I made all my points about age above and I stand by them. It wouldn't make sense to include a time in the book if the time were false.
At any rate, not to sound like a mod because I'm not one, this thread is about what we NEED to see in The Silver Chair. Unless we NEED to see Rilian be twenty or something like that then age is kind of off topic.
Love you guys
I don't need Caspian to be in his 70s or 80s. I am quite content to see him as a man in his later 60s who has spent many years in grief for his wife and son. I see it as somewhat similar to LOTR's King Theoden of Rohan who became old before his time (but was brought back to use his strength and lead his people again).
Earlier generations in our world didn't live so long, and certainly could be elderly in their 60s. Our idea of age has changed a lot, and we now expect people in their early 60s to be healthy and active. Lewis was an old man by 60.
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
Rilian would be in his thirties or forties by the time he is found, and isn't the teenager some would envision. Being disenchanted doesn't add to one's youthfulness, either.
I think it would be best that the Lady of the Green Kirtle and Rillian are young and good looking. Think about the teenage fans!
I don't think attracting teenage fans should be an objective. Think about the books. Generally speaking, kids and adults like the books, but teenagers just aren't interested. Obviously there are exceptions, just look at the majority of NarniaWeb- myself included, but I don't think they should bend over just to appease a demograph that just isn't interested.
This isn't by any means all I want the film-makers to be reminded of, but here are a few off the top of my head:
1. Jillstace would do nothing beneficial to the story... instead of awkwardness. Just don't do it.
2. Don't bring the White Witch back. The Silver Chair has a villain who is just as interesting, maybe more interesting, as her. Move on.
3. Don't make the Lady of the Green Kirtle seductive or dangerous-looking, maybe, until the very end when she turns into the serpent. She should look innocent, like someone you can trust.
4. I know this is a lot to ask, but I'd love Puddleglum's speech at the end ("One word, ma'am...") to be verbatim in the movie. Or, at least, very close. That scene is very personal to me and, I'm sure, a number of other Narnia fans. I believe it to be my favourite scene, or at least dialouge, of the entire series.
5. Play off the humour in the book. There is plenty of humour in this book that almost has me on the floor laughing.
That's all I can think of right now.

A very good observation. The Twilight crowd isn't going to be interested. The Harry Potter crowd is generally unkind to Narnia (despite the huge influence of Lewis on Rowling).

I don't think the filmakers should try to go out of their way to cater to teenagers, but it wouldnt kill them to cast someone really good looking for the Lady of the Green Kirtle. After all she is suppossed to be one of the best looking women in the world.
Winter Is Coming
Thank you, C.S. Sibelius.
Fair enough, Josh. They should cast someone beautiful because it fits her character, but please not Megan Fox.

I couldn't agree more!
2. As is obvious to pretty much everyone on here, the WW must NOT appear in this movie at all. We've already seen her too often, let's let dead witches lie now. Please.
3. You don't need to add additional motives for the quest, or any extra encounters with LotG.
4. Also, don't add any battle/fight scenes. We'll have some action scenes with a large Snake at the end, and possibly a tiny bit of a scuffle with the enchanted Rillian. But please nothing involving giants, dragons, or underground monsters! And especially no Narnians vs. Underearthmen battle at the end!
If you stick close (No one expects perfection!) to the original story you can't mess up!
5. Oh. And I know this isn't true to the book, but could we please have Jill in a Narnian dress for the first part of the adventure? (Until they reach Harfang) *Ducks various produce* Or at least for a couple scenes at the beginning/end.

No WW, no epic battles and no "Unfathomable Fates".

Actually I would like it if they added a scuffle or two with giants, it would add a bit more fun to the story. It does work fine for a book but I think the story will need a little bit more action.(Emphasis on a LITTLE bit)
And no character flipflops or unneeded romances!
And make the world of Narnia feel BIG not necessarily epic, but big- it is a world afterall.

re: aragorn2........
I really don't want any added action. I think if you play your movie right, the action scenes you DO have will be that much more significant and exciting (if done right as well).
Sometimes less is more.
And no character flipflops or unneeded romances!
That's for sure!

Interesting distinction. I would have put it in reverse, actually. Narnia is described as a small country, but it is very "epic" (if we define epic as vivid and full of chivalry). However, there is indeed a whole world to Aslan's creation. But as for bigness, I agree. Ettinsmoor (which basically means Giant's Moor!), and the Ruinous City should be big!

Indeed, Ettinsmoor should be big. I meant the world not the country, but the "planet" if you can call it that.

Woah, this is my first post ever... not exactly sure how this works... Anyways, I pretty much agree with what's been said about the concepts of SC
I think that Rilian's character should be like a good optical illusion where you see one picture as your thought process is going, but as soon as someone points out that there's something else there, you can see it and then be able to go back and forth between comparing the images

hmmm... lots of people who I've talked to about narnia, are just in general fans of "fantasy" books like Harry Potter/Narnia/Lord of the Rings/Percy Jackson/Golden Compas/ect... maybe they're just different groups of teens?
but at the the same time, i agree that they shouldn't try to please just one group

The filmakers need to cast someone for LOTGK who looks like a possible Morticia Adams. Of course, they can't use the actual actresses who played her, but someone who looks like them.

Marticia adams? I think she looks a little too dead and a little too goth for the Lady of the Green Kirtle.
The LotGK is supposed to be beautiful and friendly to the travellers, not creepy. It was mentioned earlier that she is an enchantress, therefore I think that should make her inviting.
Someone mentioned earlier in this post that they wanted puddleglum to be CGI. I REALLY hope that he is NOT CGI, especially since fox has taken over the franchise and from what I have seen of their CGI efforts are sub-par. CGI is inevitable in a fantasy franchise, but I would that they use as many costumes as possible and just use CGI to enhance in the SC.
Examples of poor CGI in VDT clips: Eustace as a Dragon and the Minotar on the ship. Hopefully it looks better on the big screen and in 3D.
I am not holding my breath for a faithful SC adaption. From the interviews i have read I beleive that they are trying to merge VDT and SC as much as they can with this Green Mist thing.....lame.
Hopefully SC is closer to the book than VDT......but then again it would seem that you can't get much further. lol.
At least we dont' have a Percy Jackson situation on our hands where the book and the movie are almost completely unrelated. That adaption shocked me.
outlier, Welcome to narniaweb
I don't want any unesscary romances, although I am not hopeful that they will avoid it completely. As well, please, if you want to put a battle in, make sure it does not detract from the plot. Please.
Adeona, Even if Jill is not in a dress in Narnia, I hope she gets to take one home at the end (as she did in the book.) I mean, I will not be mouring if they cut it, but it would be a nice detail.
