[Closed] The Chronicles of Narnia: The Last Battle

I know that it's a bit premature, as Narnia 7, if it is made, will probably not come about until 2018 at the earliest. However, as that film, if it is made, will be the most dramatic and probably the best of the series, I wanted to create a thread to talk about it. Here are some of my thoughts:

Warning: Spoilers below

1. I think that the film should, like Deathly Hallows and Breaking Dawn, be split into two parts. This seems to be a trend that is becoming more and more popular in the fantasy Genre (Even The Hobbit is being split), and I think it would make the film much stronger. The midpoint of the novel is the Battle of Cair Paravel, which I think should be portrayed in the film and would make a good split point.

2. The final battle at Stable Hill should be larger and more climatic than it is portrayed in the film, and I think that Archenland should be involved in the battle. They are mentioned in the novel, but their fate is never determined.

3. Finally, Susan's fate should be shown, along with more of the real world. The events in England have great dramatic impact; Susan has lost faith, three of her siblings died in a train wreck, along with her parents, cousin, and the Professor. I also think that the film should show Susan regaining belief in Narnia, or at least imply that she does.

Those are some of my thoughts about the conclusion to Narnia. What do you think?

The Last Battle is an incredibly short book for two hour-long movies. :|

The book is incredibly short, but there is a lot of side stories that could be told that could lengthen the film. For example, we only see Earth once in the book, and as a vision. If they showed them finding the rings and the train crash, along with the effects of the death of the friends of Narnia, it could add a good amount to the film. Also, the battle of Cair Paravel would probably be lengthy, and the battle of stable hill could be expanded. Finally, as an end of the world film, the effects of the events effect more that just Narnia, so those could be depicted.

However, the two film idea was just a thought.

I like the idea of showing more of Susan and England. However they have to find a good way to intercut it. Otherwise it might look odd. For one thing, you never really have that happening in any other of the Narnia films. Sure the beginning of PC was like that, and the kids went in and out the wardrobe a few times in LWW, but was not happening for the whole film. Its something I would like to see but has to executed properly.

I like your ideas very much, except for the The Last Battle being split into two movies. Deathly Hallows is a long book with heaps happening within the pages, it warrants that length. The Last Battle isn't even 200 pages long!

Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus about the two film idea. It "could" be done, but it would take a lot of expansion

I agree, but if you give it more room for expansion, the more it's chanced that they'll add something in there that fans will not like

I'm not suggesting adding completely new events or reinventing the plot like they did in VDT, rather portraying events that aren't shown in the film (Events on Earth, The battle of Cair Paravel, and the fate of Archenland and other countries)

I think the fleshing out of the plot would still work fine all in a 2.5-3 hour film. I do love the idea of a more climactic final battle involving Archenland also. Would be cool to possibly also have Galma & Terebinthian ships also assist (but fail) in the attack of Cair Paravel.

tvan037, I was actually thinking more of a Suspian thing, but I get what you're saying now... it would be cool to see all of the other lands try to help out, I really like CorazonBandido55's idea too... I just don't think it needs two movies

Thanks for all the great comments, and yes, I see that it would be hard to do it as 2 films. One longer, well made film with a satisfying conclusion would be a better way to do it, as 2 movies might feel stretched out. I just hope that TLB is epic enough to make LOTR and HP green with envy.

I like most of your ideas too :) My only problem with splitting it into two movies is because it will be inconsitently structured with the others. I like structural consistency :P I would, however, certainly appreciate a longer film, 2 and a half hours perhaps even longer would be awesome.

It should be emotionally and psychologically epic but I don't think it needs to be physically epic. A small high-stakes battle would be amazing.

I actually think that it is very important the the Battle of Stable Hill not be expanded. The small size of the Narnian Army and the Calormen Army (At the begining) actually makes the battle much more intense. Every single soldier is valuable and with every single Narnian that dies you feel Tirian's Army's chance of victory falls lower and lower. It all makes for something very emotional.

So I am opposed to Archenland coming into the FINAL battle to make it larger. However I think it would be nice if Archenland would come to the aid of Cair Paravel.

All these idea sound awesome! ^^ I don't know about it being split- after all, the Lord of the Rings films managed to keep them all as one film, and they were very epic. I'd love to see a Narnia film with 2.5-3 hours on it though, that would be very awesome. I really hope they never try and squeeze it into a 2-hour-or-under time frame.
