Hello folks!

Now that The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is on Blu-Ray and DVD we can start discussing the bonus content included on the disks, including behind-the-scenes content, games, and most of all, deleted scenes!

I'll start the discussion by saying that I enjoyed all of the deleted scenes, but they felt too short, as if there was more to the deleted scene, but we were only allowed to see a snippet of it. I'll hold off saying any more until I hear from some other people about what they thought. :)

I agree with that, but I also think there were more deleted scenes that didn't get included at all :(

I actually liked the animated feature... it had a nice storytelling feel, and it hit a little bit more on Reep's honor... which the film itself missed.

Also I thought it was nice that the dragon feature acknowledged that Eustace was transformed because of the "greedy, dragonish thoughts"

I have yet to hear the commentary, but I can already say I will miss hearing the kids :(

I enjoyed them too, and I totally agree that parts of them seemed to be missing and there ought to be more. I was glad that Lucy gave Eustace the cordial instead of putting it in the soup as reported / described elsewhere. I was rather disappointed that the mutiny was cut short by land being sighted rather than by Caspian's speaking skills.

I haven't listened to the commentary yet but I finished the other special features. I would have liked a lot more behind the scenes stuff. Are the special features pretty standard between the different versions? i.e. Blue Ray vs regular, from different stores (There was a link in the DVD sales thread to an article saying that certain stores were pushing their own exclusive versions)
My movie disc has (note I copied the chapter list from Barns and Nobles I moved Dragon Discovery from the MI list to the GWI list and switch Dufflepud Discovery to the MI list. Any other mistakes are as they are on the site (see bolded): The Kids in Narnian Clothes, Eustace Is Ill, Mutiny, Caspian "Doubt", and Commentary by Director Michael Apted and Producer Mark Johnson
My Narnia Explorer Pack has:

The features on the Explore disc seemed to be a mixture of the book(s) and movies. It was kind of odd. I didn't know oak wood had special properties.

actually liked the animated feature... it had a nice storytelling feel, and it hit a little bit more on Reep's honor... which the film itself missed.

I liked parts of it but sometimes it felt forced as if Caspian was trying too hard to make it story-like and exciting. Most of the features felt that way to me. I did like that it put more importance on Reep's honor. I found it odd that the included his "Use? if by use you mean ..." line about pursuing the pirates. It was also odd to see pictures from other books used to relate to actions happening between PC and VDT. I also wonder where Reep got 50 mice from. He only had 12 in PC. :- I noticed that the changed what Caspian said about the Duke's daughter. 8-| Of course I know why the did. :p I was disappointed by the lack of bloopers. :( I love bloopers.

i think that the Blu-Ray special features were definitely aimed at appealing to younger children.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the women narrating the "Explore" featurettes was the same narrator of the "Creature" featuretts from the LWW DVD? (They sounded the same to me.)

"I'm a beast I am, and a Badger what's more. We don't change. We hold on. I say great good will come of it... And we beasts remember, even if Dwarfs forget, that Narnia was never right except when a son of Adam was King." -Trufflehunter

I think that was the same women, Trufflehunter. I can't prove it, but I thought she sounded the same too.

Pattertwig's Pal, sounds like you've got the same special features I do, and I have the Blu-ray version. Doesn't look like we're missing out on anything. Unless the new 3D Blu-ray has something to add?

My favorite special feature had to be The Secret Islands because it does try to bridge the gap between the movies and reconcile things with the books as well. (And because it is a nice way to recap those early islands that all adaptations of VDT seem to miss.)

When I got the DVD, I got the "Explorer Pack", the one with the regular movie, and a DVD full of explorations, or something. My favorite bonus features are the deleted scenes, especially "Mutiny" and "Caspian in Doubt".
Both of those scenes make better character development for Caspian and a little bit of Edmund.

My second favorite feature has to be the animated short. The Pauline Baynes illustrations were amazing, in spite of little movement, but it gives more back story to the purpose of the voyage. I loved it a lot, and watched it many times.

I am actually glad the features are targeted toward younger children. I think watching the movie might encourage children to read the books, then watch any possible future movies. It certainly worked with me when I saw LWW in theaters when I was younger. :)

I do not know if this counts as an extra feature.

But I used the Spanish subtitles today while watching the movie with my grandmother.

For the most part, they were very good. I could read them easily- but my grandmother found them a little small.

Very good word usage. They are Mexican based- I could tell because of the word they used for "pull".

Overall, good job on them.
