[Closed] What are they doing now?

We're told VDT filming in Australia will halt sometime during November. After the initial filming is finished, what will the moviemakers be up to?

I imagine they have a veritable mountain of work to do in the editing and SFX departments. Compared to LWW and PC, VDT seems to have the largest amount of special effects.
They have to construct Eustace-as-a-dragon, the Dufflepuds, the things changing to gold at Deathwater, the creation of Dark Island, the birds fluttering around Ramandu, the mermen, Aslan, Coriakin's house, etc.
Plus they have to get the foley and the actors' voice-overs together, and decide what lighting filters to use besides just simple editing and deciding what scenes to cut and keep.

My question is: Will all this really take a full year? Could they do it in less time?

Probably could take less time. But I think that since there is a firm release date, Dec. 10th of 2010, they can take the time to do the best job possible.

Taking the time to do it right is what I would prefer be done to rushing it a bit just because they can. Sail on VDT! :)

I don't think it will take that long.....will it? I think they are just pulling our leg and dragging it out so that we have to wait longer - which would stink, but oh well, at least we will see it eventually! I can't wait.....! :D

With all the complaints about PC not coming out at Christmas and therefore not doing as well as hoped at the box office, I'm a bit surprised to see all of the wishes of moving the release date up. Where would they move it to? Summer is pretty much taken up and November has Harry Potter...

I think GlimGlum is right on. Yes, they COULD get the movie done sooner if they had to, but the release date is what everyone (production and fans alike) wanted.

And just as a side note, I DO NOT KNOW THIS FOR SURE, but I've been under the impression most of the crew will be taking December off as a break for Christmas and then post-production will really get underway in January. Like I said, I don't know that, but that's the impression I've been getting.

I think they will probably do it in less time, because they usually plan the date a little more than expected just in case for emergencies and unexpected weather.

I think people are upset because its been almost two years since PC came out and VotDT was suppossed to originally be released months ago and it will be OVER a year before it is released. Meanwhile, since PC has been released, two Twilight films have come out, another Harry Potter film came out, and the rest are being filmed back to back, and several sequels to movies that came out around PC's release date (Iron Man 2 included) are already in post production.

Well, you can't release a film if it has not been made! ;)

I know from other films that the completion date has to be several weeks before opening, because it has to be copied and distributed etc.

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

The production schedule for VDT is similar to that of LWW, with filming ending around November, 1+ year of post-production, and release the following December. Adamson and Mark Johnson commented that they worked on LWW until close to the release date in December 2005--it is not like the film was finished early.

VDT should finish filming by the end of this month, right? That gives the special effects houses a good year to work on post-production. We know the "end sequence" was filmed a few weeks ago, and I would guess that is already being worked on. It takes a lot of hours to render a photo-real lion.

All said, better to take some time and get it right than rush though VFX and end up with a sloppy film. Lets not forget there is other work to do, too -- the trailers, marketing, score/soundtrack, etc.

And the whinging begins. /:) Josh, are you really wanting the Narnia movies to be the same quality as the Twilight movies? Really? :-s LWW came out December of 2005. PC came out in May 2008. The wait for VDT isn't that much longer. And are you forgetting that Disney dropped the franchise? That surely caused some delay.

VDT had problems during the pre-production. The locations for filming were constantly being changed, Disney dropped out, I think an early script was leaked, and so on. Plus, while it was supposed to come out in May of 2009, they changed the schedule to make it easier on the young actors' challenging schedules or some such thing. And then, I imagine that the year-long post-production is probably because of there being a lot of CGI effects that have to get added.

Last week on NW, wasn't the filming end date given as Nov 20, this Friday? I discovered today that it's been moved to next Friday, Nov 27. Why the change? :-

Like most of the rest of you, I'd rather have an excellent movie premiering at a timely season as one that premieres earlier and doesn't do as well or isn't as well made. ;)

Think about it: people want Jesus to come back and the sooner the better. Why is He delaying? So more people can repent and turn to Jesus before it's too late! [See 2 Peter 3:9.] Also, He's preparing a place for us in heaven. When it's perfect, when it's time, then Jesus will return. [See John 14:2-3.] In the meantime, let's pray and witness! :)

Josh, Though I must agree I wouldn't mind if VOTD came out sooner, I can't say I could complain too much. I believe that the reason why VOTD is taking so long to released is because it's a big movie. PLUS the poeple actually take there time and make sure EVERYTHING is in order. It also gives them time, for posters and teaser trailers. I think the have a legit. reason for taking so long. PLus winter, is a good time...even though...VOTD is a summmer type movie! ;)

Because I put the 20th up the first time we heard Ernie Malik say that it was three weeks til filming wrapped. And then like a week later they were still saying it was three weeks til filming wrapped.... :)) Anyways, that date isn't set, it's an estimate. I don't know the exact time filming wraps up. I should probably add that it's an estimate on the calendar so as not to confuse people.

I think one of the actors said he/she would be glad to be home for Christmas, right?

You know, I don't necessarily want VDT to come out sooner. I'd much rather that the movie be a better quality with an optimum release date than be so-so and have to compete with summer blockbusters. I'm just wondering why they're taking so long and started this thread for speculation. :)
