Digory definitely would not start out as the new headmaster because if it is really three months since VDT, the Professor would have still been tutoring Peter...if we're being book canon about this.

No, I don't think we'll see the head at all being shown at the beginning of Eustace's and Jill's experiences at Experiment House. Bullies tend to get away with a lot more when there is no proper supervision of children in the playground, and no rules laid down on acceptable behaviour. That was the problem with the old Head.
And as stateofgreen says, there is the question of the time lag after VDT, when the Professor was tutoring Peter. But I can't remember if it was mentioned where Peter was in VDT the film, let alone the Professor's financial status and why he couldn't have them all to stay.
That's utterly mad and absolutely brilliant ! I can't decide which feeling is over ruling the other just now but that would seem to be an extrodinary coincidence and if the movie lasted a little longer could be hilarious as he has never met Eustace and Jill, it would be a "You know him?" "How do you know him?" moment.
It is just a feeling, I got from discussions on this thread in the light of the ending of the VDT film. I think it would be no more than a nudge, nudge, wink, wink moment to hint at the next movie to be considered. If it were true then it really would be a coincidence. But I hadn't seen those possibilities either.
I think that is a cool idea! I don't think they'de use it because it is a bit randon to connect the two people but it would be great. Especially as the Professor had an understanding of narnia which he probably discussed with the Pevensies...he could be talkning to Jill and Eustace and the end, or giving a wink or wry smile or something...
o.k I've going a bit crazy now but good idea, it COULD work i guess!
Narnia is childhood...
Seriously, just give the kid the orange. He needs his vitamin C!
I wasn't critisising it is a good idea it just came slightly out of the blue, I like it really and anyway with Narnia anything can happen, coincedences especially.

So I had a tomato-hurling thought...so we know that the Caspian-Lilliandil romance is only barely hinted at on VDT. So how about some kind of flashback sequence where Caspian courts and falls in love with Lilliandil. Then, with a love story developed, they could have Caspian united with Lilliandil in Aslan's Country at the end of movie when Caspian is reawakened in the riverbed. If executed well, this could be really beautiful.
Well, my tomatoes are otherwise occupied (in a blue cheese and Virginia Ham sandwich ), so I'll modify your suggestion. In the books, we learn a little something about Liliandil in VDT, she has poise, a good portion of her father's wisdom, and a subtle sense of humour. In the movie, her blink-and-you-miss-her appearance does not allow us to connect to her at all. I think it would be a good idea to develop her a bit more in SC, so we can relate to Caspian and Rilian better.
So here's my suggestion: Start out the movie with a beautiful, whimsical coronation scene. Liliandil is proclaimed queen of Narnia. If it's done right it can really start the movie with a bang. Play up the fairytale aspect rather than the overdone, dreary pomp that we saw in PC. Then, as music plays and the opening credits role, we sea a series of mini-scenes from Caspian and Liliandil's married life together. Moments alone, the two of them presiding at functions, their years of longing for a child, the day a slightly-gray-haired Caspian first holds his son in his arms, Liliandil playing with Rilian, Caspian reading little Rilian a picture-book about a sulky-faced boy who turns into a dragon, etc. etc. Then, as the credits end, cut to 1940s England . . .
I like your idea of Liliandil and Caspian reuniting in Aslan's country. That would accentuate the joy of the moment.
Corazon and Anhun those are really sweet ideas that seem heavily influenced by Valentine's Day! (or not). Anyway I like all of Anhun's flashback ideas (picturebook idea is cute, ha!). That would possibly reduce how much flashbacking they might have to do during the parliament of owls scene? The way the BBC SC did it....the owls did all of the telling of the backstory of Rilian going off to search for the serpent and Liliandil getting killed IIRC....while Eustace and Jill's eyes were closed. That device seemed to work well.

More Scotland for you. I think Underland should be filmed, at least partly, in Fingal's Cave:
Wow. I confess to never having seen Fingal's Cave before, except imagined it in Mendelssohn's brilliant musical depiction.
Yeah, that's Underland.

Wait, what angle do we look at that photo from? Straight on, from above, upside down? I'm confused. But it really looks like Underland. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, that's absolutely fantastic. I wonder if they could actually film in a cave? Has anyone done that before?
Yes I agree. That is just one fantastic shot. I wish I went there myself, but didn't have the time.
I've been near there, to the island of Iona. There is this place on Mull called Fionnphort where you catch the ferry to both places. In 1997 it was a sleepy little village where one or two sheep wandered into the post office, and a trio of cows were sunbathing on the beach below. Seeing as you have to catch a ferry to get there I should imagine that Fingal's cave would be perfect to show Underland where they catch the ferry.
In my mind, I hope they get a new writer for the screenplay, and go back to the director of the original two films.
I hope they go for a much darker tone, but stay closer to the books. They should probably give it a few years, so the actors can become older in order to better suit the roles.

Lol, I know, it looks like something M.C. Escher would have designed. It doesn't help that the ceiling of the cave looks kind of like a staircase.
Bookwyrm, you have a point. Filming in a cave might be difficult. Maybe they should send a crew to film some shots there, and have the more involved scenes filmed using a studio replica.
Sibelius, do you think they could use elements of Mendelssohn's music in the film? I personally think the filmmakers need to get off the "epic" band wagon and create these films as fairy tales, the way they were written. Now SC is a dark fairy tale and I think The Hebrides captures that spirit. When I listen to it, I hear themes of hope, torment, and enchantment. Oh well, probably not going to happen . . .
Hmm... Interesting. Thanks, I was thinking M.C. Escher as well. Filming in a cave would probably be too difficult but what about using Weta Workshop? They could create excellent replicas of the caves in the form of Big-atures (big minatures) - like they did for Lord of the Rings. Either way, that cave is fantastic and I'm all for them filming The Silver Chair in the best that Scotland has to offer.

Ok, I remember posting somewhere, that there may have been a scintinfic innaccuraccy when the serpent/LotGK is killed, but I can't find that post... however I am taking back that comment because I forgot about this line:
With repeated blows they hacked off its head. The horrible thing went on coiling and moving like a bit of wire long after it had died; and the floor, as you may imagine, was a nasty mess.
(emphasis added)
So yeah I was wrong. Lewis apparently did his research... (I will refrain from linking to a video of this for the sake of younger members, but this is what happens if you kill a snake in this way...) This presents a new problem though, because now its not just the beheading of the serpent that would make this a PG-13 scene, but in order to be both scientifically accurate and true to the book, the snake has to keep moving after its killed. So what should they do about this? Leave it as is and stay true to the book? Just not show the dead snake? Be innacurate and show a still/ non-moving dead snake?
