I know in America there is an accent that is used for broadcasting, etc. Germany has something similar too. Does England have the same thing too?

Yes it does. It has many names but the easiest to remember is Standard British Dialect. This is the accent you usually think of when you think "British Accent." A definite example would be Rex Harrison's accent in My Fair Lady.

The next most recognizable British accent would be Cockney British Dialect. This is typically used when actors are playing historical characters from lower classes, though not always. An example of this dialect would be Audrey Hepburn's accent in My Fair Lady.

Augh, no. Just, no. Even if it was a bit of a wall-banger, if you can't keep book continuity you'd better well keep movie continuity. I've no clue as to how they'll explain away this one, but it'll be interesting to say the least.

What if they don't explain it? They just change it. There can't be a good explanation, so maybe it is better to not try.

I am disturbed by this change but I will still enjoy the movie. I loved LWW and PC so I see no good reason why I won't like VDT. I loved the Telmarine accent and losing it does take away the continuity for me but I can spend these next months explaining it all away because they probably won't bother to do so in the movie.

Explanation A: After Aslan made the door a lot of Telmarines left and it was just the old Narnians and a very few Telmarines. That being said, the Narnian accent began to catch on.

Explanation B: Caspian having had the Telmarines after his blood found it harder to fit in with them and surrounded himself with mostly Narnians. Now he has their accent.

Explanation C: Caspian is human and that fact alone makes his Narnian subjects feel disconnected from him, so he fakes a Narnian accent in order to have some sort of common ground with them.

Explanation D: It takes a lot less time to lose an accent in the Narnian world than our world. It is fantasy after all.

Agreed, Corazon. With the exception of Caspian's, I quite enjoyed the diversity of the Telmarines in PC, including their accents. There is a blond Telmarine soldier in PC that stood out like a sore thumb to me, and is still one of my biggest gripes about the movie.

At least, like others have stated, they are at least keeping the Mediterranean/Spanish look of the Telmarines, at least of the DT crew. Better than nothing I suppose.

I like D the best. Though i really sort of think if they are going to change it, they should just not explain it.

Agreed. It's akin to changing Lucy & Edmund's accent to, say, Irish. It's just... odd.

I suppose they could argue that Caspian was already losing his accent (hence the "it's back, it's gone, it's back, it's gone...") in Prince Caspian, and it went on from there. Like as not, however, they'll ignore it. Grr...

We have some preparing to do before December, to be sure. Perhaps it is better to explain these as Preparations for the movie's release in December? ... *edits as it only went downhill from there and involved the topical application phenyleprhine*

If a lot of the older Telmarines left I could easily see this happening. In the book, it mentions that many of the younger Telmarines were already making friends with the animals. If one hangs around with people long enough one will pick up the way they talk.

If that's true the same should also be said of the reverse: What if the Narnians started talking like Telmarines? That baroque lilt is catchy!

I do think it's funny how we come up with ideas to justify seemingly out-of-left-field changes--I think it's fun to do!--but still prefer the movie tell us why the Telmarines no longer talk like Telmarines.

It's too bad that they took away the accents. I really liked them. I mean if you put them there you might as well keep them. If you take away the accents you might as well give Caspian blond hair to go according to the book.

Explanation G: Well, when all the Telmarines had successfully passed through the magic door, and the Pevensies had gone through their magic door, Aslan stood up among all the animals:
"Look, everyone, this is very important. I know those Telmarines twisted everything around for you, with their accents and all, and I'm sorry for that. We're going to have to make some major changes now that their gone, and make you all talk decently again. We're starting a Rehabilitaion Age in Narnia so you can all learn to talk normally. Um...it'll take about three years, so let's start now. Caspian, you first..."

Personally, I'm glad they killed the accent. It'll make Caspian and co. much easier to understand. And Ben Barnes' real accent is much nicer than his fake one.
