11) NO ADDED ROMANCES!!!
What about Uncle Andrew's MN ideas that Jadis might fancy him? Those were definitely in the book, and yes, they could be taken as 'romance' in a comical way.
Well yes and no, by no means should Jadis return the feelings... Its more of a crush than a romance I think, because its only one sided.
"The mountains are calling and I must go, and I will work on while I can, studying incessantly." -John Muir
"Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed." -Richard Adams, Watership Down
I agree with Wolfy about Uncle Andrew having a "crush" on Jadis. She did not return his feelings, although if given the chance, she probably would have pretended to return his feelings to use him (purely speculation on my part:) )
Wrong will be right when Aslan comes in sight / At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more / When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death / And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again
IMDB: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew (2014)
It's currently set to release in 2014, Why does it have to take so long?
People actually believe everything on IMDB? Oy vey!

Don't worry silver- That's probably no where's near official.

There is no way it would come out in 2014. I mean, what would the producers be waiting for? And besides, if it came out in Winter 2014, we'd have to compete with Avatar 2. That wouldn't be pretty.
Lets go SC!
But Winter 2012 or Winter 2013 wouldn't be pretty too (beware of the Hobbit!). Not that I agree that it should be made in 2014 (that would be horrible! ), but I still agree with whoever said that it should be done in the spring. There's dangers of doing it then, but less then if they did it in the winter and the summer. But either way, they need to be careful where they release it, because there's quite a few good-sounding (and bad-sounding) films to come out in the years to come.
I don't know I still feel like spring is rushing it... I'm still voting Thanksgiving 2012

Magician's nephew would be competing against Hobbit 1 & Hobbit 2 in 2012 & 2013, wouldn't it? That wouldn't be pretty either. And one of the reasons why a lot of movies, not just VDT, didn't do so well last Christmas is HPDH1 being out. This is the HP movie which has done better than any of the other HP movies so far in that franchise, except for the first.
You are always going to be up against a blockbuster whichever year it is. Besides they have to get a script written first.
I'm not sure that going up against the Hobbit movies would be such a bad thing. For one thing, there's the Tolkien-Lewis friendship. People who will watch Narnia are definitely going to watch The Hobbit. It's a lot more likely that Narnia will benefit from being under Tolkien's shadow rather than out of it. In any case, it's certainly an easier situation than competing with Harry Potter, whose fans are not the same as Narnia's for the most part.
But really...first they need to make a GOOD movie, THEN worry about "product placement." If the movie is good, people are going to see the movie, as evidenced by the success of LWW (which stayed the closest to its source material). Advertising is important...but first you gotta back it up with quality.
"Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed."- CS Lewis
No matter when MN will be coming out, it will be competing with something somwhere sometime. That's why they need to work especially hard to keep the inborn magic of the series if they want it to survive.
wolfloversk, I love your list!!! Completely Agreed!
About Jadis, that's not romance. Remember, he's an old bachelor. No one said he was in love with the Witch--she was beautiful, and, when she wasn't around to spook the living daylights out of him, he fancied she might be in love with him and reward him like in a Medieval Novel, but that 's not romance!
Good point, Clive Staples Sibelius!!If it's actually a good movie, they won't need to worry about a thing.
One thing they really need for MN is a good script-writer. PC and VDT have too many cheesy lines. And theyre too blunt. MN needs subtelty and mystery...without that...it's a hopeless case.

Sorry, Narnian_Archer, that, sadly enough, is actually 'romance' in somewhat too many cases. You know, mammoth, even criminal self-delusion. It isn't off-topic to point out C.S.Lewis' own MN comment that Uncle Andrew was indulging in a sort of grown-up kind of silliness, propped up with liberal doses of brandy. Besides, I doubt that he was really much older than Digory's own mother.
As for Uncle Andrew, this entirely self-centred and selfish old bachelor has met a woman that for the rest of his life he will dream of as his ideal woman, one whose motivations are entirely after his own black heart. Pity she doesn't have a heart to be concerned about. And yes, I can see a sort of resemblance between Belllatrix administering to the revolting Voldemort in HP, and Uncle Andrew and his 'dem fine woman' reminiscences about Jadis.
I don't think that Uncle Andrew should resemble Bellatrix. I think he is a good deal more comical than that HP character. And I do hope the scriptwriters and the film get his character right.
Uncle Andrew was 60 years old, so he's clearly older than Digory's mum.
Narnian Archer, Uncle Andrew's feelings towards Jadis are nothing like the honourable and chivalrous romances of Medieval novel. It's more like a silly, shallow but intense crush you'd find in any number of daytime soap-operas on TV. Ugh! That's why the whole thing is a lot of fun and so ridiculous. C.S. Lewis is bagging the stuff soap-operas are made of before they even existed!

waggawerewolf27, I guess I never saw it as a "romance". It was just a small part of the book that I skimmed over. I always thought, "silly, old Uncle Andrew, getting all these crazy ideas into his head." I'd be very surprised if they turned it into anything serious in the movie.
Warrior 4 Jesus, What I meant was that the way Uncle Andrew was behaving was similar to someone who has read too many books and spent too much time imagining and thinking that he blows things up in his mind. Of course I understand it's just a silly crush. Sorry if my wording made that unclear.
