There is already a topic to discuss the relative lack of advertisement for this movie so far compared with the last movie here, and another discussion on whether or not Fox are deliberatley keeping publicity for the movie on the down-low here, but seeing as we are getting into advertising season now, i thought it would be useful to have a thread for reporting of actual advertisements and promotions. Stuff that would perhaps not warrant its own topic or news-story article, but that people might still be interested to hear about. We had a similar topic for Prince Caspian and it proved to be most useful.
Any thoughts on the current state of advertising or Fox's promotional strategy can be posted in one of the aforementioned topics, but if you've spotted any interesting advertisements or promotions for the film out in the real world or online, post them here:
So to start with...
1. The GSC-Eon Bank Credit Card in Malaysia are running 4 different promotional competitions in association with the new movie:
http://www.gsc-eonbankcard.com/
2.NarniaWebber PeaceAndLove posted an advert for 3D TVs in Japan which featured a tie-in with the new movie here:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1631&start=16#p101128
3.NarniaWebber Starkat posted a photo of a promotional display for the movie in Family Christian Books in the Word On The Street news section:
http://www.narniaweb.com/2010/09/in-sto ... has-begun/
4. Also as reported in the Word On The Street news section, Scholastic are running a sweepstake competition to win tickets to the world premiere here:
http://teacher.scholastic.com/clubs/contests/narnia.htm
And in addition, the Scholastic "Storyworks" Magazine for school teachers features a short play based on the book and new movie for use in classrooms:
http://www.storyworksmagazine.com/index ... a0ff1e9fce
5. In other Educational Promotion work being done, The National Schools Partnership is running an Arts and Literature programme for schools in the UK inspired by the new film:
http://www.nationalschoolspartnership.c ... oyages.php
6. The November/December issue of the "Bulletin" magazine from STL Distribution, a company who seemingly distribute products to Christian Retailers has the Voyage of the Dawn Treader movie on the cover:
http://stldistribution.blogspot.com/201 ... s-asm.html
7.The website for one of the "Voyage on The Matthew" competitions in Europe which didn't get reported at NarniaWeb at the time (for the Germany based competition to be precise) seems to indicate that the overall winner of the games and competitions played during the Voyage (which was back in August) would get to return to England for the World Premiere and "steer the ship in London on the Thames as Captain". So we might yet see the return of The Matthew to the promotional fray:

The other promotional competitions in association with The Matthew were with Channel 5 in the UK: link and link. National Geographic in Italy: link, and Okapi in France: link

If you've seen any other tidbits of advertisement or promotion, no matter how big or small, please post it here as there are surely lots of people besides myself who would be fascinated to learn of every little thing that is being done to help promote the movie
Amazing stuff, icarus! Thanks for starting this thread!
I doubt I'll have anything to add it to it, though.
Regarding competitions, I didn't see anything about the Operation Narnia sweepstakes.
Oh, it wasn't by any means a comprehensive list of every marketing thing that's been done so far, just a summary of some of the recent activity. Feel free to add any details and information on that and anything else that's occurred recently which you feel may be worth noting for future reference.
Some other bits and pieces from today:
1. An advert for the HarperCollins Movie Tie-In Books from Christian MarketPlace Magazine in the UK:
For more information on the HarperCollins Movie Tie-In Books and some other little promotional tidbits relating to HarperCollins, see this thread over here:
2. Also in the UK, the October Issue of Unlimited Magazine (the free magazine you get in CineWorld Cinemas) features Voyage of the Dawn Treader in it this month, although its not much more than a full page shot of Aslan from the Teaser Poster, with some information about the film paraphrased from one of the official synopsis, but its still some good exposure for the movie.
3. In the USA: Randy Testa, Vice-President for Education at Walden Media is continuing his promotional tour for the new movie this month. He will be appearing at the Massachusets School Library Association on October 3rd, (Link), and the Diamond State Reading Association on October 8th, (Link).
He has previously given similar presentations at Virginia State Reading Association back in early March, (Link), the Michigan Reading Association in late March, (Link), the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association in April (Link) and the Fesitval of Faith and Writing also in April, (Link).
In most cases he seems to have talked about the themes within the books and movies, shown clips from the new movie, and handed out free educators materials.
Caspian XI took this image of the Scholastic VDT contest, from a book order.
NarniaFans.com is reporting on a Promotional Competition for the movie in Germany in association with the book's german publisher Ueberreuter and the German Reading Foundation:

They also have a story up about the previously mentioned GSC Eon Bank Credit Card promotional competition:
Focus on the Family has a new VDT contest. It's called "Focus on Christmas" and the grand prize is a trip to the world premiere on November 30!

