So, VDT has already been released in several countries, and is releasing in the UK and the US today and tomorrow. I know I'm going to a midnight showing tonight, and I wanted to have a thread where we could talk about our first VDT movie experiences...

When did you go? Who did you go with? Audience reactions? Cool experiences? And whatever else relating to the story of the first time you saw The Voyage of the Dawn Treader! :D

I hope this is the right place to put such a thread, mods! I wasn't sure...

"Oh telescope, keep an eye on my only hope,
Lest I blink and be swept off the narrow road.
Hercules, you've got nothing to say to me,
'Cause you're not the blinding light that I need.
For He is the saving grace of the Galaxies."

I went a few hours ago, just got back.. afternoon showing..
The audience consisted of approx. 25 people in a 320-seats cinema.

Not a lot of cool experiences..although.. one person fell asleep twice next to me.. (don't know how that happened) and one person walked out during the seasnake part.. those things were strange..

But anyway, the two friends I went with, loved it and were discussing whether LWW or this one was the best.. And they loved Eustace and Reepicheep and were also sad during the saying goodbye-part..

Curious how the 2nd viewing will be on Saturday night.. hope more people!

I saw it last night it was amazing. I went with my two older sisters. One of them had to cover her eyes for sea serpent scene! It was so awesome.
We sat toward the front but when I looked behand me it seemed there were a lot of people and not a lot of talking. I thought the movie was really funny but the only time the rest of the crowd just seemed to burst with laughter was the infamous "no!" scene. I couldn't really gage the response but I think it went well :) I had a blast :D

I saw the movie on the first day it came out in Australia, in 3D, and for the very first showing, there were less than ten people there. I went with one of my best friends and we both thoroughly enjoyed the film. Of course, she didn't know the story, so I was quietly whispering hints in her ear.

The second time I went, on Tuesday, there were at least twenty people in there, and they were a much more involved lot than the last bunch. I saw it with my friend again, and we still loved it. Everyone laughed hard when Eustace fainted on the Dawn Treader, and in the first scene in the bedroom. They were a much better audience than the people who were there in the very first showing.

I may be going to see it in 2D soon, since the 2D only came out yesterday, and I am left wondering which version will be better.

God Bless and Merry Christmas,

I will reject your reality and substitute it with my own, because eternity is an awfully long time to be wrong.

I watched the 3D on Tuesday. There were quite a lot of people watching (mostly teens/young adults, some children and their parents) which is good since the ticket price was quite expensive. I went with a friend who's not a Narnia fan and she enjoyed it, even laughing out loud at some Eustace/dragon scenes. I'm going to watch the normal version with subtitle this Sunday to get better grasp of the story and the acting :D

I'll come back around 1:30. We're going to a midnight showing tonight. I'm trying to gauge how early I need to get there. It's too cold to overestimate waiting outside time. ;)

Can't wait!!!!!

I went with famiyl and a friend, into a cinema with about... 30 people? not veyr full :-
they weren't the most reactive, adn it was hard to gauge the response...but then again I wasn't really concentrating on that! ;)

but to compare, when I went again last night it was me+another friend, 2 couples, and a group of about 6 teenage girls. it was a really weird audience to see it with, because the couples were really involved in what was happening (surprisingly!) and laughed many times, especially at eustace. the teen girl were very badly mannered and kept getting up and talking really loud, when they saw the first lord one of them yelled out 'DUMBLEDORE' which I have to confess, will probably stay with me for future viewings of that scene :p

Grief for the movies made me abandon narniaweb...but I'm so glad to be back!
Many thanks to the wonderful Lady Eowyn for making my sig/av.

Just got back from the midnight showing! My entire family went with me, and there were, in addition to the seven of us, probably around 20/25 people in the theater. They were pretty responsive, laughing a good deal, especially at Eustace... and the 8-| "If it's a distraction for you, I can change forms..." bit. After the movie was over, one guy was like "WHOO!" and clapped. I think that's all I have to report!

There was only 10 people at my midnight screening. Thankfully, they were all attentive to the movie. Half stayed to watch the credits. I must say though, that watching so many spoiler videos lessened the impact of some scenes.. Most notably the end. I was in tears when I watched the end in a spoiler video here on NW a month ago, and so I wasn't moved as much since I had seen it several times already. The Susan/Lucy scene was new to me so that put a knot in my throat. Note to self.. Dont see so many spoiler videos if Silver Chair gets made.

My first showing was 8 days ago, and 3D, with about 15 in the audience.
Having seen so many spoilers didn't distract me, I loved almost every minute, although there were times I noticed myself noting when bits didn't follow the same sequence as in trailers - but who cares! as Georgie said in a LWW backgrounder :)

I found it cinematically wonderful, emotionally satisfying and a great adventure, with lots of well-placed humour and believable acting.

My second was five days ago, with a full theatre of free-ticket holders from the radio station promoting it. It was 2D, there was lots of buzz and enjoyment from the audience, and plenty of laughter and gasps etc.
I think I had tears in my eyes at least three times.

I saw it a third time in 3D yesterday, and found it just as engaging, and still had tears at the end. There were about 20 in the audience, mostly fairly quiet. Not many laughs even. We had 3 children in our party of 11, and they were somewhat scared of the sea serpent scene - the boy of 9 found it very scary.

Well done everyone!

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

First review (rough, quick): http://www.narniaweb.com/reviews/?id=26

I am heartbroken. This is pure cinematic awfulness.

I went in feeling pretty hopeful because of positive reviews. I could not believe my eyes. This is pure Hollywood commercialized nonsense.

When it was over, I literally put my head down and wept. I felt embarrassed to be sitting there wearing a Narnia sweatshirt. I felt betrayed by everyone at Walden Media. I felt empty.

When it was over, I saw a few girls who looked like fans (I dunno how, they just did) whispering to each other. I went over and asked them what they thought. No one liked it. But two of them had been to NarniaWeb before and even recognized by screenname so that was cool!

I thought it was great, personally I can't agree with glumPuddle in anything that he says, though I do respect his point of view. My midnight showing had around 30 people, and most stayed until the credits finished- no one does that unless they *enjoyed* the movie. :)

I can't wait until the next installment! (Hopefully it gets greenlit) :)

My first viewing was 2 nights ago at the Knoxville Premiere. I saw it with 8 other people - two of which were NarniaWebbers. The 12 theatres showing the film were packed. Even the front rows. I sat on the second row because by the time we got in from the press box, the theatre was nearly full. Oh, and I also interviewed Georgie and Skandar :D ! My interview with Georgie should be up on NarniaWeb soon! Skandar's interview was accidentally erased from my voice software! Very upset over that!!! :(

glumPuddle, I'm sorry, but you completely missed it. Sure, there were a few things that I felt could have been left out and the dialogue improved, but it honestly and truly captured the very essence of the book.

It is the BEST NARNIA FILM YET!

My full report on the Gala should be up on NarniaWeb in the near future.

The Silver Chair, you're next! (it has to be made now because of the AWESOME name-drop)

I met Georgie and Skandar AND saw the film in one evening.
