[Closed] VDT's Short Running Time/ Possible Extended Edition

I've heard that the VDT is so short because Fox came in at the last minute and cut a lot out. I think the movie suffered because of this, though. There were so many scenes that I feel should have been so much longer, that weren't.

Do you think the movie should have been longer? Do you think a longer running time might have hurt the film (as in, younger children would get squirmy)?

I like longer movies because I have time to get invested in them, and I was honestly disappointed that VDT was so short.

For this reason, I really hope that there will be an Extended Edition of this movie released at some point soon. LWW was released in April on DVD and it's Extended Edition was released in December? Do you think something similar might occur with VDT as it will most likely be released on DVD in April?

I'm sure an extended wouldn't be too expensive. Especially Narrowhaven and the mutiny scene, wouldn't need a lot of CGI. And i read there were also a lot of scenes of daily life on board, would give the film more a sense of large scale. Cause now it seemed all islands were a day sailing apart.

That would be so awsome if they made a Extended audition! :-o
I always thought it would be interesting to see what they actually cut out of the movies. :- Especially PC.

I don't know it they'd do that in the end, but I like the idea. Maybe adding everything in that was tooken out in theaters for the DVD would make it a more enjoyable experience. So, I'm totally for Extended Edition VDT! :D ;)

I do not think it should have been longer. My attention span and my bladder are thanking whomever decided on the shorter length.

Having said that, I would not mind seeing an extended edition on DVD.

The only thing I wish they had included was Caspian and Lilliandil sailing back to Narnia together.

I fervently hope for an extended VoDT edition! The film indeed felt short, but fast-paced and, most of all, evenly paced in return. It couldn't have been made too long since younger kids would whine (I remember many kids getting restless at Pixar's Cars which lasts some time past 2 hours), and therefore I immensely strongly hope there will be an extended edition! It felt as if many scenes were taken out, and I can't help but hope it was, among other reasons, to release an extended edition!

I'm most looking forward to seeing daily life scenes, developing relationships between characters, I especially would be gleeful at more scenes between Caspian and Edmund, their brotherly bond of friendship was just as I imagined and hoped it would be, I love their banter and bond to death! :D Perhaps we might also see some sort of wedding or at least conclusion between Caspian and Lilliandil, since their thread seemed short, chopped and underdeveloped (the only thing kept strictly book-like, come to think of it ;)) )

I absolutely loved the film, am enraptured by it and adored it, and I would love to see even more of it. Ergo... I hope for an extended edition!!! :D

I've seen the movie 9 times!!! (PC)
I've seen the movie 7 times!!! (VoDT) And loved it!

Yeah I definitely feel that they need an extended edition. I'm sure they will include the deleted scenes in extra features on dvd. However i am not sure if they will finish the special effects. Thats kinda what i wanna see. I hope the undragoning scene is longer. That is the main scene i would have liked to be longer. I really hate Fox for coming in and cutting the movie if that is true.

I would love an extended version, but if we only get the deleted scenes on the behind the scenes portion of the DVD, that's fine with me too! :D

I'd liked an extended cut and would hope they could include it on the first DVD release and not have to have a separate extended cut release later (as I always hate spending money on a DVD release when the powers that be then choose to release a more extended cut in a later edition). Hope they have enough time to make a quality DVD release (great special features, commentaries, making-of featurettes, interviews, deleted scenes) for Easter without shortchanging the fans.

On the other hand, if they need more time to make a good enough extended release, then I'm okay with it separately coming out later in the year. I would just hope the first DVD release is as good as the one for LWW with the special features/extras.

There is apparently a 45 minute audio interview with the Editor of the movie online at the moment (link below). I haven't listened to it, because i haven't really got the time to listen to it, but if anyone does, i would be very interested to know if he provides any explanation as to why the film's editing is the way it is with regard to the short length and fast pace.

It didn't have a lot of specifics about the movie. It was more about the editing process in general and his techniques and views.

I'm not sure why the editing is so haphazard because he sounds like a really intelligent guy, who knows what he's talking about and he's had a lot of experience editing Michael Apted projects. He believes narrative and characters should trump visuals and he also preferred the 2D version to the 3D version.

I agree that some scenes should have been done longer like having Caspian and Drininan talk more to Lucy and Edmund about the voyage, find out more about Caspian and his father, more of Lucy and coughAslancough in the magicians house, and more of Rynelf and Lilliandil would have been cool.

I hope Dawn Treader brings in more bucks so we can get an extended edition.

I would gather that what Apted wanted as a cut that the studio would okay for screening (within alloted time constraints) probably governed what the editor did. An editor sounds like they are working at the mercy of the director/producers' ideas for the final screening cut of the film? My guess.
Maybe this editor should have written the script. ;)

Another thought, if they just add a bunch of scenes in to make the extended cut, it might be better but there's the scenes from the book they didn't even bother to film that I'm more sad about.
