But think about this: “lost souls we’re here to save” is classic evangelical language. This is Bible talk! People = souls. People needing salvation = lost souls. So Caspian’s line doesn’t bother me.

Here is where I'm cautious with that. I won't pretend I know what the writers were intending when they gave Caspian that piece of dialogue, it could be figuratively speaking of the missing lords or perhaps the slaves, it could not be. Based upon the two previous films, with Mr. Beaver telling the Pevensies that everything that's changing in Narnia is happening because of them, with Father Christmas reiterating that Christmas has returned because they have arrived, with Lucy telling Peter in PC that they needed to prove themselves to Aslan (which is a vague line to begin with), etc., all of these brief moments have, to some degree, shifted the focus off Aslan and on to the children. Let's hope this trend is kept at bay for the rest of the series.

The idea that Christians can actually save the souls of others, I would argue, is not a biblical concept. In Christian teaching, isn't it salvation only through Christ? I understand Lewis said that the Narnia books were not written to be allegorical, but in Lewis' world, it would make the most logical sense that Aslan alone has the power to "soul-save" and that his followers only have the power to direct others to him.

Perhaps when we hear Caspian's line in context, it will be clearer. But my hope is that it's used figuratively when he says "souls" and it doesn't literally mean they are responsible and able to save people's actual souls from a kind of damnation. That would further deviate from the biblical Christian viewpoints that Lewis included in his books.

Peter: I hunch.
Mary Jane: Don't.

"Lost souls" is also sea-faring "speak" for people lost at sea...or believed to be lost at sea. In the film, it could very well be said in that context with no theological implications.

I really think it's unlikely that Caspian's line is referring to some sort of theological state of lostness. I think it's far more likely that it's just a figure of speech referring to the Seven Lords of the mysteriously missing island people.

I sure hope so, Booky. I didn't read the leaked script much (I skimmed and became disgusted, and so stopped), but I've heard a lot and the Narnia franchise will be dead to me if they extrapolate on the Emerald Witch/Lost souls idea. :(

I want more than a teaser trailer, but it's nice to see something so soon after the first teaser trailer! yay!

I think this trailer puts a bit of a different light on this movie than the previous trailer did. The last one made it feel very kiddish, though I wasn't completely unhappy with it, I admit it didn't feel very serious. This new trailer feels grave, a bit mysterious, and overall significantly more mature. Some of the shots I really adored, like Lucy walking up to the magician's book. The Pevensies walking may have produced more questions than answers, but I'm glad it clears up the issue of what the heck was behind them, now it's just to figure out where these thrones are. I actually liked Caspian's line at the end, and I remember someone mentioning on another thread (or perhaps it was this one, I don't remember) that it sounded like something he would say while they were sailing into the darkness, and it makes sense because it sounds so urgent and somewhat desperate, a little like he's comforting his crew members while they are enduring horrible dreams in it.

I've just noticed how most of the photos we are getting of Lucy, she is wearing men's clothing. In the book she wore Caspian's clothes until her clothes were dry (it can be seen in the illustrations, though I'm not sure they are the best source for this.)

Anyways, what do you think of it? Being the tomboy that I am, it doesn't bother me in one way, but being a Narnia fan, I feel this is an attempt to make Lucy "masculine." I could get into how our culture feels that to be a strong woman you must act like a man, and how this is a result of such thinking, but thats my gender studies nerd side taking over.

^^ I think it's just keeping up with the continuity of the first two movies: in LWW, once the Pevensies get to Narnia, they get Narnian clothes and they don't go back to their own clothes until they return to their own world. in PC it's the same too! so.....in VotDT I am guessing that that's why Lucy is still wearing Caspian's clothes but tha's just a theory......

Let's not forget that this is a DVD trailer, guys - not a theatrical trailer. That's why it's so short and that's why it doesn't cover as much ground as a traditional trailer would. Some of the criticisms I see in this thread would be valid IF this were FOX's next big marketing attempt, but it's not. It's just a quick glimpse to serve as a preview on a DVD.

Exactly, equustel. I've been considering that thought for a while and comforting myself with it.
Not that this new trailer is bad according to composition-- the only things that bug me are a couple off-sounding lines and the undercooked CGI.

I think Lucy is just wearing pants because a dress on a ship isn't exactly practical, especially if she does any kind of climbing.

^Yes. At least that is what Elizabeth started to do in POTC when she began going at sea a lot. She wore pants instead of dresses.

I really like this trailer a lot better then the first. The way how the introduction was laid out and the music gave you a sense that this will be a very epic movie.

I think Lucy is just wearing pants because a dress on a ship isn't exactly practical, especially if she does any kind of climbing.

Didn't Susan and Lucy walk and climb down a lot in PC while wearing dresses? Even so I agree that Lucy should be wearing pants throughout the voyage because it was in the book.

Did anybody else notice that Lucy, when with the other Pevensies in the trailer, is wearing the clothes she borrowed from Caspian? This is really worrying me. Not that I mind seeing more of Peter and Susan, but it is against the story. We don't see Peter again until the Last Battle. And Susan gives up on Narnia and is in America during Voyage of the Dawn Treader. And if Lucy is wearing Narnian clothes from during Dawn Treader, and the others have their Narnian stuff like Rhindon and Susan's bow, that means that it is either a really realistic dream or Susan and Peter are back in Narnia. Maybe it is in Aslan's country?
