[Closed] What did you ultimately think of the 7 Swords/Green Mist?

I voted "don't care" because ultimately, I walked out of the theater thinking that the SS plot had very little effect whatsoever on the film. The scenes that stand out for me are the ones dealing with the characters. Also, the SS plot doesn't make much sense if you think about it overly much, so I try not to lol. I can pretty much ignore it, it didn't bother me half as much as I feared. :)

Edit: On another note, it was the mist that was the problem, as several people have said. I think there was no need to add the mist to tie the story together. The thing that ties the story together is having to look for the lost lords. Getting each of their swords is like a visual token, "Ok, we've found that one," to help the audience move it along. That's fine, but I wish they hadn't swept by the lords and just gravitated towards the swords. Nixing the stupid mist would've fixed that.

I really didn't mind the Seven-swords they didn't ruin the movie for me but I just don't understand how the lords got them from Aslan :- :- :-

...I just don't understand how the lords got them from Aslan :-

The swords were given from Aslan to King Caspian, he in turn entrusted them to the seven lords. :)

No, Lord Bern said that they had come from the golden age. And besides the Temarines didn't believe in Aslan.

Huh... considering there was no "it was bad, but in a way that made it tons of fun to snark at" option, I actually voted for the first option, as it pretty nicely sums up my feelings of, er, joyous sarcasm towards the whole plot.

I mean, it was pretty much pulled straight out of a video game. Collect the trinkets, gather party members, save people, and fight a final boss.

It was a great plot, but not on its own merits, but rather, how ridiculous the whole thing was.

The seven swords/GM got in the way of the more compelling stories going on.

The GM poisoned otherwise fairly well-adapted scenes and looked bizarre attacking Eustace at the end.

The Dark Island was ludicrous (except for the Sea Serpent! :-o ). The WW appeared one time too many.

I agree with the NarniaWebbers (first Gymfan) who feel the whole thing would have been more plausible if the LotGK had been left in the story.

And finally, I feel very lied to. We were told

"Really deeply sorry for any disquiet or emotional discomfort that this occurrence may have brought about and... are working to try to prevent this sort of thing from ever happening again. .... These pages were indeed illicitly released, though not, we think from any malice on the part of any member of our team. ... The pages were from a very early experimental draft which should in fact never have been seen by anyone outside of a very small group of Producers."

That is regarding the Leaked Script.
HOW IS THAT TRUE?!?!

Very in line with Fox's marketing schemes, I think.

I think that the seven swords were totally extra! A complete departure from the book! And the GM was like whatever X(

I was fine with the seven swords but the greenmist was very original. Sounded too much like potc.

It was bad. Very bad. Extra. Uneeded. I just stuck my fingers in my ears whenever they came up. It was like, "NOOOOO!!!!"

The seven swords wasn't that bad for me. I mean it was very like a video game, but still it felt like it was part of another story that we didn't know. It seems as if there were these seven swords that Aslan gave to the people of Narnia back in the golden age and that were then entrusted to these seven lords just for this purpose. Just for the purpose so that in the moment that they were needed they would be collected and that they would be able to give power to Rhindon which would be used in that moment to destroy the sea serpent and the green mist.

Is it very contrived? Yes, but not as bad as i thought. To me it felt like there was another story there that was not told, but that still Aslan had a plan that he created these sister swords to Rhindon that would be passed down to these seven lords who would then carry them across the sea so that in the moment they were needed they could be there to give Rhindon the power it needed to kill the sea serpent.

That was just my initial impression. I do need to see the film again. I will most likely go again today.

I just got to see it last night! I am not quite sure what to think of it.
The Seven Swords Plot was interesting, although I wish the movie was closer to the book.
I think the entire voyage just went by to fast. The whole book is a lot to put in to a movie, but I wish the movie was a little longer.
Although I like it a lot better then Prince Caspian.
I never really cared that much for the movie Prince Caspian. The book was pretty good.

I might have liked the 7 swords plot better if it was explained why they need it. However the Green Mist was soooooooooooo annoying. I really, really hated it. I just couldn't take it the first time I saw it on screen, it looked so bad. X( 8-|

I voted for Good Addition. Does not detract in any way. Makes sense.

So if the Dark Island was around and dangerous back during the Golden Age, why didn't Aslan have the Pevensies destroy it? Where were these special swords hanging out for over a millenia? If the swords were so special and magic, why did Lord Bern keep his with him when he knew the other lords were going off to kill the Dark Island? Why did the other lords let him keep the sword when they knew they needed it to kill the island?

As far as I can tell, the only explanation for all of these questions is that Movie!Aslan is an idiot who thinks that Lucy learning to deal with her body issues, Caspian getting over his daddy issues, Edmund getting over his crush on the WW, and Eustace not being a twit anymore is worth sending the lords off to kill a monster without briefing them and allowing the island to wander around tempting and eating people for who knows how many millenia.
