Too True Warrior 4 Jesus, every one sees characters a different way in their heads... and sometimes when you share your opinions others realise that they have the same opinions as others, or sometimes they have different opinions. If Silver Chair is made then the person they cast will no doubt be great, and they arn't going to look how EVERYONE imagined, but it doesn't matter...its good to have different opinions. It makes conversation better.

Seriously, just give the kid the orange. He needs his vitamin C!
Ok.... we need a young Bill Nighy + Ben C with a different voice + sad/ slightly accidentally comical....
If anyone has seen "My Family" they will know that Kris Marshall (Nick) is the clown star of the show... but I think he has the has the potential to pull off the Puddleglum I picture...
But a close second is Ben C, he is AMAZING as Frankenstein (highly recommend you see it!)
both are talented actors, and are able to change comedy to tear provoking sadness in seconds...
Kris Marshal from Love actually? Never pictured him as a Puddleglum but he is a great actor so i think he could pull it off. make up/ costume etc would help a lot.

Really? I think Benedict would be perfect for Puddleglum - voice, physique, acting abilities, demenour. He could easily pull it off. Are you telling me you didn't laugh at his dry humour in 'Sherlock'?
Agreed that Cumberbatch is great at dry humour, but Puddleglum isn't dry at all. Part of his comedy is that he genuinely believes that he's "looking on the bright side." My main problem with Cumberbatch's voice and carriage is that he's just too posh. Puddleglum should be more homespun.
I agree with him being homespun. In the BBC and the Focus on the Family audiobooks of Silver Chair I've listened to the voice actor for Puddleglum does surely sound like he has an English country accent. Someone suggested Bruce Spence on the Puddleglum casting thread and I think he'd fit. Even if he's reused, his face really wasn't seen that well in VDT due to all that long hair and beard. And he's tall.

I haven't seen the film STILL so depending on his involvement and with the use of prosthetics he could become a new character easily!
Sorry, but what is "homespun"
"Homespun" means country folk sounding....not city/sophisticated sounding. Like Puddleglum's/country persons' clothes are made naturally, hence "homespun"....his voice would be too.

But Spence is so profoundly uncharismatic. Charisma is a critically important quality in a major character in a feature film. It's not enough to look the part or act well (i.e. connect with the character), the actor must also have that certain something that draws people to them, and makes audiences care what happens to that character. Spence could only work as a supporting character.
I haven't really seen Mr. Spence in anything other than VDT. I was going by his looks. What about someone like Hugh Laurie? They could uglify him. Or maybe it'll be someone just unknown that's a good character actor that we've never heard of before.

Hum...Hugh Laurie is AWESOME and an amazing actor, but I think that he is too well known and recognisable... I don't know about a new actor, it would be great if they did that but i don't know. (I'm still rooting for Nighy )

Hugh Laurie is a talented actor with charisma galore. I think he would make an interesting choice for Puddleglum. Not sure about the "recognizable" factor. A recognizable actor wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. If you mean that too many people might automatically associate him with Dr. House, I suppose that's possible. . . .
Is there an equivalent of a British Ray Bolger type of actor? Because I sort of envision Puddleglum as being like the Scarecrow from Oz with his odd sort of looks. I always think of Bertie Wooster when I think of Hugh Laurie, not necessarily House.

GOOD LUCK!!

Ray Bolger would have been a fantastic Puddleglum! Why do marshwiggles even need to have British accents?
