Does anybody think (if they make the Silver Chair), that they will keep Caspian's visit in our world and how he beats and teases the bullies with his sword? When i read the book, i always thought, this is something they'll cut.

^I guess I don't have any way to prove my point yet, but I think they would keep this in the final film. We don't get to see much of Narnians in our world, and I like how the bullies get punished after all the horrid things they did. This is a really cool part of the book, and even if we didn't hear about Caspian's dream to see our world in VDT, I think it would still make sense in SC. And finally, this is a great time for Eustace and Jill to be able to fight back the gang. So yeah, I bet this'll somehow still be in the movie. ;)

I wouldn't call it 'teasing'. There is no indication that Jill, Eustace, or Caspian get any pleasure out of it
Even if Jill and Eustace did get pleasure out of it (which is certainly believable), the point of the scene isn't revenge, it's a just punishment sanctioned by Aslan.

Poking my mod head in here to clarify and link two ideas before we drop this bit and go back to the topic:

I'm not terribly qualified to engage in some sort of debate over accent terminology, but the UK is comprised of four different countries with a wide variety of accents that differ heavily from one another..... Believe me, I've seen Shantih and Jints talk about this often enough to know that it is something people from the UK can be prickly about. Shantih actually discussed it a few pages back in the Ask a Brit! thread in the Spare Oom.

Wagga is giving a wider version of what Shantih and Jints talked about there.

1. On a simpler level, it's helpful to explain to non-UK people that most people in England do not call themselves or their speech "British".
[Technically speaking, if it is their first language it should be described as a dialect. An accent refers to someone whose first language is a different one eg speaking English with a French accent].
We regularly explain this to Americans and others who talk about "the British accent" or "I can do a/the British accent therefore I want to audition for x".

Jill needs to have the british/english accent. ... do casting in the US and UK for a british/english girl, or even american, that can do the british/english accent perfectly

2. But on a wider scale, there are dozens of British dialects of English, across all parts of the UK and Ireland. (there are also lots of dialects of it in former British Colonies including Australia and NZ where Wagga and I live, respectively).
In this context it's okay to refer to "British accents", or to "a British accent" as meaning one of the many that exist.
(and yes, I am qualified to talk about this :) )

Back to the topic...

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."

It's no doubt that Jill needs to be British. It gives a lot more authenticity.

It would be amazing if Puddleglum was Scottish! Wasn't Jack's gardener that Puddleglum was based on Scottish too? That would be a great homage! :)

I could see Puddleglum with an Irish accent but a Scottish accent would be a bit much.

Concerning the silver chair - what would it physically look like? Lewis' description is very sparse. Cruel, curious, evil-looking and silver. That's about it! I noticed that Pauline Baynes' illustration of Rilian strapped into the chair, shows that his neck was also bound to the great object of sorcery, but in the tex there is no mentioning of this happening. Never-mind, in this case, the illustration makes the chair seem that much more suffocating.

I'd rather Puddleglum have just a British accent. For those viewers who have trouble understanding dialogue with just the regular British accent to understand him with a regional dialect accent might be a bit much, but everyone is different. If the regional dialect accent were light enough to make out the dialogue I suppose it'd be okay.

I'm not sure about specifics, but I like you're description of it cruel, curious, evil-looking and silver. That about nails it. B-)

I know your post was about the chair itself, but I'll give my two-cents about what the general look of the film would be if I was directing. Because hopelessness is such an important them in the book, I would make most of the movie overcast and dreary with a few exceptions. Experiment House, the marshes, and the Giant's countryland should all be like this.

Obviously, Aslan's Country shouldn't be dreary, but this is so close to the beginning that I don't think it will interfere with the mood. Cair Paravel should add a little colour but not too much because of the situation with Caspian and Rilian. Actually I think it would be neat if things were slightly more colourful when Jill's on screen than Eustace, because her experience at Cair Paravel are positive and Eustace's are negative. The snow dance at the end should be bursting with colour because hopelessness has been defeated.

As for Underland, I really have no idea how I would do it. The important thing is that it has to be significantly more hopeless than anything else in the film- rock bottom.

Reepicheep, thanks. The only problem is what does a 'curious' chair actually look like? I want to do a fan art piece of this scene, that's why I'm asking. I really love your suggestions as to the direction of the film. Thanks for sharing!

JillPoleFan, that could work very nicely but if it's more affordable parts of New Zealand (not seen in LotR) would suffice.

Thanks for that, Warrior. :) It did remind me of SC. I think the landscapes and sets are going to be very important in SC. :

Harfang, inside and out
The Tower of the Parliament of Owls
Cair Paravel itself inside and out
Sea Port City of Underland
Rilian's Room and so forth...

Very important to the atmosphere of this particular story, IMHO. :)

As for props, no doubt The Silver Chair itself will be the most important. Some kind of quality of enchantment is all I can think of its having at the moment. (Whatever that is visually, others can come up with in a rendering perhaps?) B-) :D
