[Closed] The Most Noble Contradiction

Coracle, MountainFireflower, DamselJillPole, I'm sorry, I thought everyone would recognize "most noble contradicton." Again sorry I confused everybody.

I guess I connect with Caspian, because I can identify with the feeling of insecurity.
I can see how "most noble contradiction" can be taken for pride. But the way I take it is like defeating the worst things about yourself. I have respect for the shy people, that can overcome it, to make a speech, or the drunk who can "throw away the bottle." They contradict themselves, and like someone else said, most of all "the sinner saved by grace."

Loved that scene from the beginning but now, thanks to your take on it, I love it even more :) Your view on it is quite profound :)

Amat, I never thought of that. You've totally gone and seen the meaning behind the scene. Well done! I'll shall from now watch the scene in a new light.

I actually came to that view from someone else, so I don't take credit, from a lovely blog about that scene. It's a view that I completely agree with though, I think we should all try to be that, like Cornelius says. :)

Okay while these are good points Coracle I would have rather seen a scene of them bonding as his professor instead of opening up with a screaming mother that sounds like road kill giving birth to a baby. They should have concentrated on going down to Caspian and Cornelius looking at the stars and then have them walk off then pan to the birth of Caspian's cousin. It would of made sense if we the audience was introduced to the hero first and his tutor.

True. I would have been happy to see them up looking at the stars (to show their tutor/pupil relationship), but Andrew seems to like surprise opening scenes, and by not disclosing who the cloaked figure going into Caspian's room was, it added to the initial tension.
Caspian's life as a Telmarine wasn't really shown overtly; we had to infer it from the life his uncle and the other lords were living. His learning under Cornelius was clearly done in secret, and this is disclosed gradually through the film. He didn't even know that Cornelius was half dwarf (although having a smaller actor would have helped!) until the 'noble contradiction' scene.

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."

I think that scene was awesome! every time I see it and he says "You have the chance to become the most noble contradiction in history. the Telmarine who saved Narnia." I get a tingle up my spine :D

Oooh I know, goosebumps. It's such a cool idea, because it just shouldn't be.

I agree Movie Aristotle, that scene fell flat for me as well. We never really got to connect to how the Narnian's were really picked on by the Telmarines, at least I didn't connect at all (and I was trying!!). So that scene did not do what it was trying to do. To connect, really, we probably should have seen Caspian's childhood, and how the Temarines really lived day to day.
The good guys were not relatable and the bad guys were unbelievable.

Glenstorm, Liberty, thanks, but again I can't take credit. :)

Shy Galadriel, but that's just it, not all the Telmarines were the bad guys, like Caspian. He couldn't help that he was born a Telmarine. I think the real bad guys were Miraz and Sopesian (I can't remember how it's spelt.)
It was obvious that the Narnians were persecuted (Trumpkin's scene in Telmarine castle)

It connected for me because Caspian was a victim too. And plus it's heartwarming that Aslan would pick someone not of his own nation. Like someone else says that's what makes the contradiction so great.

I LOVED this scene! Dr. Cornelius is my favorite character of the Chronicles (wierd, I know) and I was by this point in the film starting to be afraid he wouldn't get any good scenes, and all his hard work, his devotion, his faith, would go overlooked in the film.

Okay, so it was a little off here and there ('It was only because I believed in you...?' Come on!). But I do still love the scene, particularly the line about the 'Most noble contradiction in history."

I sort of agree with Shy Galadriel. The bad guys weren't really believable because I didn't feel very threatened by Miraz at all. It seems as if the dark secret about some of the Telmarines is that they'll stab you in the back one by one. Maybe that is why the Narnian's went into hiding. IDK.
