I voted that both are equally bad. Both make a very bad choice. VDT has no antagonist...so why should they try to make one up? It's time they stopped sractching the bottom of the barrel lest they come up with splinters under their fingernails!!
Ok, that was a bit harsh...sorry...but I seriously don't think they should have put any witch in there at all

Tash is very powerful but he's more a lesser demon than equal to Satan himself. But Aslan trumps all evil in the end.

I always was of the opinion that Tash was the Satan of the Narnia world, while the White Witch was the personification of death. This is because it is Death that Christ destroyed in his Resurrection, while Satan continued and will last until cast down in the Last Days. Which can logically be shown as Aslan killing the White Witch after his resurrection with Tash lasting until the Last Battle.
I think the LotGK would have been a better villain than the WW in VODT. I'd rather have neither of them, I think this whole thing with the Mist and the unfathomable fate to be ridiculous, but if I had to choose between witches I'd choose the introduction of the LotGK.

My overview of VODT: http://lady-lirenel.livejournal.com/151965.html
I don't really object to the Dark Island being caused by Jadis, but I do object to her being "up and about." Theoretically, she can't be up and about unless someone brought her back—hint at LotGK, perhaps?
Perhaps this Dark Island was something that was created a long time ago—perhaps where Jadis lived and waited for the Tree of Protection to die. Perhaps it's part of her "legacy"—something from the past that would have been there whether or not she had been alive. And maybe it's someone else that's messing with it, causing it to "grow" and pose potential problems for Narnia.
To me, this whole "green mist" thing screams of LotGK. We can only hope that the White Witch and LotGK haven't been combined as the same character.
Also, I think it might be possible that they will include WW in other movies, including SC (Here's how, LotGK is an apprentice of Jadis and is using The Silver Chair to drain energy/courage/manhood/something out of Rilian so she can bring Jadis back).
Hmmm, that's a really good idea! I can definitely imagine that LotGK was an apprentice to Jadis—didn't she say that she was born during the Age of Winter? I need to re-read my copy of SC. I think it could definitely make sense.
But then, knowing the way these films are going, they will probably have Tash be The White Witch, too.
At present I am trying to force the unnerving mental image of Tilda Swinton in a really ridiculous vulture headdress out of my brain.
Please, no.
Agreed Archer.
The VotDT is not supposed to have a major villain. Don't people realize that some of the best films don't have huge villains? Even LotR didn't focus on the villains in some ways as much as these films are.

I would of course prefer to have no witches in the movie, but it would be ridiculous to have the LoGK!! So the White Witch is better. People wouldn't know what's going on when the former appeared!

Well, part of the point of the Chronicles is to show that while they see a great deal of evil, none of it comes close to the goodness and power of Aslan. The book, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, emphasized this.
Now it's getting into sort of an exorcist fallacy where it portrays Aslan and whatever evil is out there as a mano a mano battle. Hardly the case.

Maybe the Dark Island is, to an extent, represent hell and the White Witch is trying to escape hell by manifesting from Edmund's dreams. I know it doesnt make much sense, but it makes a tad more sense then Jadis actually creating Dark Island.
Another idea I had is that maybe instead of having Tilda in person play Lady of the Green Kirtle, the filmakers may have her spirit posses another girl in VotDT, thus creating the origin of The Lady of the Green Kirtle.
Uggh, I'm far from a purist but this is ridiculous.
Winter Is Coming
I voted that I don't think there should be any Witch, but LotGK is the better choice than Jadis. Jadis's appearance in PC went far enough -- it went against the honorable theme in the book, but I could understand the cinematic change. For her to appear in VDT, while possibly being plausible as Edmund's nightmare , is crazy repetition.
But the idea of a soul-sucking cave sounds just as crazy. If only they could have added the LotGK in a different way.
^^Josh, the 2nd idea you had is down right scary. I still think the Lady of the Green Kirtle (I can almost guarantee that they will give her a proper name, like Ramandu's daughter becoming Liliandil) should be an apprentice of Jadis.

I'm intrigued by the idea of a soul-sucking cave but I certainly wouldn't want it in a Narnian movie!

I don't believe that any witch as a villian should be present in VDT. We don't need to see a witch present in every Narnia story (it certainly takes away from the Lady of the Green Kirtle). Each story has its own type of villian. I feel like it takes away from the character of Ramandu's Daughter as well, especially now since she seems to playing a bigger role in the film. I know she's not a villian, but someone not familiar with the books might think Ramandu's Daughter is the "good witch" equivalent to the White Witch, being able to go from star to human form at will (or as a reference to the Blue Fairy in Pinocchio for that matter). The villian should just be the darkness in oursleves. Hince the power of Dark Island. It isn't ruled by anyone (witch or otherwise), it is its own entity.
Honestly, the inclusion of the White Witch in VDT is a main reason (possibly even the main reason) why I may just skip on seeing VDT in theaters (and that is a big deal for a Narnia fan).

I think I hate the idea of the LotGK having a name more than them naming Ramandu's Daughter. Call me crazy, but I think not naming the characters makes them far more unique and interesting than slapping them with some generic fantasy label. The Lady of the Green Kirtle sounds mysterious and interesting. Sallyloolyalfabetica or whatever silly name they might come up with just won't have that impact.
Yeah i agree that they should not name the Lady of the Green Kirtle. It is worse then naming Ramandu's daughter. The Lady of the Green Kirtle sounds mysterious and sets the character apart.
