Andrew Adamson had a key role in the scripting process and it was his thorough knowledge of the books that made them so closely adapted to the books, Does he have any part in the VotDT script? does michael apted know narnia well lets hope so, cause them hiring so many writers kinda scares me
was it mainly adamson writing the script or was it Marcus and Mcfeely mostly?
I am going to have to disagree that PC was closely adapted to the books. I am glad that we have a new director and have a small amount of hope for VotDT because of that.

LWW was a very good adaptation, with exciting elements added.
PC was not closely adapted to the books. I think PC still caught the general air of the book, you know, the general themes and stuff....but it was not like the book!
On a different note, let's see...I know Adamson is still one of the producers for VoDT....but I don't know about the scripwriting.
Markus and McFeely were the main screenwriters of both LWW and PC. I guess Adamson had some part in that, but I'm not positive. The VDT script has gone through many hands: I think M & M worked on it, then it went to Steven Knight, and was then went through rewrites by Richard LaGravenese and Michael Petroni. I couldn't tell you how familiar they are with the story, but in order to write a screenplay adaptation they have to be pretty knowledgeable of not only plot and characters, but also themes and things of that nature.
It is not uncommon for movie scripts to pass through the hands of several writers. Off the top of my head, I know Watchmen and Terminator Salvation both went through several rounds of rewrites before the shooting script was completed. If anything, I would feel more confident in a script that had more collaboration in its writing.
I wouldn't have described Adamson as having a thorough knowledge of the books. He began writing a plan based on what he remembered from reading as a child!
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
I'm honestly hoping that VDT's script will be better because of this change. Andrew Adamson had special effects down, but I wasn't a big fan of scripts that he used.
Quod Erat Demonstrandum
I really like the scripts Andrew used. I like the adaptions that came from his "Remembering from child hood". They were fine to me. I'm willing to except pretty much any changes in the script!! I think that it would be nice if he stills has hands in the scrpit. But that's me.

Gosh, I hope not. The thought that Adamson might be controlling the script of my favorite Chronicle fills me with deep and abiding terror. Did he even re-read the books before he directed LWW and PC? All I ever heard was "Oh, this is how I remember it from reading the books when I was a kid."

I know! Rereading the books would have been the obvious first step, to me.
Otherwise, how do you know you aren't remembering things incorrectly? So, how long had it been since Mr. Adamson read the books at the point when he began directing?

while Andrew did an awesome job directing PC and LWW, and while I really enjoy PC and LWW (PC most of all), no one can honestly claim that either movie was TOTALLY close to the book. LWW came the closest.

I'm sure Andrew did read the books thoroughly, but his first action was to write down what he remembered from when he was eight, to get that vivid memory and feeling.

In the LWW bonus features on the second disk he said the first thing he did was write down what he remembered before rereading the book. This implies that he reread the book.

I disagree that LWW wasn't close to the book, the only two things I can think of off the top of my head that were changed were they way the kids entered Narnia (he explianed why he did this in the audio commentary or behind the scenes, by saying that he didn't think the way it happened in the book made much since, a comment I partially, though not totally agree with) and the scene when Lucy saw the frozen fish which was actually deleted, but if I recall it occurs in they extended edition" Besides that a couple of the characters lines got switched around (why I have no idea, but that happens in every movie and most are a lot worse, and he elaborated on some scenes which were only breifly described in the book, but I wouldn't call that being unclose to the book just explaining more of what could of happened since it wasn't clear in the book (ex the bombing, battle).
As far as PC's concerned yes they did stray from they book, but I'm partially glad because the plot timing in the book bored me with the Pensevies only being in one half and Caspian in the other. Although it would have been nice if they didn't include the kiss, the train fight, and the Peter/ Caspian Rivalry (or at least have them end the rivalry and become freinds earlier that the did in the movie and make it more evident)
