But I don't think you could really call the Jadis that's running around London in MN cold. She's extremely passionate, yelling threats and lashing out violently. I honestly wouldn't have a problem with a different actress for MN because of this. If I remember right, Jadis doesn't even look the same in MN as she does in LWW.
No, I think you are right. Tilda Swinton has her own way of looking at things, and it owes a lot to her background. She projects a somewhat ladylike persona, and that is to be expected when she has British upper class pretensions. Whereas the Jadis of Magician's Nephew is anything but a lady. And it shows.
I agree that the Jadis of LWW and PC looks a lot different from the Jadis of MN. Looking at Pauline Baynes' illustrations, MN's depictions of Jadis look positively summery compared with the wintry depictions in LWW or even PC. Jadis even wears bare arms. Which is why Aunt Letitia is less than impressed by her.
I don'tunderstand wht you guys think Tilda can't effectively play Jadis. She can definitely run around London yelling and "lashing out violently". She has bare arms on all of her dresses in LWW, waggawerewolf27. If you think she really looks "lady-like" I suggest you watch the sacrifice of Aslan one more time, and note the cold murder in Tilda's eyes and the terror she projects in her voice. I think that Tilda Swinton is perfectly capable of playing Jadis and I hope to see her in MN.
I saw the movie....and was disappointed
Sorry, I didn't get to finish the previous post properly before it was posted. In Pauline Baynes' MN illustrations Jadis at Charn, in London and in Narnia wore a patterned dress but in LWW Pauline Baynes depicted her as wearing long sleeves and plain white cold weather gear. Edwardian women like Aunt Letitia generally didn't wear bare arms except for evening wear, and would certainly see book Jadis as a brazen hussy, for that reason alone.
By ladylike, I meant that Tilda's Jadis in LWW and PC is about cold control, in contrast to Jadis' behaviour in MN, something Bookwyrm is also pointing out. You don't laugh at a lady, like the Edwardian crowd did to Jadis in MN, and ladies don't brawl in public, get visibly enraged or use strong language whatever else they did. For an example of what I mean, see if you can get a copy of My Fair Lady, which gives a good idea of how a lady was expected to behave in those days.
Yes, Tilda as Jadis is murderous and projects it, but in LWW and PC, she is icy, haughty, power hungry and manipulative, not lawlessly running around, throwing tantrums and assuming she is entitled to things she isn't. This is also in contrast to Charn where Jadis expected her word was law - literally, once she used the deplorable word. In London, the attitudes Jadis displays are quite out of place and almost comical, however terrifying and dangerous she is.
I agree it would be nice if Tilda Swinson came back, but I wouldn't bank on it. As far as I've found out, there is good reason to believe at this stage that she won't, and so it is pointless to have MN done earlier than it could be in the faint hope she might return.
Just here to say that I voted A Horse and His Boy because it is my favorite! Plus I want to see who will play Aravis.....

A_Narnian_Ship, if you'll read the links and quotes wagga provided, Tilda Swinton made it very plain what her view of Jadis is. It doesn't sound like she's even considered the difference in Jadis' character in MN. Jadis is nothing like her LWW persona in MN and is essentially the complete opposite of the character Ms. Swinton describes. Maybe she could pull it off, but it depends on how willing she is to adapt her ideas.
Bookwyrm, I'm fairly certain that Tilda Swinton did read MN, and based her interpretation of Jadis on what she ended up becoming, in LWW, then in a PC reprise which highlights the manipulative side Jadis first demonstrates when she tempts Digory in the garden at the top of the mountain, where she has stolen the fruit for herself. Jadis got endless life, sort of frozen in infinity. And Tilda saw her as basically inhuman.
I think that whichever actress gets the Jadis role in MN, whether Tilda Swinton returns or someone else is selected, would find it an extremely challenging role. Jadis is seen in four completely different ways in MN, firstly as the arrogant, fratricidal queen who felt she had a right to commandeer everything in Charn, as its ruler, even though she massacred it in the process. In the World between the Woods, Jadis is ill, not herself at all. And do you know, I can't wait to see that particular wood, and what the filmmakers could make of it and the Garden on the Mountain.
In London, some of her power is lost, which enrages her. The 'deplorable word' doesn't kill, but is merely considered 'strong language', whilst Jadis' demands for transport and jewellery are not met to her satisfaction. Furthermore, although she remains terrifyingly strong, and just as deadly, she is considered by everyone except Uncle Andrew as a common criminal. In Narnia, Jadis changes again. There are restrictions on her which she brought upon herself. And she knows it.
The Jadis we see in LWW and PC is the final result: the inhuman, non-human tyrant who knows she has no right to where she is, but who rules it anyway, without understanding that the power of love, creation, forgiveness and sacrifice is always going to be stronger than law and retribution. She can turn the creatures of Narnia to stone, but it is Aslan who can restore them to life.

A few others have also, though SC remains the hot favourite. And yes, it should be done soon, if it is done at all. By the time SC gets finished, Anna Popplewell, Skander Keynes and even Georgie Henley would be exactly the right ages to play their parts in HHB, as grown ups. And if you need MN to explain LB, and Professor Digory's and Polly Plummer's place in it, you also need HHB to explain why Calormen would be the final undoing of Narnia in LB, not the White Witch.
Mod Note: Please note that this thread is for discussing which film should be made after Voyage of the Dawn Treader NOT whether Tilda will return to play Jadis in MN. If you wish to discuss that further you can feel free to start a separate topic on it. Thanks and happy posting!

I've of two minds here. The rational side of me prefers that SC come next. It continues the publication-order of the films already made, and continues Eustace's adventures in Narnia.
But HHB is my favorite Narnia book, and so I'd love to see it on the big screen.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
After VotDT they need to film SC (Will Poulter is growing up).
After that they should film The Horse and His Boy and The Last Battle at the same time. They would release HaHB first.
I say film them at the same time because it would be convienient for Georgie, Will, Skandar, and Anna to play their roles in both movies. And seeing that the Calormen's are the same villains of both films, they could use the same armor and some of the same sets for the movies.
In addition, it keeps the actress playing Jill and Will Poulter from aging too much by the time of The Last Battle.
As for the Magician's Nephew, I can see it coming out anytime after SC. They could release it before The Last Battle (so the audience would know who Polly is), or they could release it after The Last Battle in a prequel format.
Winter Is Coming
^ But if they're filming LB and HHB at the same time, how or when would they have time to film MN to release it before LB? Because MN most certainly needs to be released before LB otherwise most people won't understand the end in the garden and how digory and polly acually came to Narnia, etc.
I saw the movie....and was disappointed
^^ film HHB and LB at the same time? very unlikely.....
