Narniafans posted a curious article on the topic:

http://www.narniafans.com/archives/11418

From what I understand, Bill Moore, father of the late Perry Moore, was talking to his son the night before he passed away. Perry was really excited as he was going to begin working on a few projects soon.

Perry Moore told his family he’d secured financing for another Narnia movie, “The Magician’s Nephew.”

Wow. I, for one, did not see this coming. That being said, I am thrilled for the potential. But this leads us with a few more questions.

1. Will the movie still be made now that Perry Moore has passed on?
2. Would a new producer still want to make MN next?
3. What does this mean for a SC adaptation?

From what I understand, the production company thinks MN would be a better fit because it is more popular, and they would earn more money. More money that they could then use to fund for more Narnia movies afterward. Personally, I'm still disappointed SC would not be made next, but a Narnia movie is a Narnia movie.

And just to clear up the air, this movie has not been officially greelit yet. So there is no definite that another movie will be made, but after reading this, there is definitely potential. We'll have to wait and see for ourselves. Otherwise, check out the article for yourself for more details.

My only worry about SC not being made next is that Will P isn't getting younger... but other than that, and as long as they don't recast him when they do make SC or LB, I think that MN first maybe the right move. As they said it may bring more money, ensuring the series growth. Also Tilda's not getting any younger either... and SC is the darker book of the two, a lot like PC in someways, so I think the audience needs to settle down and the films future needs to stabalize before they can do SC. (But seriously no matter how old he is, do NOT recast Will Poulter!!!)

I really hope they do move forward with the production, I think it's what Moore would have wanted after he worked so hard to get the other films greenlit.

And there is still the possibility that they will film more than one at a time, which would really be the right move for the series I think (but give then longer runtimes and better budgets please FOX!)

this would be cool except that Will Poulter is getting older.....should they wait any longer for SC?
a re-cast would be awful..... :-s

But Libby, He'd still be getting older for LB and they can't make that one next (well they could but it wouldn't be a good idea) I think all in all this is the better choice (of course naturally I will be making some Will P as Eustace graphics just to make sure they get the point ;) )

But I wouldn't worry about SC just yet. Besides for a while it seemed like they were just about to greenlight SC and HHB, maybe they still will :D

Wow! Wow! wow. How suprising. I did not see this coming. If this means they won't make SC next I will be disappointed but I would still be excited to see MN. After all, it has never been adapted yet! And we would get another Narnia movie. This is just my inital emotions. I will have to sort through them as we get more info coming in and hopefully an official greenlighting.
So I'm shocked, worried, and very excited!

I was suprised too! I know Perry Moore died yesterday ( :(( ), and that Walden and Fox had been considering MN instead of SC, but I never expected that they might actually do MN first! As much as I want to cry about the fact that we might have to wait longer for SC (and as I've said before, Will P's age doesn't scare me yet), I feel like dancing joyfully that MN, which is my third favorite CoN book, could be getting made. I need to sort through my thoughts more before I post more of my feelings, but even if we don't get SC next or MN next, I can't wait to see a hopefully great Narnia movie! :D

Well, better that they try out some new writers (pretty please) on MN, which I never really liked, than on SC, which is one of my favorites in the series. And if they mess us MN and still, for some reason, make SC, I will know to definitely boycott SC!

I, like so many others, was really hoping for Silver Chair next! For the same reasons as everyone else...good story, its the one after VDT so that makes sense, Will Poulter isn't getting any younger etc...
I mean, I really want another Narnia film, I want them all to be made, but MN is like a genesis story, like Xmen:Origins, so that would mean jumping back and then forwards again if SC gets made (Fingers crossed) and it might get a bit confusing?! Especially for non book readers?!
I was never really a huge fan of MN either Lirenel, like you I also loved SC! I can see some reasons why they would want MN next because it had the hite witch in and everyone seemed to love her, but seriously; havn't we seen enough already? Wont her coming back for a fourth time just be a bit boring and repetative?

Also, if they mage MN next without SC being made at the same time (A good idea!) then that lessens the chances of SC or at least SC without Eustace being recast :( and no SC means no LB which means that not all of the narnia books will be made into films, which was Perry Moore's wish.

I think that SC should be next, the LB, then HHB and then MN last as an origins of narnia type film. this would mean that no actor would grow too old before they wern't needed anymore, and Tilda swinton could wear de aging make up (which looks more realistic on older people, just to cancel out the 'use aging make up on WP' convo) and she could maybe have different hair that would make her seem younger. In other words, MN can be done last, and I personally think that it should be done last...i don't know about others.

But over all, a 4th narnia film is a 4th narnia film...i'll be happy, and i'll see it anyway!

Putting MN before SC seems like an extremely very not good idea, as The Doctor would say. Will Poulter isn't getting any older, and it'd be best to get Barnes to come back to play Caspian while he's still interested.

Plus, from what I've seen, MN just isn't as well known. The screenwriters seem to be fond of this word "epic," and MN is just about the antithesis of that.

Such a shocking piece of news! I mean, the Magician's Nephew is a good book and all, but SC needs to come next. Do you think they're making the movie since it's a prequel to the money-making LWW?

If they do decide to do MN, I wouldn't be surprised if that's why. In GlumPuddle's opinion on the news page, he puts it like this: "Which do you think would do better: a VDT sequel or LWW prequel?"
Besides, MN has the White Witch as a main character.

I truly don't see the logic or value of making the prequel MN now, it's such a break with continuity from VDT. 8-|

I had a thought:

what if they greenlit MN and SC at the same time?

none of the characters in MN appear in SC! so they could have two different directors and make both movies at the same time or at least around the same time.....
:-
what do ya'll think? I htink it would be cool! :D :D

I don't think they'd likely do that, and it makes me uneasy to think of different crews on each movie, but I've been wrong before. But after looking at VDT's box office, would they want to go so far as to make two movies at once? :-

So many questions here! However, until a fourth Narnia movie is greenlit (I'm not going to say which one since I honestly can't be sure either way yet), or we get some more answers, we have no real idea what's going on here. All I can say is this: I'd rather have another Narnia movie made than not. Let the crazy spectulation begin again! 8-}

If they greenlit both I would be VERY suprised, just because of how VDT preformed. However I think that would make me happy because then we could see both films. ;)
