OK, back to the original topic started by yours truly. I was trying to think of a climactic payoff to replace the Sea Serpent/Green Mist battle in the movie.
I would replace the Green Mist with my idea for an additional quest or purpose which the movie people felt was needed, thusly:
Have Narrowhaven done as in the book except have Gael's mom taken by the slave traders to Pug's ship or another as mentioned in the book. Let that ship get away before Caspian frees the slaves so the slavers/pirates out at sea would not know about it. Or they could know about it and try to escape; to the East of course.
So, in answer to this thread, I would emphasize the fear/awe of sailing into the unknown, and the mystery of what happened to the seven lords. I would make it a little more like a detective story. At each island, they find clues about the fate of the lords.
I like that idea but also would have the Dawn Treader look for clues to the the slave ship as well as Caspian and crew pursue it. Coriakin could even help them with that.
Have the Sea Serpent where it is in the book but replace it near the end with the Dawn Treader coming across the slave ship and having a battle to rescue the slaves, including Gael's mother. Or as a variation, have the Sea Serpent attack near the end but against the slave ship and the Dawn Treader comes to the rescue that way.
That kind of addition to me would be more in harmony with the book and better than the supernatural Green Mist's vaporizing people into limbo land. That was the weaker of the two additions for me. I guess then I would just drop the sword plot altogether.
Best I could come uo with for now and thanks for some of the other ideas as well.
Although I did like VDT as a movie, maybe someday a better and more faithful version of will be made.

....All along we were hearing from the production that Voyage just wasn't cinematic. Too episodic. We need something to tie everything together. I don't think the swords/mist "tied it all together" at all. They still went on a series of unrelated adventures only now they ticked off the seven swords from their to do list instead of ticking off the seven lords like they do in the book....
These are the things that tie the movie together. The things that make the audience invested in the characters and want to see how they handle the next adventure.
I think all the discussion in this thread is excellent and would make good letters to write to the powers that be at Walden and Fox. These thoughts need to be heard.

Too late for VDT but there is hope for The Silver Chair (if they decide to make it). Let's hope the script writers stick closer to that book's story.

Let's hope that they decided they should care about what the purist fans think and not just try to cover up their faults by changing slight things from the leaked script.
I agree very well with GlimGlum. Yeah, we can't change what VDT is, but there is still hope for SC. I might understand a few changes that explain the plot better, but the bigger deal is that they need to starting working on making faithful adaptions that work as movies. Will they actually prevail with that? I have no idea, but if they at least look like they're really driving for that purpose, I'd feel better.
As for what I think of the 7S and GM plot, I feel pretty sad about it. This is not related to the book, and the more I think about it, the more I feel they really failed on getting what VDT was all about. This is a really hard blow to the books, and this could get chaotic if they keep doing this.
They should keep to the book. But if they had to change it, I'd like them to replace the Green Mist of the Dark Island with the Serpant Cave of the Lady of the Green Kirtle.
Winter Is Coming
I would have left out the whole 7 swords and green mist thing-not in the book, which always bugs me. I would have drawn out Eustace's de-dragoning and the island of the Dufflepuds, but that's just my opinion:) I liked the movie overall, but the 7 swords and green mist were a bit ridiculous.
Wrong will be right when Aslan comes in sight / At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more / When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death / And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again
