I loved it!!!

"Lucy, have you seen this ship before?"
"Yes! It's very Narnian-looking, isn't it?"

I really liked it It was fun and light-hearted.

The only thing I didn't get was the line at the end: "You've gotten stronger my friend." "It seems I have." ...eh? Was there a purpose for those really awkward lines?

The only explanation I can think of is that they had a duel before (in PC) which we haven't seen on-screen. Since there was so much tension between Peter and Caspian in PC, the filmmakers focused not so much on the Edmund-Caspian realtionship as on the Peter-Caspian relationship. I can't even think of a single scene where Edmund and Caspian had a conversation... Maybe they had some kind of a realtionship that we didn't see on-screen and maybe they had a duel ;)

Personally, I really liked the Edmund and Caspian sparring scene because it shows the friendly relation between the two of them at the beginning of VDT without having a (cheesy) dialogue scene. In addition, the sparring scene shows that Edmund is on a level with Caspian and not inferior. I think this fact makes the Deathwater scene and the tension between Ed and Caspain even more interesting. So, I don't think that the sparring scene is unnecessary. It is entertaining and it provides a basis for the development of their relationship.

The actual fighting scene was done very well. It looked quite natural and a normal thing for guys to do. The cheesy lines after it were extra. But one thing I don't understand is that it shows Ed and Caspian as great friends, which is odd because in PC they hardly look at each other much less talk to each other.

Good point. In PC (the movie), it was Ed who always helped Peter and was loyal to him. Since Peter didn't really accept Caspian and Edmund always supported Peter, it would rather make sense the other way around. Even if we didn't see a relation between Caspian and Ed, it would rather be a "negative realtionship" than a friendship, wouldn't it?

I kind of like the scene. A rare moment in the film where the we actually STOP. We're just being with the characters, that's all.

The dialogue at the end was pretty darn cheesy though. "You've grown stronger my friend." "Seems I have." I don't know if it was the script or the delivery, but I didn't buy it.

Exactly. It seemed strange to see them acting so brotherly right off the bat. The characterization in this film is pretty consistently awful.
