Right now, I think my biggest worry so far is that they might change the point of the story. I'm not too concerned about the details; it's just this whole idea of changing the story from "save the seven lords" to "save all the world from an unfathomable fate."

From the Synopsis:
"Edmund Pevensie and Lucy Pevensie, along with their pesky cousin Eustace Scrubb, find themselves swallowed into a painting and on to a fantastic Narnian ship headed for the very edges of the world. Joining forces once again with their royal friend Caspian X and the warrior mouse Reepicheep, they are whisked away on a mysterious mission to the Lone Islands, and beyond. On this bewitching voyage that will test their hearts and spirits, the trio will face magical Dufflepuds, sinister slave traders, roaring dragons and enchanted merfolk. Only an entirely uncharted journey to Aslan's Country - a voyage of destiny and transformation for each of those aboard the Dawn Treader - can save Narnia, and all the astonishing creatures in it, from an unfathomable fate."

So, does that mean all the ship's crew will sail to Aslan's Country? Wait, let me say that again -- they actually go to Aslan's Country?

Oh, Walden, did you learn anything from PC?

I'm about 80 % sure that the story will be transformed from a small, discovery story to a kid-friendly Pirates of the Caribbean / LOTR mix.

Just like how PC was, in many ways, a kid-friendly war-movie. And it didn't work. Just look at the box office: LWW made $745 million, PC only made $419 million. That's really a success for ANY movie... but not when Disney was counting on, I don't know, a movie even more successful than the first, and especially when they spent $200 million (a HUGE budget) on it.

----
But still, even though I sound very pessimistic, I really am optimistic. :D Even with the direction the movie seems to be taking.

Oh! I forgot. The Aslan scenes are crucial to the plot. I hope they don't dumb them down or change Aslan's dialogue, especially at the end.

What I really fear is that when he's supposed to say, "I am also in your world", what he will say in the movie will be something like: "I am many things in your world. There are many paths and many ways to get to me. Remember the power of family." Or something along those lines.

I fear that Georgie Henley will look a bit too old in her role as Lucy (although I would never want anyone else playing Lucy and realise that this is unavoidable due to the amount of time it takes to make a film).

I hope Caspian doesn't mention or ask about Susan and that if he does it's only brief.

I fear the Christian themes such as Aslan appearing at first as a cross and then an albatross to comfort them and the lamb at the end will be whitewashed out somehow. I can see this happening.

I also hope (as Shasta The Second points out) that the film doesn't end up turning into a 'kid-friendly Pirates of The Carribbean').

I hope there aren't any - or too many - added characters and that the main plot stays (more or less) the same.

It would be nice to think the film is going to be exactly like the book but when does this ever happen with any book turned into a film? Hardly ever.
No matter how much they twist, alter and 'modernise' the films to attract large audiences and (hopefully) turn them into vast money makers there will always be the Narnia books - and they can never be changed.

Make your choice adventurous stranger.
Strike the bell and bide the danger.
Or wonder 'till it drives you mad
what would have happened if you had.

I think that my main problems would be -

1. Lucy having a crush on Caspian. I mean, it wouldn't be tooo terrible if it was only a little part, but he he likes her back .. ugh, no.

2. The end of the book with the lamb and all. I think that they'll probably take that out but I realllllllllllly don't want them to! It's supposed to be an allegory to the Christian faith; they don't need to take that out.

Okay. I consider myself a book purist in some respects- depending on the storyline. With Prince Caspian, I didn't really have a problem with anything, since filming Prince Caspian like the book, from cover to cover, would not result in a good movie.
However, I find VotDT a much better written, exciting book, and would not be happy with very big changes.

1- "The Unfathomable Fate"/ Borrowing- I don't like the sound of this very much. If T.U.F is borrowed from one of the other books (eg. Lady of the Green Kirtle) then I will have a big problem with it. As long as the borrowing from other books is not too major, and won't result in big changes in future movies (if any), then I will be fine with it.

2- As Miss Lucy said- Lucy having a crush on Caspian. I think it would be frightfully cheesy (if Caspian liked her back), after the Susaspian thing, and now him marrying RD in this movie.
(I've thought before about this, and thought that if it were true, they might add something in the Magician's Book part when she is tempted to say the beauty spell, like a re-do of the Farewell Scene in PC, but instead of Susan kissing him, the book shows it being Lucy... Can you imagine that? Good grief. Extremely unnecessary. And if they put it in the trailer... Dear me!) (Then there could be Ramandu's Daughter and Lucy tension =)) )
I imagine Caspian as more of a big brother type figure to Lucy, and I desperately hope it will be like that in the movie.

3- Eustace being de-dragonized at the very end, rather than in the middle. I won't mind if they delay it a bit, but I want to see Eustace as a changed boy in the Voyage, and not just a changed dragon.

4- Finally, the lessening of Christian significance. I would love to see everything in the movie- Aslan as a Lamb etc...- I hope and think that Apted will keep these true to the heart of the book.

A lot of the changes that I have heard hasn't really bothered me lately. The changing of the numbers for the islands fom seven to five sort of bothered me for about two days. I outgrew it. #:-s

Something that I still think about time from time is if they changed the Dragon Island or the meaning towards the end of the story.

3. Unnecessary mushy stuff (meaning anything outside of the Caspian/RD 'ship, or making the Caspian/RD 'ship too strong; adding mush scenes).

I half agree on this stuff. I don't mind them giving RD more to do and developing the romance, but I don't want them to make it a central theme to the movie and add in tons of cheesy romance dialouge. This needs to feel like a Narnia movie, not Titanic.

1. added mushiness
2. too many sub-plots and added characters
3. no spiritual development or content

Ummm . . .

I think I'm always a little worried when books are adapted into films that the little things that make the book enjoyable, although not central to the story, are lost. It's often understandable when they are, you are trying to tell a story, but I end up missing them.

I'm really talking about things that characters may say. For example, talking about falling off the edge of the world and our world being round. This may very likely not be in the film, but I think I just like a good chat! ;)

Having said that, I'm not too hung up about it - I've had lots of experience now to know what to expect and not be disappointed.

Claire-eyes,

"A good chat" IS important in a movie. One of the weaknesses of 'Prince Caspian,' I've observed is that all the book dialogue was boiled down to a series of one-liners. This created a big problem in that it made it seem that the characters had communication problems, even when they were unnecessary.

^^yes with this movie, they have to have more conversation. PC had hardly any discussions between the characters at all...

I didn't want to say anything before, but I always feared that they would change someone in the cast.....but now that fear has come true!!!! why did they have to change the voice of Reepicheep!?

I'm not sure I care about that casting change yet. I wasn't too big a fan of how they did Reepicheep in PC, or of his voice. I don't really care either way who plays him since the attitude they gave him in PC was more obnoxious, rude, and violent rather than gallant. I will say that Narniaweb changing the cast list is a bit premature, since we don't have word rom the film producers themselves yet.

I don't think Reep having a different voice is going to break the movie. :P There are far worse things they could do besides that.
