Am I the only one who thought the boy band looked as if they were having cramps? It was ridiculous... but the audience in the video seemed to enjoy the song.
Carrie, on the other hand, was great. Yes, they could do better, but it doesn't look like too much to be dissatisfied with. Take a look at the lyrics of so many popular songs- most of them will, in fact, be cheesy.
But honestly, part of me was disappointed. The song was pretty good, but they could have done better. So I'm with the 'mehs' as of right now.
I've just listened to it again, and thought I heard a male voice harmonising with Carrie Underwood during parts of the song (mostly the choruses). Try 1:19 for example. I don't know if it's just my ears playing tricks on me though.
Perhaps it's Joe Mcelderry? Maybe this is his involvement with the song?

HAHAHA I so thought the same!
Well anyways, I'm not a big fan of Carrie (or country for that matter) and I think that they lyrics are cheesy but I think that in the right context, it could work...

Honestly, I don't think Carrie's version of the song is very 'country' at all. What makes music 'country' as opposed to something else? Why would you say this song is 'country'?

Lirenel, I was refering to country because Carrie is generally categorized as a country star... but I don't think that this song is country... there's not enough of a twang feel for me to call it country... sorry for the confusion

I'm afraid to say I don't really like it much more with carrie singing it
granted, her voice is better, and it's by no means bad or anything like that...it's just, well, it doesn't feel very connected to Narnia. 'voyage' is definitely superior imo. but oh well. it's only the credits, so although it's disappointing we have to keep things positive
Grief for the movies made me abandon narniaweb...but I'm so glad to be back!
Many thanks to the wonderful Lady Eowyn for making my sig/av.
Well, now that I've heard Carrie's official recorded version of the full song, I feel a bit more free to judge it.
I like the song ok (moving up from strongly disliking after hearing the Swedish? trio and Joe McEldery sing it), though I don't love it. This is Home by Switchfoot is still my favorite credits song.
I voted that I kinda like it. I bought it off of iTunes because it's a Narnia movie credit song, but it didn't "wow" me the way "Wunderkind", "The Call", and "This is Home" did. It'll probably grow on me eventually. The lyrics are slightly cheesy, and I'm not sure the whole country thing works for me, but it's still a good song. It's just not breathtaking like the other end credit songs were. Sorry, Carrie.

I've listened to the version by Joe McElderry a few times and it went like this:
First listen - Meh.
Second listen - Not that meh.
Third listen - Not too bad after all.
Fourth listen - Wow, I love it, I'm glad I don't go by my initial reactions.
Fifth listen - Off to youtube to see what else he does.
A few youtube videos later and I part with my hard earned and I'm now the proud owner of Wide Awake. I think he's got an almost tone perfect voice when he's not over produced.
ok, the more I listen to it, the more I like it! I love her voice, so that's a factor that I have to consider
I think hearing the song sung by that guy band ruined it at first. but I like it much better now

The song (sung by Carrie) is pretty. But I hate the pointless lyrics.
First of all, I don't think they have anything to do with VDT. I really don't see how VDT is about fitting in or finding a place where you belong.
The other thing I really don't like is how the song throws around words like "faith" and "hope" without really meaning anything by them.
"We can be the kings and queens of anything if we believe." Oh really? I believe I'm the queen of the moon. yay. that solved all my problems.
See what I mean?

So, is it a thing now for various artists to do music videos with this song? First Victoria S. and now this Sonohra duo. I gotta say, I prefer Carrie to Victoria, but I actually liked the Sonohra version - the first male vocals I've liked for this song. It's less 'sweet', imo.

Blah... I hate it... Don't like the song period, doesn't matter who's singing it. They're all the same. And I like Carrie Underwood well enough. I mean, I'm not a fan but I wouldn't change the channel if Before He Cheats or something came up. But I'd change the channel if this was playing. Blah... Someone needs to do a total revamp of the music before that's ever gonna be any good.
The Sonohra version is the only one that sheds some of the treacly awfulness of the song. It still sounds terrible, but it's not as terrible as some of the others.
I voted Meh. Because, really, that's what it is. I was hoping for something a little more... emotionally grabbing. I mean, the songs from the other movies made me cry... Can't Take It In, The Call... I was hoping for another song like that!
