When is the Vodt gonna finish filming? And why is it that after they're finished, they wait like 4 months to release it? (I know, it's due out in May.) X(

They finish filming in 3 weeks time. And the release date is not until December 2010. So thats almost a full 12 months of post-production, which will be used for all manner of things, such as Editing, Scoring, Sound Production, CGI, etc

Well, its actually going to be released Dec. 10, 2010. Filming is slated to finish sometime in November of this year. The reason it takes so long after filming wraps to release the movie is because of all the post-production work: editing, special effects, voice redubs, possible re-shoots, things of that nature. Also the studio wants to release the movie in December because they feel (correctly in my opinion) that a December release date will help to maximize profits.

Beat me to it, Icarus ;)

Yep, they'll finish up filming mid-November. Three weeks according to the Halloween Party article.

And as icarus (ETA: and bkey) said, the movie isn't coming out til Dec 2010. The reason they're using 13 months for post-production is simple... Reepicheep (and other major CGI bits).

Most regular movies only take a month or two to for post-production, but the problem with fantasy films, you have to add in all this CGI and the more complicated it gets, the longer it takes. Plus you have to remember as well that this will be Michael Apted's first film like this, so I'm sure they're giving him a nice buffer to get things just the way he wants. :)

And finally, Fox and Walden picked out the release date (as opposed to something like September) to maximize the amount of money it makes, because lots of families go see movies over the Holidays.

Make sense?

so will that mean that the dvd will be released in May? I think it would be good marketing to release it in Dec like they did in PC(for christmas gifts) but that would mean waiting a whole year...no thank you!!!!

Disney released LWW in time for Easter. I have no idea when Fox will release VDT.

Finished filming in mid-November? Wow, so soon already! The actors will be right on time for school if they did a little during the summer.

The filmmakers must have quite a veritable amount of editing to do. It's quite exciting to think about! Creating the dufflepuds' feet, the dragon Eustace (really hope they make that realistic and don't mess it up), Dark Island, Ramandu's Island, adjusting lighting filters, VO's, etc.

yeah December seems like a much better time than May or something for a Narnia movie. But wow that's over a year away :-s . Oh well, years go by fast.

december 2010 feels like such a long time away, but i'd rather that they do a good job and don't have to be rushed and make themselves stressed :)

The time will go by fast, n_l127! From when NarniaWeb first started - six year ago now - it seems a short stretch of time.

How soon will the trailer come out? It's usually 2-3 months before the release date right?

@ A_Narnian_Ship, for the theatrical trailer yes. Hopefully we will get a teaser trailer or two several months before that.
