Do you remember that Lewis described the most exiting moment of the whole voyage as being when the birds come flying from the sun and they finally realize that they are at the end of the world. From what I have seen of what they have done so far really has me wondering how/if they will make it most exiting moment. I think that they definitely could. The music would have to be very heartwarming, beautiful, and mysterious all at the same time for it to truly capture it.
Do you think they will make this the most exiting moment? How do you view this scene and how could you translate it into the most exiting moment? Would you even make it the most exiting moment?

The music would definitely play a role in the scene. I’m not sure if everyone will see it as the most exiting scene, but I do think it will definitely be one of the most beautiful scenes visually in the film if they pull it off right.
I think Lewis said that this was the most exiting scene for those on the voyage because it was one of the first things that they saw that really made them realize they were nearing the world's end, I think it could be a really beautiful scene in the film if you get that same sense, that your nearing something no one has ever seen before. Just my thought though.
The Value of myth is that it takes all the things you know and restores to them the rich significance which has been hidden by the veil of familiarity. C.S. Lewis
Right. It should be like when, in City of Ember, the kinds see the opening and realize that they accomplished what they had set out to do, which was to find a way out of Ember.

Ironically, this isn't the most exciting moment to me, and nor would I make it the most exciting moment. If it was me, I would begin to build the excitement here, but the most exciting moment to me is when Reepicheep at last arrives at his destination and Lucy hugs him and he's quivering with excitement.
So in other words you are saying that it should be the beginning of the most exiting moments. I can totally see that. That would work incredibly well however how would you sustain the excitement?

I agree with fantasia-kitty, it should be the beginning moment of the excitement. The climax would come as Reepicheep sails over the wave at the edge of the world.
Music would have a large role in maintaining the excitement, also the location and what sort of cinematography was used. But I think the bulk of it will fall on the actors. We the audience must be able to see the wonder and excitement on their faces. Of course, the actors who are in the movie that I have seen are all really good, so that won't be a problem.
I definitely agree that music and acting is the key to it all. However, In seeing how they made PC epic epic epic epic, I really wonder if they will focus on the beautiful and wonderment side of things. I'm crossing my fingers.

I think this is an excellent example of why adapting Narnia is difficult.
In a book, it's easy to just say "it was the most exciting moment." But in a movie, you have to actually make it seem like the most exciting moment. You can't just hold up a sign that says "it was the most exciting moment."
You can't just hold up a sign that says "it was the most exciting moment."
Or better yet, Reepicheep paddles his coracle around in the lilies so from an overhead shot it spells out "Be EXCITED!"...
In any case, I agree that music, scenery and lighting should be used to the best of their abilities in this scene. I'd also recommend they use real locations and birds instead of green screen & CGI. For a magical moment, the real deal tends to shine (the painting in LWW should be Exhibit A... )
You can't just hold up a sign that says "it was the most exciting moment."
Ha ha, no kidding. I just hope that no one has to hold that sign up in front of the movie makers.

I'm not sure I want them to do it at all. I mean, for them to try to do it, they could very well ruin the movie if they didn't do it exactly right. I mean, how would you act that?
Think about it.
Lucy:Oh! Look, Caspian! We're at the end of the world!
Everyone else: Oh my!.... Simply amazing!.....We made it!
Caspian: Yes, you're right Lucy! Everyone look! We're at the end of the world!
Eustace: Can I go home now?

I think that the best effects for making the end of the world exciting is the lack of speech. It should be too wonderful full for words.

I agree...their expressions should really display the excitement of that moment. I think also the music should build to a climax, and that the lighting should change.

Yes, but then...
Lucy:......................
Narnians:................
Edmund:.........................
Caspian:..........................

How will they make the light so bright though? For Lucy that's what made that moment so exciting that she could look directly into the sun and see every detail of the birds. Maybe they could have the light be very bright(but bearable for the viewer) and have Lucy gaze into it wide-eyed and unwavering.
narnianwarrior, isn't eustace "redeemed" by this time?
I saw the movie....and was disappointed
