You know, of all the scenes I missed in the movie, this one trumps them all! No, seriously! In the book, that was the "WOW" moment for me. Obviously, this did not happen in the movie.
Here's a quote from Chapter fourteen of VDT:
Once or twice before, the Narnians had wondered whether the sun at its rising did not look bigger in these seas than it had looked at home. This time they were certain. There was no mistaking it. And the brightness of its ray on the dew and on the table was far beyond any morning brightness they had ever seen. And as Edmond said afterwards, 'though lots of things happened on that trip which seem more exciting, that moment was really the most exciting.' For now they knew that they had truly come the the beginning of the End of the World.
Oh, my goodness! Pitter patter, pitter patter, eh? Of course, then the chapter goes on to talk about the birds flying out of the sun and about how to break the spell - all of which is such a beautiful read and I encourage all of you to revisit. However, what I quoted sums up what VDT is for me and what it was for the whole crew. For the crew, this was the climax, sorta, to their whole adventure. When I compare this to the climax in the movie, a fight with the mist and a giant sea serpent, that's when I just shake my head. Something is rotten somewhere 'cause, quite frankly, I don't think the film portrayed at all what I just quoted. Not at all!
So, I guess what I've been leading up to are these few questions: is this scene completely contrary to the movie? Would it have been just a nice edition to the movie if they had put it in? Or, do you think this scene wouldn't have fit into the Fox/Walden movie at all?
EDIT: Assume that they had an unlimited budget!

I wonder if getting the crucial Aslan lines was what Mr Gresham negotiated hard for, more than for the look of this scene? But yes, that is a wonderful section - I wonder that they didn't have a couple of minutes to show that approach to Aslan's Country...
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
That is powerful. In the movie the were rushing through everything though. So it's no surprise they didn't build up this scene. It is disappointing. Although I liked the end of the world scene, the build up to it, both through out the movie and right before the scene was lacking.

I definitely missed that part in the movie, Lewis was such a genius at descriptions that you almost feel as if you are there for the last chapter or so. It's a shame they cut it out of the movie.
its a shame it was watered down, but the entire movie was a watered down version of the book.
"I'm a beast I am, and a Badger what's more. We don't change. We hold on. I say great good will come of it... And we beasts remember, even if Dwarfs forget, that Narnia was never right except when a son of Adam was King." -Trufflehunter
I wonder where the "eagles eyes" and being able to stare at the sun and needing no food or anything but the water went?

You suck a lollipop, and you sing a song. Get it right, Jo!
Oh I do wish that had been in the film! It would have been so beautiful! But I guess it wasn't possible, and the actual end of the world was done well, and I can't ask for everything.
I stand with the Lord at my side, always.
For Narnia and the North!
Be the change you want to see in the world.

Okay, so the impression I get is: I would have been nice to be in the movie. However, let's take it a step further, eh? 'Cause, the movie climaxed when the dark Island was defeated! The climax in the book was this scene! Or, at least it was kinda a mini climax leading to The End of the World;it's the Beginning! So, I mean: what if this scene is kinda a contrary scene than what the filmmakers were after?

It's a shame these parts were not included in the movie. I really felt that the moviemakers didn't give enough thought to the end of the world. It really felt like an afterthought... literally, "Well, we've come this far."
You know, for all of their beautiful visuals in the movie, the scenes that had potential to be breathtaking were all removed (the beginning of the end of the world, the end of the world (it felt so bare!), and my personal favorite, Ramandu and the firebirds). I mean, I can see why they didn't include them, because they didn't fit the new movie plot they had made, but, really, it could have been so much better!
So, I just hope that some of the really breathtaking scenes aren't left out of future movies.... (the creation of Narnia and the end of Narnia both come to mind) ...
