I agree with Eustace. CS Lewis was indeed going to re write and edit certain things in his Narnia books before passing away. he was very secret with his ideas and they are left unknown. Really no one knows.

If diversity in accents is the only thing that separates Narnia from Harry Potter, then they might as well take away all of the accents and be done with it. Narnia and Harry Potter are separated by story, not accents.

I merely meant that by making everything spoken with an English accent is going to make that magical and different land feel like an ordinary same world with the same spoken accents. There's no diversity or novelty.

The Harry Potter thing was me just being my sarcastic self. I 100 percent know that the story is completely different it's just all you see is British kids running around the only wizard school in the world and there are no Americans, Canadian's, etc. All because the crew feels oh JK Rowlings is english, only english kids should be in this movie

The thing is: When they created the telmarine culture for PC, they decided to go with that accent and ancestry. NOW changing it and not sticking with what they have established prior isn't exactly a good thing.

I think they should keep a slight accent, showing that the Telmarines are becoming Narnian. Or even have Caspian slip up and speak in the accent before correcting himself. There needs to be a reason for the change.

Exactly! This is one thing Hollywood seems to forget now is why they change things for a reason. I too hope they have a reason for it in the movie or else it'll fall flat.

I think Caspian having spent 4 years around old Narnians will be reason enough. Accents seem to come and go depending on which culture you are around.

Since the story of the pirates in Caspian's ancestry pretty well matches the story of the pirates in Mutiny on the Bounty, I'm pretty sure Lewis meant the Telmarines to be of British decent. Besides, if they weren't British, then why do they speak English? Why would they switch their language to that of the Old Narnians if they conquered them?

I have Spanish ancestry in me and so do my family and most of my friends. First thing majority of Spanish people have brunette, red and blonde hair as well. Two of my cousins who too have Spanish in them have blonde hair. I was born with blonde but it grew out brown as I grew a little older.

Two, The Archenlander's could have taught them the english language. There are many things as to why. There were only three types of pirates back in those days and they were from either 1. Spain, 2. Singapore, 3. Australia

If they had conquered them and just oppressed them, they might have come up with a mixture of the two languages or perhaps learned the Narnian language. However, since total annihilation was obviously the goal, they wouldn't have bothered about language at all. If I remember my history correctly, the first pirates were English.

I don't mind the change. The language Lewis uses is so obviously British English that English accents make sense. They weren't very consistent - at least Caspian's wasn't. My sister thought maybe they did that on purpose to should he was becoming closer to the old Narnians i.e. more Narnian and less Telmarine (in the negative sense).

thinking about this a bit, I was thinking:
according to the book, Caspian has been king of Narnia for three years by the time VotDT takes place. in that time, he could have picked up on the Narnian's 'accent' and will now sound like them! it will be a good transition.....

*sigh* Now if only they had thought of this before they made Prince Caspian...
Although I'm not a big fan of the accent, it'll be weird for Caspian to have a British accent in this movie and a Spanish one in the last. I think I would have rather they just kept it.

I don’t really mind that they got rid of the accent, I think I would have been happier if they had kept the accent and just toned it down.
I never had a problem with the accents I could take it or leave it.

When my sisters and I first heard that the Telmarines were going to have accents in PC we thought it was a bad idea because accents like that are to hard to keep and hard to be consistant with. I guess we were right! (Maybe they could have paid us a million for telling them in advance. ) Furthermore, they have to drop it at some point. (Seriously, do you want Tirian speaking with it? And what about when they go back and make prequels?)

Glenstorm's accent was more British-Jamaican than Mediterranean.

Either way, it wasn't supposed to be a Telmarine accent.

I'm actually a little upset by these news. I think it's a really stupid decision. I know some people hated the accent, but I don't care. What's done is done. Way to screw up the continuity of the series, Walden...
