The message coming from some comments, especially from the first trailer, makes me think some people cross the film's chances for being good based solely on the trailer. If it's not what they mean, they chose words that made me think they do mean it. Plus there is an undeniable wave of negativity about all sorts of changes and mysteries from the trailer, I'm surprised how many people assume something bad instead of wondering what good could it be.
I didn't talk about CGI, what gave you that idea? As per the CGI, I several times commented to some people complaining that the effects are not yet complete (I'm fairly sure the odd looking Reep in the new trailer is one of them, unless it's at the last sea where everything is said to look bright, vivid and unusual, though I hope it's not that), and I imagine they don't have a choice but to advertise the film with unfinished CGI bits. The production was very tight and tense from the beginning, and I'm sad they apparently didn't have enough time to complete a sufficing amount of CGI work before the time for advertisment campaign came.
I didn't like the new trailer because it was not the best trailer work. Not the best commercial. I hope there will come a better trailer, hopefully one lasting around standard 2:30 mins and giving us more Caspian, more Eustace and more plot description for those who didn't read the books and might still be enticed to see the film.
I've seen the movie 9 times!!! (PC)
I've seen the movie 7 times!!! (VoDT) And loved it!

Far from a wave of negativity, reactions to this newest trailer have been far better than the reactions to the previous trailer. Complaints about the CGI have been the only complaints that have dominated people's posting, which is why I assumed that's what you're talking about.
As for people assuming the worst, why would you be surprised? People were severely disappointed by PC and the advertising we've seen for VDT has done nothing to persuade people to think Walden got it right this time. The leaked script is lurking in the back of a lot of peoples' minds. Then we get two trailers that show two characters in what may be Narnia who should not be there unless Aslan lied in the previous movie. Throw in the Witch, who has been defeated TWICE looking decidedly green and Ramandu's Daughter acting like a human nightlight and it's a wonder any of the hardcore book fans has a optimistic attitude toward the movie.

... on here. And on here alone.
Most people don't go to every single website that has the trailer story pop up and read through the comments, but I do just to get a feel for how the general audience likes it. Because at the end of the day, it's the general audience, not us, that are going to bring in the $$$ at the box office. We're just a small percent.
The first trailer was received pretty positively. I was surprised. Far better received than any of the Prince Caspian trailers ever were. Part of that may have been that VDT is usually the favorite in any poll of people who have read all seven books and for that group, they may have been excited to see this movie in the works, I don't know.
This trailer however, not very positively received at all. In fact, the most positive place it was received, was here. *shrugs*
One thing that bothers me is Lucy... I so, SO fiercely hope this won't be turned into a Lucy film! I mean, come on, to me it's the story of Caspian (PC is still very much the Pevensies' story, not Caspian's), ...
For Eustace, it's improvement, change of character, adding a noble touch to him, pennance for his wrongdoings and growth of his person through the voyage. Not to mention introduction of him to Narnia. And those two crucial characters seem to be missing from the trailers altogether!
An interesting perspective. One I personally disagree with. But I can certainly see what you're coming from.
However, the lack of these two characters in the trailers doesn't surprise me. That IS typical marketing strategy. You may or may not have noticed that after the PC movie came out, the character of Caspian wasn't received very well (and that was entirely the filmmakers fault. About two thirds of his story from the book was cut out. How could people get attached to him?) There's no way they're going to focus their trailers on him after that.
And as far as Eustace is concerned, they almost never introduce new characters in trailers, no matter how important they are. If you go back and watch the first and second PC trailers, Caspian has a couple lines "I am Prince Caspian" and a few quick shots of his face, but the trailers heavily focus on the Pevensies.
Whether that's the right thing to do or not, I don't know, I'm not a filmmaker. Though I'd probably do it differently if I were.
But if there IS one person to safely focus on to bring audiences back in, it's Lucy. She's without a doubt, the favorite character in the first two movies. And she doesn't have a small role in the book either. Personally I think she's just as much of a main character as Caspian and Eustace. And the movie is the culmination of her character arc throughout the series. Yes, she returns for HHB and LB, but she's a very minor character in both of those books. So this is her goodbye. (And Edmund's too, though his role isn't very big in VDT by comparison)
I read comments on other sites (those that posted Trailer #2) and came away with the impression that it was well-received also. I was surprised at the number of people who commented about looking forward to the trailer.
Negative comments were about the CGI (very understandable) and/or said something to the effect of, "these movies are still around?" or "they all look the same." Which is funny, because those are my reactions to the endless stream of Harry Potter films.
I was kinda thinking it would work in an unusual way (Like the Dufflepuds' weapons; "They become visible when they leave our hands"). Maybe it's only invisible from outside, and once you step in you can see what's around you.
I'm not sure about the obvious shrubbery where the House should go, though! Maybe it's a magical illusion? Seems a bit too complicated.
Yeah. I think you're probably onto something.
Or we could combine the two and make it "All that you know just gets weirder and weirder" Or the version I currently have in my signature "All that we see just gets weirder and weirder" I have been thinking of "This just keeps getting weirder and weirder" and "All that you know is about to change." a lot since the first trailer came out.
Lol!

