The VDT is totally a family film, what was wrong in VDT that changed it from a family film?

For me there's a difference between a family film and a kids film. The way the dialouge was portrayed, the simplicity of the characters, the way it was rushed so thouroughly reminded me of a kid's film. I felt like it ostracized (if that's the right word) some of the older members of the audience, kind of like how many parents believed their kids were left out of the picture in PC. LWW was a family film because you could bring together the entire family, young and old, and enjoy it.

Hmmm. I think the movie makers should know that this story is not an action flick with big "epic" battles. It is a character driven story about overcoming adversity and maintaining belief when all evidence is to the contrary.
They need to know that this is not a romance between two hormonal teenagers--I don't care how "naturallly attracted to each other" you think they might be. Sexual tension is not an absolute prerequisite for a movie.

They need to know that these character have an enormous amount of physical obstacles and self doubt to overcome. This is what makes the story interesting. They do not need an extra "character arc". Jill does not need self esteem problems. Eustace does not need to whine that he didn't get to be king like his cousins. Nor does he need to have a power struggle with Puddleglum. The fact that the three characters bicker throughout the story does not need to be blown up into something its not.

And the speech Puddleglum gives to the Witch at the end is rated over and over by fans to be the best line in the entire series. Even above "There I have another name" Keep that in mind.

Haha, I thought that stunk for Eustace and Jill! But yes, please no more w/ the power issues! Edmund was MORE than enough...X(

Wow! Didn't know that. They'd better keep it, then.

^^ I only base that on the thread that is over in the book forum on "What is your favorite line". Its not a very big sample I know, but I thought it interesting that Puddleglum's speech is the most mentioned one in the thread.

It's interesting all the ideas here. I really do like the Silver Chair a lot. The visuals alone have the potential to be amazing. I definitely see them adding some action into this movie, though. My main thing is not to bring back the white witch. It made sense when Edmund was still involved. However, she should remain dead until the Magicians nephew. Also, as far as a big battle at the end, I think we were spared that by the poor gross that VDT is making at the box office. To do a huge battle would cost a lot, so I doubt they would add extra scenes that would grossly inflate a already strained budget. I do think this film does need some more action sequences to please the general audience. It wouldn't be difficult. Have the giants who are throwing the boulders actually be chasing the kids, making for a cool chase scene. Also a small fight when they are captured in the underworld. Then, off course stretch out the fight, a little, with the Lady Of the Green Girdle at the end. Nothing really hugely different from the book, but enough to keep people interested who are not fans of the book.