Does anyone know if this movie will have a McDonalds promotion with VotDT toys? I know that didnt happen with the PC movie since Disney seperated from McDonalds, but now that its 20th Centry Fox, I've wondered if that would change.
Winter Is Coming
Most recent 20th Century Fox children's movies (Ice Age, Night at the Museum, Alvin and the Chipmunks) have had McDonalds Happy Meal promotions associated with them, so i would fully expect them to do so for VDT, unless Walden have some sort of veto clause which allows them to opt-out of such obligations.
Apparently 20th Century Fox and McDonalds signed a Global Partnership agreement last year running through to this year:
In my opinon, VotDT almost NEEDS to be advertized by McDonalds (with toys for the kids!) if it plans to do well. Lets admit it, they don't have a huge budget and they arent going to sell much merchandise. And the less merchandise, the less knowelge there is about the movie.
But tons of kids get happy meals and it would be a good way of sparking interest in them.
Winter Is Coming
An edited version of the new VDT trailer was shown at the end of the first episode of the new series of Film2010 on BBC1 last night. Although the show ended at around 11:25pm, it still provided some fantastic exposure for the movie in a mainstream television programme.
UK Viewers can watch the entire episode on demand via BBC iPlayer, until next Wednesday should you so wish:

ADDED: AslansCountry.com have posted a YouTube video of the edited version of the trailer that closed the show:
http://www.aslanscountry.com/2010/10/da ... n-youtube/
ADDED: Also, an unconfirmed report that the latest VDT trailer is screening in cinemas in the UK with the Back to the Future 25th Anniversay Re-Release, which came out on October 1st.

(see comment #1)
1. Georgie, Will and Skandar appear in a short video to promote the movie on Yahoo7 in Australia:
http://au.video.yahoo.com/watch/8366409/22376567
2. An interview on Voyage of the Dawn Treader is due to appear in the new issue of Movie Magic magazine, due out on November 8th:
http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/ ... s/?a=23989
VDT has also been recently featured in SFX Magazine and Empire Magazine in the past few months, and will hopefully soon start appearing on more magazine covers in the next month or so.
ADDED: In other magazine news, BenBarnesFan have some scans from VDT articles in the October issue of Imagenes (Spain) (here) and the October November issue of One (France) (here)
Yes! I think this is the first time we've seen all three talking about VDT!
I had to laugh at how much Georgie said, and how Will and Skandar said very little in comparison!
Wow, Will looks so much older then he does in the trailers. I had a hard time believing he was 16 earlier. Likewise, Skandar looks a lot younger then he does in the trailers.
Winter Is Coming
wow, they are all the same height!
Josh: yeah, that's true! Will looks older than Skandar even though Skandar is older than him!
Skandar seems to look younger in this film.....though his voice got a good deal deeper!

Another very interesting snippet of VDT marketing information:
An article in the Guilford Record on October 10th 2010, reported on a "high-tech sales and engineering firm" called Cross Co., based in Greensboro (presumably North Carolina), who are working on elements for a series of new Narnia Exhibits which will be on display in Shopping Malls across the USA. I would assume they would be on display sometime nearer to the movie's release:
Cross is working on an advanced biofuel plant in Tennessee, powering giant dinosaur robots at a Florida theme park and programming exhibits for the new movie, "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader"
The company also provided motion control and automation for the large, new Narnia exhbits that will be showcased in shopping malls throughout the country to help promote "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," which opens in December"
http://www.crossco.com/assets/NewsAndRecord.pdf
Given the company's line of work in animatronics and the like, it sounds like it will be a pretty cool exhbit. Hopefully some Narniawebber's in the USA will get the chance to go check it out when it comes around.