I personally think that PC was Caspian's story. It showed his point of view for several chapters, and it was focused on his battle for the throne. I would say VDT isn't anyone's special story -- the book focuses on everybody, not just one or two people. It has several chapters from Caspian's point of view, several chapters from Eustace's point of view, maybe half a chapter from Edmund's point of view, and the rest of the time (probably the majority), it's Lucy's point of view. The books are written from Lucy's point of view a lot.
Throw in the Witch, who has been defeated TWICE looking decidedly green
I have a theory on why she looks green. Perhaps the green mist has to do with nightmares coming to life. Since she should be a nightmare, perhaps she has been made to look green to match the mist.
This would happen while I was on vacation!
I'm tentatively liking the trailer. It has direction, and some of the new shots are gorgeous. I'm totally NOT getting the snow around Lucy, or the Magician's Book flipping madness, but I figure with a magic book you've got some wiggle room.
As for Caspian's accent change, I only learned that the voice was Caspian when I came into this thread! I was wondering who was speaking. Does that tell you anything about how much his voice has changed in my ears?
Anyhow, I like it!

The fate of narnia depends on you... shivers up the spine. I just want a good adventure the fate of the world doesn't have to be in the balance all the time.
True. The book is more about battling one's own 'demons' than battling an external force. And of course searching for the lost Lords.

Doctor Who - Season 11
I don't understand the whole "the fate of Narnia depends on you" thing. According to the book they aren't going to save Narnia, they are just going out to look fir the lords. The book has nothing to do with saving Narnia.

A human nightlight. Bookwyrm that was funny.
I think that they shouldn't use the trailers to introduce the new characters. I think they did a little bit too much of that for PC. They had a behind the scenes thing that was mostly Ben Barnes talking. I just think that they need to make that connection to the previous films and do so by showing the known characters.
There are no clouds in the sky. There is only the open sun and the Lord watches.
PART 1 of my analysis:
The thought that is keeping me from despair about VDT is that we still haven't seen much at all. Fox is holding back.

Exactly. I'm still axiously waiting for something to ease my mind about VDT. With both LWW and PC, the first trailer made me feel a lot better.
As for Aslan lying... In the PC movie, Susan just said "we're not coming back." She didn't see where to. None of VDT takes place in Narnia. So you can see the screenwriters thinking they've found a loophole.
The fate of narnia depends on you... shivers up the spine. I just want a good adventure the fate of the world doesn't have to be in the balance all the time.
Seems like the filmmakers don't find the characters compelling enough, and so feel the need to put Narnia itself on the line. I hope that's not the case, but that's the feeling I get everytime I hear that line.
I will have to say that it was so much more better then the first trailer. My only problem is the scene with Peter and Susan still being there. At least they are starting to give us clues where they might appear, still Lilliandil's line over that scene of Peter and Susan really irked me. Otherwise it's a very enjoyable trailer with magic I felt returned ever since the first LWW trailer. Just I want more Caspian, Eustace and Edmund next time around. Lilliandil looked simply awesome!

I saw the new trailer once or twice. I don't like it as much as the first trailer and here's partly why. From our (Poggin and I) VDT trailers analysis at Aslan's Country:
-I don’t know if Caspian’s line refers to the “unfathomable fate” or not. And I don’t know who he’s speaking of either. But think about this: “lost souls we’re here to save” is classic evangelical language. This is Bible talk! People = souls. People needing salvation = lost souls. So Caspian’s line doesn’t bother me.
-I think the first trailer is overall a better one. We saw more movie characters, more of the film’s theme [temptation], a subtle connection with the first two films in the series, and more sets. I expected the second trailer to focus on Eustace and reveal more of the storyline. This one did neither. It was too short and too Lucy-centered. We actually saw less characters! And Eustace never really appeared. The storyline of this trailer actually confused me!

EDIT: glumPuddle, you said none of VDT takes place in Narnia. Well what about all those islands the Dawn Treader explores before Edmund, Lucy, and Eustace arrive? And the Lone Islands, which belong to Narnia?
Caspian and his crew started off their voyage from Narnia, but the kids didn't join the voyage until long after they had left Cair Paravel.
