Wasnt there an interview a while back where it was thought that the movie would be 145 minutes long? I have a theory that this was the movie's original run time but Fox decided to chop the movie to trim the budget. I would love for there to be an extended version of this length.

Corazon, I hope that's true and that they bring back most (all?) of that 'lost' footage. The movie was barely 115mins long! It needs that 30mins extra to allow breathing space, fix up the editing and have the little character moments that seemed to (for the most part) be missing.

My biggest problem with the film was not the green mist, nor the lone islands, nor the undragoning of Eustace. All that is forgivable. My problem with the movie was that it was so short and fast paced that they didn't take any time to develop the plot from the book, nor the added plot of the film.
After seeing the film several times I'm convinced there is a shot of Ed being knocked out by the slave traders. Why else would Lucy be screaming and crying "Edmund!" Why else would Ed be waking up in the dungeon with Caspian asking if he is all right?
It is shots like these that make sense of the film and add character to the people on screen.
I would love a completed Extended edition of Voyage of the Dawn Treader. In fact, I think this movie demands it.

I agree about Ed being knocked out - I thought that too when seeing the dungeon scene. I think Edmund would probably keep fighting to get to Lucy until being knocked out.

I am of the opinion that there will be deleted scenes on the DVD, but I don't know if there will be an extended edition. There wasn't one for PC, and it made heaps more money than VoDT.
I am of the opinion that there is at least one deleted scene on Dragon Island, and we know there's a scene where Lucy gives Eustace some of her cordial. The new interview with Tony Nixon also mentions a lot of deleted shots/scenes.
I don't think the movie is popular enough for them to invest money in special effects for an extended edition. We'll probably get deleted scenes in the DVD, though.
Now one thing that I would love, for PC, is if they do a revised version where they put some of the charming character-development scenes back in, and trim down that narcolepsy-inducing duel + battle sequence. But, that's just my fantasy.

I too think that its unlikely that we will see a VDT extended edition DVD... although for arguments sake, this movie is very short and could really benefit from the extra footage. PC didnt have an extended edition, but didnt really need it.. it was long enough. LWW did have an extended edition, but didnt add any meaningful footage to the movie. Not like the wonderful LOTR extended editions.

Definitely! Not just short, but choppy, like they were conveying the story via telegram. There was more to be said. Also, I'm a Narnia-holic and I'll take any excuse to spend extra time in Narnia.
One thing just occurred to me. If it's true, what some people say, that they cut a lot of footage from the movie at the very last minute, that footage might already be fully developed, which means an extended edition might not be a considerable added expense, compared to a regular DVD. But how do we convince them to release it?
I would write the studio to request an extended edition. I don't think writing a letter hurts, even if they don't do anything with it, at least they know what the audience wants.

20th Century Fox seem to release Extended Edition DVDs for their movies more often than not - sometimes they are artistically justified, but more often than not they seem to do it because its an easy money-grab for the studio. Either way i'd say the odds would be in favour of an extended edition dvd for VDT, but is of course by no means assured.
Almost all the major the major 20th Century Fox movies released in 2010 received extended editions on DVD -
The A-Team: Extended Explosive Edition,
Knight and Day: Extended Edition,
Avatar: Extended Collectors Edition
Date Night: Extended Edition,
Wow, thanks for the encouragement icarus! If VDT can be Fox's first movie since Avatar to pass 100 mil, which seems very likely, then maybe an extended edition is possible!

That's a good point too! There's probably still some CGI, though... And I wonder about the score - would new pieces be needed for the new scenes?

I agree completely. Now that I think about it, I'm sure a lot of the cut footage is acutally mostly complete. We still have that shot of Reepicheep running up the mast in the trailer that I keep bringing up on another thread. That's completely (or almost completely) finished. Fox would do nothing but benefit from releasing an Extended Edition of VDT.

Now that y'all mention it.. maybe Fox deliberately made a short movie to be able to release an 'extended edition' after an initial DVD release. This would be a blunt, shameless attempt at a money grab, but if that what they feel that they need to do to fundraise for Silver Chair, then they can take advantage of me if they want

Considering what we've seen already in terms of Fox's marketing ethics, that would not surprise me, CorazonBandido. But as you say, as long as we get an Extended Edition and SC, I'll put up without a squeak. I sure hope things get a little cleaner for SC, though.
