[Closed] The Dawn Treader Ship

A bit of a shame we lost the old topic, and all the associated highs and lows as the Dawn Treader was slowly revealed to us, piece by piece. But the new forum does at least give us the chance to start afresh with our views and opinions, and coincides nicely with filming begining on the Dawn Treader set.

And to start off with, here is possibly the best photo yet i've seen from filming... The Dawn Treader in Full Sail! (or at least a quarter of its full sail!)

You may notice that the sail isn't just purple....

good:

I just love the ship. The purple is like the nicest purple i have ever seen. The dragon pow is just cute and the boast colours are just awesome. I can't wait to see what it is going to look like in the movie.

Bad:

Only bad thing is that it kind of looks like one of those swinging boat rides you get on a theme parks. I think i can live with that though.

Oh sweet! Thanks for finding that icarus! It is nice to see the sail partially extended. I think that's even more proof that the sail and mast will be extended a bit in post 'cause that's a small sail! ;))

ILF, don't forget that they do a lot of color correction in post. It'll look even better on the screen. :)

Edit: mm1991 posted this in the Edmund thread:

I didn't know where else to put this since the thread about the ship is gone, but on Skandar's official site, the update for September 4th stated:

"The summer vacation was spent filming in Australia on the Gold Coast and after six weeks Skandar was lucky to get a Friday off so went to Sydney for a three-day break. The holiday was soon over as his teachers arrived from England and school has started again. At the same time filming of the boat at Cleveland Point has started and will last for three weeks. The boat is even more magical than in the pictures posted by fans on the internet so wait till you see the film!"

Thought I'd add that in here.

Oh My!
That ship is so pretty :x
I wish the trees weren't covering the behind of it.
I've had my ups and downs with the ship, (downs only early on with the dragon head but they've made it work with the whole ship).
The last pictures were beautiful but with the sail, it's all the more-

for me atleast, it enhances the beauty of the ship itself. SO much nicer still!

I would like to see a good picture of a birds eye view of the deck of the ship.

I assume when you say "good" picture, you mean better than the blurry one we saw in the Local TV News report video? I too would quite like to see a better shot of that, though i can't imagine many Narnia spys out there would be able to get such a shot. ;)

Which reminds me though, there was another very nice picture on Flickr the other day (i think it may have just caught the tail-end of the last thread, or possibly fell between the cracks somewhere) but it did make me wonder how they possibly got such a good shot without all the cranes and equipment being in the way... but anyway, here is the Tail Lantern:

Maybe they got lucky and there was nothing in the way or they were aloud in.

I guess i will have to wait for the movie to see the top view of the ship. Better late then never though.

A good zoom lens and color correction. I've been learning a lot about color correcting photos and that looks like it's been tweaked a bit. But I'd guess that it was definitely a good zoom lens. :)

Nice shot. Thanks for reposting that.

I wish i could see it for real. It is so annoying that My favorite book is getting filmed at the place i use to live. Oh my bad luck. I wish i could break the curse and make sc get filmed in WA.

Anyway i wish i could walk on the deck of the dawn treader.

I hadn't seen that picture so thanks for re-posting it here. Looks great.
I am most excited for this movie, more than I was for PC. :D

Anyway i wish i could walk on the deck of the dawn treader.

Don't we all, don't we all ;)

Woah. I'm in shock at the sail detailing; not something I expected. I think I like it. . . I do love the shade of purple with that lighting though. :D

The tail lantern looks perfect, as well. Wonderful finds, icarus!

Meh, the sail doesn't really go with the other colors of the ship, imo. And what's with the gold stuff on it? These people are acting like a teenage girl bedazzling everything in sight. :p Good thing they aren't in charge of the costumes or there would probably be gold braid and lace all over everything.

I was perhaps expecting some sort of design on the sail... the BBC had like a big golden lion/sun design on their DT sail... but this? I've spent all day looking at it and i can't figure out what its supposed to be. Even taking into account that we are only seeing a fraction of the final sail, i can't quite work out what the final design could possibly be of.

Well so much for my theory that once the sail was unfurled it would be a lighter purple..... that is seriously one PURPLE sail. :))
The design on it is bugging me because it looks familiar, but I can't place it. It will be interesting to see it completed.

Indeed. That is one very purple sail. I am loving it.

Certainly some will love it, others are going to hate it. To be sure, it is one very, very purple sail.

Likewise, I would like to see the layout of the deck. Guess we will soon enough.

“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”
