I'm not sure if this has been talked about before, but I'd like to put the spotlight on the other major release opening along with the Dawn Treader, "The Tourist" with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp.
Even though Prince Caspian wasn't able to continue with number one in the box office it still opened with it and Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe was extremely financially successful.
My question is not how much many will be made, but rather what position in the box office it will receive with such a threatening star powered cast.
I know the films of are two different genres but the Tourist has been hotly anticipated. Tangled and Megamind are the kid movie competition and I believe Tangled is growing stronger as the weeks pass, possibly taking over the number one spot bumping harry potter out.

yup, it's been mentioned in this thread: http://forum.narniaweb.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=837
Narnia should still come out on top though, I expect. The Tourist, unless I'm mistaken, hasn't really had much talk.
Star power isn't, well, as powerful as it used to be. That's the general consensus these days. Russel Crowe and Liam Neeson starred in 'The Next Three Days,' and that film hasn't gone anywhere financially. I think films that seek to be an event are more likely to gain an audience. Mainly because the to-dvd wait has been shortened, so people figure they can just get watch it on dvd if they don't want to spend the time or money on going to a theater for a medium or low event film.
There are exceptions, of course. Will Smith is still considered the biggest box-office draw. He's never made a movie that was an outright flop. For actors like Johnny Depp....eh, it depends on what he's starring in. His team-up with Tim Burton is financial gold, but Public Enemies was a medium-level hit. I suspect directors are bigger factors in the public deciding which film to see. Christopher Nolan is the factor that drove the initial build-up to Inception, not any of its stars. The movie made stars as much as it starred stars.

Well, Tourist is expected to get 2,500 theaters while Narnia is going to get around 3,500. So that should tell you something right there.
Also, Sony is not letting critics review the film until the day before it is released. That is a very bad sign, and makes me think it is going to be a pretty poor film.
But we'll see.
Even if it does well, I don't think it will hurt Narnia that much.
Check out "The Magician's Nephew" and "The Last Battle" trailers I created!

Since we already have a thread titled Dawn Treader Competition for this subject, the one narnian1 linked to, I'm going to close this now. Continue the discussion there.
