Don't worry. Be happy.
*kitschy 70's music plays merrily*
Serioulsy though, I understand that there's always going to be a threat; I just was hoping it wasn't going to be *that* threat. For one thing, Tron 2 is HIGHLY anticipated; it's been that way since last year. And then you have VdT, that's practically an unknown among anyone except movie geeks, and even then some. See, pretty much everyone heard the big announcement in December when Disney dumped Narnia, but only a small percentage of those people heard that Narnia got picked back up again. If these people don't even know the film is being made, how can they create hype for it?
Of course, we're still a long way from the actual marketing phase, so it could be that once posters and whatnot hit mainstream, we'll get all the hype we want and then some. We just need to make sure that it's enough hype to ensure that it will have a solid run against what is probably one of the most hyped films of the year.
Plus, I mean, it's Disney. If that isn't a harsh battle of respect and self-worth, I don't know what is. I'm sure we'd all love to look at Disney loftily after Tron comes out and give them a big, fat, "I told you so!"
Gymfan, I have to apologize for chastising you for worrying too much. While I don't worry about competition, it dawned on me that I spend a lot of time fretting over how faithful these movies are, and especially things like the "There I have another name." line. So, I guess we're all worry worts, to some degree. And, yes, I am going to drag as many people as possible, as many times as possible, to see Dawn Treader, and I hope everyone else does, too. I have a feeling there are going to be some nervous Disney accountants that Monday morning, having to justify the "declining interest in the franchise" excuse...
"This is no thaw. This is Spring! Your winter has been destroyed. This... is Aslan's doing!"
Thanks for the apology, Steerforth, but you didn't need to. I think we all spend a lot of time worrying over things we absolutely cannot control, like the success of a competition film or the faithfulness of a script. But then again, if we didn't worry, we really wouldn't be Narnia fans, now would we.
