I can't wait for the underground cave, especially the lake. I hope it looks interesting yet spooky!
I aslo hope the scale of Harfang will be believable, but also fun. I love the giant doll that Jill sees. The book is aslo a magnificent element. There will be fun stuff there, I'm sure!
Yes, the underground cave should bring to mind the River Styx, from Greek mythology.

A NW member, Anhun, posted a link to a great photo of a Scottish landscape that brings to mind The Silver Chair.
Here it is:
Me like. I can so imagine Puddleglum being found fishing in a setting like this.

Scotland is a good place for them to shout because it would be cheap and it fits the story
watch me on youtube doing narnia monologues

I don't know about cheap but it would probably be a cheaper place to shoot.
Stateofgreen, that's not actually the scene at which I was hinting. I thought the location would be better for a latter part of the journey. The children meet Puddleglum in the marshlands. That landscape is markedly different to marshes. Remember Puddleglum is a MARSHwiggle.
Everyone,
Did Rilian have a beard? The book illustrations show a clean-shaven man but the BBC series shows him as having a beard. To complicate things, I can't find any mentioning of it being either way in the book.
Finally, he wears a Hamlet-like costume but what exactly was Lewis suggesting? There are many variations of Hamlet's costume. Any help would be great. Thanks

I just thought of something.
In case they cannot get away with someone puncturing Aslan's paw with an object, they can always make Aslan just cry and the tears revive Caspian in Aslan's country. I would not be upset in the least bit, and it would not affect the plot and big message in any way.
I would mind, that's very cliched. At least with the blood there's that deep Christian symbolism and it's slightly surprising.

But think of the children! They might see blood and be so disturbed that they grow up to be serial killers!

I hope you are being sarcastic.
After the abomination of the Undragoning scene in Voyage of the Dawn Treader, I never again want the filmakers to tone down the spiritual themes to keep a PG rating. Blood should flow into the river. It isnt disgusting. Its one of the most moving parts of the Silver Chair book. They better not remove it.
And as for the Silver Chair using Irish/Scottish accents and being filmed in scottland...this isnt actually a bad idea.
Part of the reason I wanted James Horner to score this movie is because I loved the Scottish/Irish music that he created for Braveheart and Titanic.
Winter Is Coming
Ha-ha. I'm 95% sure Bookwyrm is joking. If I was under eight years old, I really don't think I would mind a literal adaptation of that scene. I guess other kids might be different, but it isn't really a violent scene...

After I typed that I noticed my error about the pic not being marshy. It'd still be a pretty setting to fish at though maybe for another scene later from the book as you say. I wonder where they could film the marsh scene? Maybe an in-studio type of shot with blue screen?

I was looking this over in the book the other night and I don't think Rilian has a beard... Lewis described him this way--"He was dressed in black and looked a little like Hamlet"...My preference is that he's beardless. Pauline Baynes draws him as such.

No worries, mate. Thanks.
What have you got against beards? But seriously, I agree. Prince Rilian looks a bit silly with a beard in the BBC version, once he removes his mask. Thanks, I think I'll draw him sans-beard. Still struggling to come up with the look of the silver chair. I'm thinking something serpentine without being cheesy. Something all sharp-edges and skeletal in structure.

Actually I like beards on persons when the beards suit them, just not on Prince Rilian. I was looking at the link that Icarus posted on another section of NW to Alan Spalding's website (he was the production designer for the BBC Silver Chair). His design looks pretty skeletal.

Rilian with a beard? I agree the beard in BBC looked very funny, but if Rilian's father Caspian in VDT looked great with a beard (or so I think ), it could work for him. But I like no beards a bit better.
Alan's design did look very skeletal, and I think that's a great way to design the castle. But I hope it's a bit greener if they do it that way.
I hope they do a great job on Glimfeather. Seeing a Narnia Snowy Owl would be sweet!
They can have Rilian have a bit of a beard.
Now that I think about it, most of the sailors in the Dawn Treader movie had facial hair. Drinian probably had alopecia (except for his eyebrows and eyelashes). And Rhince had shaved more recently since he had joined more recently. They probably did not have such good access to razors. And Edmund probably was not quite at that stage of development yet. Hence a possible reason why Caspian had facial hair in the VDT movie.
I usually like clean-shaven guys, but Caspian still looked great in the VDT movie I still like him better clean-shaven. And I like his hair length. Not into macho men here.
