The visuals in the Silver Chair are so important. You have the giants, the owls, the whole underworld sequence. I don't think they can do the movie justice on 100 million. 140 million would be about right. It's better to stop the movies while the visual quality still measure up to the first 3. The reason they were able to cut the effects budget so much for VDT was because the story didn't require as many special effects. No big battles, not as many animals to render, etc. Also the fact they filmed in way less locations. However, they have to get the visuals in SC right, or it will fail horribly.
I actually think The Silver Chair could be the easiest of all the Narnia films, to make on a smaller budget. For a lot of the film you just have to deal with all human characters. The scenes between Jill, Eustace, Puddleglum, LOTGK, and Rilian, should be relatively inexpensive to film. Also, it will be easier to make the underground people and locations look realistic without putting a lot of time and money into it. This would be due to the fact that things automatically look better in dimly lit areas so you can get away with a lot more.
They already have Aslan. Pretty much the only thing left would be to model and animate the owls, which once again, you only see them at night.
So yeah, I don't think it will be a problem. The only way it would be is if they try to make the story more epic than it is in the book. (Like including a battle at the end).
Now concerning The Hobbit. Personally, I think it would have a huge affect on TSC. The fact that they are "cousin" stories doesn't really help Narnia IMO, in fact I think it would hurt it since many people who would likely choose to go see Narnia would go see The Hobbit instead.
Just taking my family for example. If TSC came out in December 2012 we would probably go see both films once, rather than see Narnia twice (which we would probably do if there wasn't another film we wanted to see as well)

Yeah, I think they should release Silver Chair either 2 weeks before the Hobbit or 2 weeks after.
I believe the weekend of the 24th of November 2012 would work very well. It is a full 3 weekends before the Hobbit. I believe Twilight is a week or 2 before, however they are going after a different demographic. Also Twilight is usually front loaded. That release would give SC time to prosper, and still enjoy decent Christmas legs.
Personally, I'd vot for November 25th (sounds nicer somehow for me ) or 30th, or any day between those two, just to make sure there is some loose time after other major premieres and to have the non-fan audience stream to see it because it would be one of the largest productions of the year, family movie, and screening after a bit of a longer break in between big productions, so that people would want to see something big even more. And, as Tarquin said, it would also give them decent Christmas viewing
I've seen the movie 9 times!!! (PC)
I've seen the movie 7 times!!! (VoDT) And loved it!

I'm not sure when, but at this point... my feeling is that another Narnia movie will probably be green-lit.
But I am not so sure it will be The Silver Chair. Because of VDT's box office, I think the production may lean more towards doing The Magician's Nephew. I think they would feel better about trying to market a "LWW prequel" than a "VDT sequel."
Apart from having screenwriters who don't like or understand the books, the problem with doing MN next is that it needs a huge budget in order to be done right. And it's not going to get one.
I don't want them to do magician's Nephew next. Reason being it's a great story to back up LB so i'd rather MN came out before LB.
I loved what Ben barnes had to say about the producers ideas for SC that was discussed at the premieres after party. Bring on SC!!!!
Long Live King Caspian & Queen Liliandil Forever!
Jill+Tirian! Let there be Jilrian!
I like the idea of SC being released the weekend of November 24/25

They write the script before they greenlight it, correct?
If so I say they could be working on the script right now and then when they get the totals they can greenlight it, probably mid June or July. With the way they have been going I would not be surprised if we did not have it until 2013.
DamsalJillPole, where is the ideas for SC stuff?

I think they do a pre-treatment script and then they greenlight and then they later finalize a more substantial shooting script, at least that’s what they did with LWW according to the movie companion book I have on LWW.

I was one of the few people who wanted Magicians Nephew to be the next movie, so would be excited if it was green-lit next! Unfortunately, it would require a rather large budget, but I would also imagine that it would require a lot of green screen sequences. Don't really know if studio shooting in CGI or on-location shooting is more expensive.

Do you think people would see the Silver Chair even if the Pevensies are not in it? Many comments from people on Youtube say that they hate Eustace and wouldn't want to see a movie about him.
People will still go see SC if it is good and has a good buzz about it (even if the Pevensies aren't in it). I think more people loved Eustace across the board than hated him. Can't trust all of those You Tube commenters, some people there intentionally say things to incite or inflame.

SilverSea, that's awful! I would have thought they would have loved Eustace (or at least Will Poulter's acting.) I think that the Pevensies have a certain charm about them, which I think partially comes from the fact that they are a whole family. I understand that.
But at the same time there are so many more interesting characters in the stories. As much as I love the Pevensies, I think it would be a shame if people didn't see the other movies because they aren't in it.
I am pretty hopeful that SC will get greenlit at this point. My true worries are for the rest of the Chronicles. I am dying to see HHB!
I wonder if they already have a large amount of the SC script done. It seems VDT is setting up SC. Therefore I think that they at least have a good idea about what direction the want to go in for the next movie.

My guess would be for green-lighting somewhere between May and July. Looking at the release dates of other films, I might have to say either June 2013 (despite PC's release date) or early November 2013 - kind of tough to place with The Hobbit and all.
I can't see them doing MN next, since they seem to have been setting up for SC, and Eustace would be too old for SC if they put in MN in between. As far as budget is concerned, I think they could do it between $100-120 million with some effort.

I run the risk of sounding like a broken record. Please don't fall asleep on me , but I see so many conversations on movie Eustace that don't seem to take this into account at all. Will Poulter is *already* way too old to play book Eustace. Whether they start filming this year or 4 or 5 years from now, they will have to age the character up dramatically to be a high schooler (or whatever they called them in those days). Since 20-somethings play high schoolers all the time, they can start filming SC any time within the next 5 years. Another alternative would be to replace Will with a much younger actor, in which case, they can film the movie whenever. Either way, they could fit another movie in next. Not sure which it would be though. It could be HHB or MN, to my way of thinking. My vote's for HHB.
I do agree that, with some economizing, they should be able to film SC with a much smaller budget. Almost every shot in VDT had CGI effects, whereas a lot of SC is just the three leads traipsing through the country side. Even at Harfarg, they only need special effects when the giants and the leads are in the same shot. With some crafty camera work, they can significantly reduce the need for those shots, without effecting the quality of the movie. The one part where they can't scrimp is the battle with the green lady at the end. That was the only really bad part of the BBC SC. It looked like Rilian was taking out his rage issues on a plastic gag snake. "Alright! I'm sick of these dumb practical jokes! Sick I tell you!"
Then again, HHB could also be filmed with a smaller budget for similar reasons.
