I'm sorry, but I can't really see how BBC can win this one :P

I left the BBC VotDT about a third of the way in. If that. I've seen Walden's twice now and love it.

Detest the cliche, cheesy additions, but it was unbelievably gorgeous, the majority of acting/lines were all highly believable, and though they were different from the books, the character arcs were quite good.

The BBC's would be good just listening to. Yes it was closer to the books and had more character backgrounds. But the budget was too small for them to make it look real and it's a distraction.

This is why it's always going to be unfair to compare BBC to Walden. Yes, BBC didn't have the funding because they were producing a made for television mini-series over 20 years ago. I think it's impressive what BBC accomplished with such a limited budget and the fact that they made it all the way to SC is notable, something that Walden may not even get a chance to do.

For the most part, the BBC actors weren't great but at least they were speaking what Lewis actually wrote on the pages. Does anyone else get annoyed at how modernized and cheesy some of this new dialogue sounds in the Walden versions? I'm not asking for word-for-word adaptations, but some of it is just lazy and breaks the illusion of the time period.

Peter: I hunch.
Mary Jane: Don't.

I did notice words that Narnians said that they would not have said unless they knew modern vocabulary.

"Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed."- CS Lewis

I just saw the Dragon Revelation scene in the BBC VDT tonight and I actually prefer how the BBC version stuck close to the book and showed Eustace-Dragon actually enjoying flying around and helping the crew, etc. That was better than the new movie. But it did not have any Reep and Eustace bonding scenes as they did in the new movie, which I love.

Each production has it plusses and minuses. I appreciate the BBC version for leaving a lot more of Lewis' text in but I actually prefer the Fox movie of VDT because of the casting and the beautiful cinematography/visual effects (sea of lilies and the large wave of water in the beach scene). And the new movie Reepicheep wasn't Warwick Davis in a fuzzy mouse suit (a huge improvement).

The Beeb version also had more of the feel of what a sea voyage was like whereas the movie didn't have enough of the details of life at sea.

I'm just still bemoaning the fact that the new movie could have been a LOT better than it was. All the elements for greatness were there, they just didn't develop them. Makes me really sad. :((

There is a broader and extremely similar topic to this one here, so I'm going to go ahead and close this thread. :)
