I'm rereading Silver Chair and I would very much like to see the night time council with the owls filmed, i.e. Glimfeather. I also would love to see the Underground City....especially when they are confronted with a large dwarf population. That would be a cool scene.

It would be nice to cast some Shakespearean British actors in the roles of Old Caspian and Liliandil. We managed to get Jim Broadbent for Prof. Kirk. I say Narnia should take it one further. We may not be able to afford A-list actors for the main roles, but we don't really need to. But it's nice to have some prestige backing you up :D .

On rating: It will be a difficult push to keep it PG, but I think we need to keep most of the Narnia films family-friendly. The serpent scene will just have to be watered down maybe the tiniest bit. I think that in terms of intensity and scariness, it could be on par with the Sea Serpent scene in VoDT and still be fine (that scene was pretty scary for small kids, and it was PG in America).

On Rilian: I have no idea. I hope they get someone like Ben. A young, talented actor with experience but not fame. He needn't necessarily look like Ben. I wouldn't mind Orlando Bloom, except that he's already taken two very 'definining' roles; Legolas (LoTR) and Will Turner (PoTC). I'd prefer to have an actor yet undefined.

And for Puddleglum! I like the idea of Alan Rickman, and I think he could do it, plus he'd add some star power, but I'm not sure about how much his salary would take out of the budget. Absolutely NO Johnny Depp, thank you. I just hope they take this character seriously and really cast him well, instead of haphazardly giving it off to whatever actor. A miscast Puddleglum spells a failure for SC. At the end of the journey, it is Puddleglum who is the hero, not Rilian, the kids, or even Aslan (*gasp!*).

On a director; Here we go again. Not Apted. He has no vision. He has no plans for a continuous Narnia series, he disrespects Lewis himself. No way do I want that man back for another Narnia film. Adamson, by comparison, had vision, had a mental image of Narnia held there since he was 8 years old, one he drew on to create the films. And yes, at times, he had a bit too much vision, but that can be forgiven. For SC, we need another director with vision, someone who really understands Narnia, and respects both the series and Lewis himself; a director with that kind of respect coupled with vision would be true to the series while making just the right book-to-film changes. It's the balance between faithfulness and change that a director has to really get...and I can't really think of any directors who have that. :( I guess I'll have to keep looking...

I feel the need to speak on Johnny Depp's behave. He is a good actor, probably my favourite, but he has surprisingly been in some pretty subpar movies recently. Anyone who has gone to see movies like The Tourist, Alice in Wonderland, Spongebob (TV show, but you know what I mean), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and even Pirates of the Caribbean and think you know wh Johnny Depp is, you are sorely mistaken. Johnny Depp has the potential to play truly great characters. If you don't believe me try watching Sweeney Todd, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Edward Scissorhands or Finding Neverland and see if you change your mind.

That said, I'm not saying I'm sold on Johnny Depp as Puddleglum. But it's because I'm not sure he's the right actor for Puddleglum, not that he's incapable of doing a serious and compelling performance. The strongest case for him as Puddleglum, though, would be Sweeney Todd- and you said he clouldn't play gloomy. ;)

ChristProclaimer, I totally agree on your views of Adamson and Apted.

ChristProclaimer, I totally agree on your views of Adamson and Apted.

I've seen Finding Neverland. It was a fine performance, and I know it was nominated for an academy award, but it wasn't exactly brilliant. You never truly forget it's Johnny Depp. With his other roles, esp. with Edward Scissorhands and Sweeney Todd, they are echt-Depp roles. He puts on the costume and parades around, but nobody still forgets it's Johnny Depp.

Puddleglum is a role, I feel, in which the actor needs to let the character come alive. It's not a matter of Depp being able to play somber and gloom. My argument previously was that Dep infuses a lot of his characters with quirkiness---and that this was wrongly the characteristics people were looking for in an actor to play Puddleglum. "Who could play him? Oh! Puddleglum has dreadlocks and is a funny character. Johnny Depp is funny when he plays Jack Sparrow who also has dreadlocks. Ergo, Johnny Depp should play Puddleglum."

I would also prefer an actor who wouldn't have to fake a British accent.

Things Fox needs to know about Narnia:

-By their content in order to work all Narnia movies need to be at least 2 hours and 15 minutes long. Really SC should be 2hrs and 20 minutes or longer. To shorten it for cost concerns makes no sense because few people want to see an overly cut and rushed movie. VDT prbably would be earning twice as much if it had that extra 15 minutes. You're better of investing that little extra for long term success, however this doesn't require you to create an enormous budget, 225 million is too much, 200 million should be the upper limit, but 155 million is also to little, 180 is much better.

-And digital cameras and cgi scales do not mix, so unless you want to bring in a real boomslang (bad idea! Do NOT do it!!!) then please don't use digital cameras for this movie.

-and stop overcorrecting!

Yeah, I really agree about length. Heck, I don't think 2 hrs 35 mins is too much to ask. I wouldn't mind a full 3 hrs.

What's boomslang?

What's boomslang?

An extremely venemous (and green) snake.

I don't know why but I always pictures the serpent as either a boomslang or a type of green tree viper

I agree! I love long movies! Make it as long as necessary to make the film succeed with flying colors!

Clive Staples Sibelius, I can always imerse myself in Depp's characters without thinking it's him, but I can see why that would be a problem for some people. Again, I'm not saying Johnny Depp is the right choice for Puddleglum, I'm just defending his credibility as an actor. There have been comments on this thread saying he can only do comedy and is incapable of emotional characters. I beg to differ! [-(

IDK, but I have a feeling they should cast a US girl for the part of Jill. Maybe she could be bullied for not having the accent, or for being from the USA. That would cool to give USA girls a chance for their dreams to come true!

I would prefer SC to have a better composer. David Arnold's score was a bit bland at some parts and really destroyed the tone of the scenes for me. :(
