I seriously doubt this movie would be 145 minutes long. Remember they filmed like a month less than Prince Caspian. 10-15 minutes extra maximum if you ask me.
Since this is Fox highest grossing film (Domestic and Worldwide) of 2010 i hope they make work of an extended edition.
Remember they filmed like a month less than Prince Caspian.
Actually, when they filmed VDT, one of the methods Apted used for controlling the budget, was to do each scene in no more than two takes. Adamson, on the other hand, did countless takes for almost every scene, because, at the time, they weren't too worried about the budget, and he wanted to have a variety of options in putting together the finished product. So it is possible that they filmed VDT with a long running time, but in a shorter production phase.
We still don't know the running time or the US release date, but I think speculation about what's on the DVD and the possibility of its being an extended edition is now over. From our report on Aslan's Country:
1. UK will get it April 18, Europe unknown. But Narnia fans in these locations can now pre-order it online at Amazon.
2. We know what the special features are!
Deleted Scenes (The Kids … In Narnia, Eustace II, Mutiny, Caspian Doubt) 5:35 min.
Music Video: There’s A Place For Us (By Carrie Underwood) 0:59 min.
VFX Reel – With Optional Commentary By M. progression Apted And Mark … .. 12:58 min.
Good Vs. Evil: Battle On The Sea 10:53 min.
Portal To Narnia: A Painting Comes To Life 07:20 min.
And just now, thanks to MundoNarnia, I discovered that Fox Brazil is releasing the DVD and Blu-Ray on March 30. What's odd is that the cover is totally different from what's on Amazon for UK and Europe (Germany). http://www.foxfilm.com.br/
Someone at AC told me a press release from Fox on the DVD/Blu-Ray [for the US] is coming in the next week or two....
I definitely like the look of the Brazilian DVD cover more than the UK one. But what does AslansCountry's report have to do with there being an extended edition? Am i not reading something correctly?

Extended editions are not always released at the same time as the regular DVD... Didn't the LWW Extended Edition come out almost a year later?
your fellow Telmarine
Yeah it did. I hope they have Skandar, Georgie, and Will commentary on this release or I'll be majorly displeased. Hmmm Eustace II as a deleted scene sounds interesting.....
Interesting reading a related post at Aslan's Country that Fox is interviewing for an intern to help promote the DVD. Noticed one of the intern's tasks is to:
"Premium up-sell SKU Analysis (Triple Play, 2-pks, SE)"
That just hints of the possibility of a Special Edition to me....

I think the idea is that if they are showing the deleted scenes, then they probably aren't going to include them in an extended edition. What a shame.
On the other hand, I'm wondering about the accuracy of the report. "There's a place for us" is much longer than 59 seconds.
Also, perhaps the UK DVD will be different from the US one. And perhaps there'll be two different DVD releases in the US, like with Caspian.

First off, like CorazonBandido55 said, the LWW DVD came out in April 2006, and the Extended Edition was not released until December 2006, which put it exactly a year after the film's initial release in theaters (December 2005). Now i have no idea how Fox releases their Extended Editions for films, but it seems only right to me that if the VDT DVD will be released in April, we shouldnt expect an Extended Edition for the film until months after that. If you'd like my opinion, I would bet on a December 2011 release for the Extended Edition, if there is one at all.
Also, I will admit that seeing Deleted Scenes on the list of Special Features does hinder my faith in their being an Extended Edition release, but then again, the total time listed for all the deleted scenes is 5:35 minutes, while most Narniawebbers are under the impression that there is close to over 30 minutes of footage that was taken out. A few deleted scenes would not solve all the plot holes and gaps that were in this film (heck, i doubt an Extended Edition even would), but Fox would only benefit from having a second, extended release. I want to see the other 25 minutes! There is still hope!

I have now seen VotDT 4 times. for some reason, every time I see it, the movie seems longer! I love it!
but maybe it's just me.....

RE: VDT extended edition: If you look at the links I posted in the story, you'll notice the source of the rumor, this NW thread!
RE: DVD running time = c.113 minutes, which means no extended edition for now.
RE: special features: you're right. Carrie's music video is 3-4 minutes, not 1.

Though I'm skeptical of the odds of a special edition, even the LotR extended versions didn't come out immediately. It was a good six months, iirc.
LotR dvd releases were like this:
FotR theatrical August 2002 & extended November 2002
TTT theatrical August 2003 & extended November 2003
RotK theatrical May 2004 & extended December 2004
Of course, this is with an entirely different company, so there's no knowing when/if an extended edition will be released. Also, just because an extended cut is released, doesn't mean it will be a better film. RotK EE has lots of nice scenes added to it, but the theatrical version is an overall better film imo.

Indeed the biggest issue I had with the movie was how short it is. I had to watch the film two times to fully assimilate everything, because it was to fast. Everything was flying. With PC and LWW, I just had to watch them once to understand and get into the plot and my other viewing were just to capture the little details I didn't caught my first time, and mere viewing pleasure of the film. With VDT that was not the case, and I´m sure that they did cut a lot of scenes. Whether they release the extended version early this year or in December, I will still buy it as fast as possible. I'm really eager to see what have they cut. LWW had some pretty decent cut footage, specially in the battle. I have my fingers crossed that if they release and extended cut of the movie, they will expand the Magician's House scene and the scenes before they enter Narnia.
I'm pretty sure they've cut enough content to add at least a little bit of content to each scene in the film. I doubt that that will be possible, but if an extended version is released I hope that they have a hefty amount of significant content to show.

I'm one of those people who wants an EE, and since I haven't seen the movie yet, (don't hate, i'm in college with no car lol) I will wait for the dvd. That said I will be waiting for an EE to be releaced. If it indeed is. If nothing happens by Christmas then i'll get the dvd, (it'll be cheeper then too!) and with my luck just after that an EE will be releaced. All that said, I think they would profit greatly from a EE releace this fall/winter. Once the "normal" dvd sales start dropping off, bring out the EE and vamp up sales again. I just hope that is how it happens. Does anyone know how long or how often Fox does EE's?
