Beaver. Perhaps it wasn't as realistic, but the concept of the horn is unrealistic in itself, which seems, to me, to be the main reason you dislike this part.

As the Servant said, I think that the help would not have arrived quickly enough if she had even thought to blow the horn. And then, she would probably have wondered, what help would it be anyway? Aslan? And considering that everyone thinks she had a lack of faith, she would probably have ruled out the idea of Aslan coming to save them. (Although then I wonder why she would have any hope in Aslan at all to save Narnia. #-o ) But she wouldn't have known how to use her bow in time to shoot the Wolf, and when you're stuck on a melting river, with ice falling down around you, that's not the time to learn.

Besides, I don't think she would have had the time for debates like this! It's an action scene! ;)

Yeah, you're right. Perhaps the melting river scene was put in merely for the purpose of it being cool (you've got to admit that the score was amazing at that time. It may have be over dramatized, but still really great)

I don't remember where I saw it, but in one of Mr. Adamson's interviews he said that the melting waterfall scene was put in because he had liked the way the burning bridge scene in Shrek worked so he wanted something like that, but he didn't want to use a burning bridge so he came up with a melting waterfall instead. 8-|

Wow, that's a great reason to insert a new scene into the story.

And I had thought it was a cool, original scene that wouldn't be linked to other movies!

Another possibility is that perhaps she thought if she blew the horn the loudness would cause the ice to break faster. Though I think the most likely explanation is, as others have suggested, that she did not believe that it would work or just did not think of it.

LOL! That is true. My mom and i watched it again recently on Disney and she said the same thing and we were laughing about it. She could have used the horn then.

if she had blown the horn at the frozen river, then a lot of bad things might have been prevented!

What exactly? They still would have had to get Edmund back somehow. The WW would still have insisted on Edmund's death or a replacement. Aslan would still have died. Nothing would have changed, just happened quicker.

Are you sure you aren't posting this stuff so you can play thread necromancer? :P

For better or worse, I think it was because they had Adamson, Peacock, Markus and McFeely writing that script.

Unfortunately, in this case, it was for worse. Much worse.

I absolutely agree. That is another reason to hate the river scene. Susan should have used her horn. Was that perhaps a flaw on the director's part? Regardless, the river scene was terrible, and I did not like Susan at all in that part.

I love the Frozen river scene! it makes the movie more dramatic ( I love dramatic movies!) yeah, and I'm not a Narnia book/movie purist, so I don't care that it wasn't in the book!
I like Andrew's original version of a burning bridge! I wish I could have seen that done!

I was just watching LWW again and when i watched the Frozen River scene, it didn't bother me when Susan didn't blow the horn..... :)

Everyone has really good explanations...I do wish they cut the frozen river scene (completely uneeded and kinda cliche...). I agree that Susan should have used her horn, but I can see why she didn't...if I was like her and in her position, I probably wouldn't have either. She didn't think they were really in trouble...but I definetly don't think she forgot about it...Peter's waving his sword around how could she forget her own gift?
