Perhaps the Sherwood people (Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Fireproof, Courageous) could have a go at it. No doubt they'd get the theological part right.

Tim Burton Haha, I have no idea.
A part of me is really curious to see what he would do with Silver Chair, actually.
I personally think that different directors would work for different books. Adamson is my top pick for HHB, I think that would be right up his alley. I don't think he would fit for the other remaining books, though.
I think that a couple of directors collaborating on the next Narnia would be a great idea. I just don't know which ones! It might indeed be nice if Stephen Spielberg had at least a little to do with it.

AROOOOOOO!!!
Agree with Martin Scorsese (because of Hugo)
Agree with Ron Howard...he has done some great shots in the past...A Beautiful Mind comes to mind.
Someone maybe unknown that had appreciation for the material would be good.

Would Joss Whedon ever direct a fantasy movie? He certainly did a very good job on The Avengers, and is loved for his work on a variety of other shows as well.
Or what about some BBC directors, rather than someone from the US?

Gore Verbinski. He Directed all of the PotC films (except for the most recent one) and did a pretty darn good job with them all. He's a got a real good feel for fantasy.
I'd also be real interested in a Dean Deblois/Chris Sanders team. They usually work together on animated projects, together these guys have done some serious works and they know how children think and feel, I'd love to see them take a whack at it.

Ooh, great idea! I second this suggestion. He did a good job on the movie Mousehunt as well.

With not knowing how much of a budget any future Narnia film has, I'm not sure if any big name directors would be attached to it.
Sorry, but I don't think Tim Burton would be too good of a choice. I didn't really like his take on Alice in Wonderland, and I'd express concern as to what would happen.
Maybe somebody completely new and unheard of will step up? Gary Ross wasn't new to directing when he was chosen to direct The Hunger Games, but not too well know outside of his work from Seabiscut, for example.

Tim Burton can make some great movies. But I agree. He definitely does not have that Narnia style. His style is much more like a dark and twisted version of Dr. Seuss. Not at all right for the atmosphere of happy Narnia. (Although, I'll admit, seeing his take on Underland would have been cool. )
A new director might be a good idea, but it's also a bit scary, since we don't know what kind of job they'll do.
On the subject of Gary Ross, do you think he'd be good at directing a Narnia movie?

Tim Burton... it's hard to believe this is the guy who went to same school with some of the Pixarians. I personally would not look forward to that... and considering that The Silver Chair is one of my favourites, that would probably ruin it for me... to put it shortly.
Like some Narniawebbers, I have lost interest in the Narnia films' progression. If there's news that there's going to be a movie, yeah, I'll be excited until we get some teasers and see how it is and then I'd move on from then. But now, I just don't know.
I'm going to say that I think an independent and skilled director should direct it... I don't doubt there are many great famous directors, but my knowledge of them is limited. I think it would be nice to see a fresh take on the film.

Everyone says that the person who makes the Narnia films should be an avid Narnia fan. But that doesn't seem to come up much when we discuss who should direct it. Almost like they're separate issues. Maybe we should take that into consideration.
Are there any directors out there who are self-proclaimed Narnia fans?
~Riella
Personally, I think Fran Walsh would be a very interesting choice for Narnia. She's got a good grip on the more cerebral, low-key aspects of fantasy, which would be a nice change from Walden's films. I also think it matches well with Narnia.
Joss Whedon... I don't know. He's good, yes, but he'd only be good if he was a fan, and I'm not sure where he stands with Narnia. If he is a fan... well. Sign me up.
In regards to Tim Burton, no. Please no. I may have to boycott the fandom if that were to happen (not literally... but it'd be a close call).
I'm a fan of Joe Johnston, he's made some good movies and some not so good ones. For example, he made Captain American, The Young Indiana Jones Series and The Pagemaster and Hidalgo. I think that he'd do really good as a Narnia director.
If you ain't first, you're last.
Johnston did a really good job with the first half of Captain America especially, and hey, this means he's already worked with a 1940s film. Hidalgo was pretty good as well... hm.
Mmm, what about Ridley Scott? I feel that he'd do a pretty good Narnia, he's made a ton of fantasy films, Robin Hood, The Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven. Basically anything involving bows or swords.
