I havent been on this site in a long time, and I keep hearing complaints about the moviemakers adding in a plot about an unfathomable fate or whatever.
First of all, what does unfathomable mean?
Second, where is this info coming from anyway? I can't find it.

un·fath·om·a·ble /‹nŠfæJ()mbl/
*ADJ. incapable of being fully explored or understood: her gray eyes were dark with some unfathomable emotion | the unfathomable nature of human

(of water or a natural feature) impossible to measure the extent of: mountains of
unfathomable scale.
2. Here is a link from Walden's site that has a press release that that mentions the unfathomable fate. http://www.walden.com/blogpost/narnia_v ... s_filming/

1. unfathomable def: impossible to comprehend
2. it was from a synopsis of the movie that was released. I can't seem to find it either...

From the official synopsis:
"This time around – Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, along with their pesky cousin Eustace Scrubb – find themselves swallowed into a painting and on to a fantastic Narnian ship headed for the very edges of the world.
Joining forces once again with their royal friend Prince Caspian and the warrior mouse Reepicheep, they are whisked away on a mysterious mission to the Lone Islands, and beyond. On this bewitching voyage that will test their hearts and spirits, the trio will face magical Dufflepuds, sinister slave traders, roaring dragons and enchanted merfolk. Only an entirely uncharted journey to Aslan’s Country – a voyage of destiny and transformation for each of those aboard the Dawn Treader – can save Narnia, and all the astonishing creatures in it, from an unfathomable fate."
Josh, it means nobody can understand it [i.e. the press release, which is why the latest synopsis has sensibly dropped the expression!!! ]
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
I'm curious to see how in the world they're going to put Narnia in danger like that...all this unfathomable fate talk sounds like TLB, not Dawn Treader. It does up the urgency of the voyage and put the Aslan's Country on the foreground of the story instead of the main thing being the Seven Lords and trying to find Aslan's country being just a side plot.
What's wrong in Narnia? Did someone not uphold the deep magic, and is Narnia going to perish in fire and water if they don't find Aslan soon enough?
^^lol I know, it's all fairly ridiculous...

Most likley, a different person wrote that second synopsis. The odds of a second person using the exact same expression is very slim. The fact that the term "unfathomable fate" was not included in the second synopsis proves nothing.
IF there is an unfathomable fate, I really will give up on the whole series. If they have to be THAT deviating from the nature of the book, it proves they can't make any of the Narnia books well.
But, like others here have pointed out, I'm fairly confident that the unfathomable fate was just a movie synopsis hook, something to get the reader/viewer interested. Plenty of movie blurbs (on the backs of videos and dvds) are horrible summaries of the actual movie plot.
I'm more anxious about how big a role the MLG has.
"Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed."- CS Lewis
^^as am I. I'm just glad it's gone now. I don't care if it means nothing, I just like to think it does

^^ awesome point! how can they possible put Narnia in that much danger ( and they will have to make it up since it's not in the book) that it's unfathomable?
i think that the reason they stopped using the word was to make it sound better! but it didn't work.....

Sorry I haven't seen the second synopsis. Could someone please link me to it? I wondered if the unfathomable fate had something to do with Ed, Lu and Eustace not being able to get back to England. Or perhaps it could've been to do with making the Duffers visible again or they would kill Caspian or something. Who knows? Whatever it was supposed to be I guess it's gone. Maybe they changed the script or it was added in the first place just for intrigue/interest or just to annoy us die-hard fans!!!

Here are all 4 official synopsis we have had so far. The changes in each synopsis may reflect the changes in direction they were taking with the movie at the time, especially in the first two synopsis when they were probably still experimenting with the script... or perhaps the changes in the synopsis just illustrate how nonsensical the world of synopsis writing is, and how we shouldn't ever read too much into them
Lucy and Edmund Pevensie make their third trip back to Narnia. Accompanied by their cousin Eustace, they meet up with Prince Caspian on a trip across the sea. Aboard the royal ship The Dawn Treader, they encounter dragons, dwarves, merfolk, and a band of lost warriors before reaching the edge of the world.
In the enchanted land of Narnia, Edmund and Lucy join King Caspian on a sworn mission to find the seven lost Lords of Narnia. So begins a perilous new quest that takes them to the farthest edge of the Eastern world on board the mighty Dawn Treader. Sailing uncharted seas, the old friends must survive a terrible storm, encounters with sea serpents, dragons, and invisible enemies to reach lands where magicians weave mysterious spells and nightmares come true. They need every ounce of courage and the help of the great lion Aslan to triumph in their most hazardous adventure of all.

Return to the magic and wonder of C.S. Lewis' beloved world - via the fantastic Narnian ship, the Dawn Treader. In this new installment of the blockbuster The Chronicles of Narnia motion picture franchise, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, along with their cousin Eustace and their royal friend King Caspian, find themselves swallowed into a painting and on to the Dawn Treader. As they embark on an incredible adventure of destiny and discovery, they confront obstacles beyond imagination.
'Enchanted merfolk'? That is interesting. What do you guys all think that means? I guess they could just be using the word enchanted in place of the word magical or they could actually mean enchanted. This film is going to have major changes. I don't really care what they say everything points to the fact that there are major changes.
I still will like the film though if the characters are right.
There are no clouds in the sky. There is only the open sun and the Lord watches.
I think the bit about the enchanted merfolk probably comes from one of the early scripts that got leaked. And like icarus said it was when they were still fiddling round with the story. So glad they ditched those scripts.
