Okay, so while searching through the narniafans site looking for info, I noticed that on their forum the mods opened a topic which allowed members to take a pledge not to pre-judge the movie and to wait to critizise until after it was seen. (you can find that topic here : http://www.narniafans.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27703
The plege is just a way of trying to go into the film with a positive outlook and to not walk into the theater ready and willing to hate it. Here is the pledge.
"I, _______ solemnly swear that in the days leading up to the December 10th release of Dawn Treader, I will not read the book or listen to the audio drama. I also swear that I will reserve critique and judgment until after the end credits have rolled and I have left the theater. I will also spend a little time to reflect on the movie before deciding my feelings.
Signed, ______"
I'm willing to give the film a chance and I'm looking forward to it, so I will take the pledge first.
"I, Invisible Woman solemnly swear that in the days leading up to the December 10th release of Dawn Treader, I will not read the book or listen to the audio drama. I also swear that I will reserve critique and judgment until after the end credits have rolled and I have left the theater. I will also spend a little time to reflect on the movie before deciding my feelings.
Signed,
Invisible Woman"
This is a cool idea, but I feel I'm beyond the point of being able to do this. I'm finding myself not really excited at all about counting down the days because I'm so dissatisfied with what I've seen and heard so far about the movie.
But hey, one good thing about being a total pessimist is that my expectations can only be exceeded when I eventually do watch VDT.

Agreed. If your expectations are at the very worst, it will either be exactly what your expecting, or better. You're sure to not be disappointed.
I wonder why the "swear" also says not to read the book or listen to the audio drama? That doesn't have anything to do with pre-judging the movie...

Presumably if the story is not fresh in your mind you can take the movie in its own merits instead of comparisons.
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."

Yes I cut out the book part I don't think it will hamper my ability to not prejudge the movie though.
"The mountains are calling and I must go, and I will work on while I can, studying incessantly." -John Muir
"Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed." -Richard Adams, Watership Down
I would do this if it wasn't for the fact that is said you can't critique it, I will see it and I think I will love it, but I want to have the right to critique changes I don't like before the movie comes out.
I havent read the book in years (though I listent to the radio drama last year). I'll probably read the book after I see the movie to compare the two. But I'll take the pledge.
"I, Josh solemnly swear that in the days leading up to the December 10th release of Dawn Treader, I will not read the book or listen to the audio drama. I also swear that I will reserve critique and judgment until after the end credits have rolled and I have left the theater. I will also spend a little time to reflect on the movie before deciding my feelings.

haha, I'm actually feeling conflicted about this pledge.
I want to take the pledge and expect the best, but I'm probably beyond the point of return.
Call me cynical but a pessimistic attitude is a win-win situation for me. If I'm wrong about the film, then great, the film will exceed my expectations. If I'm right about the film, I'm not disappointed and there's sense of smug self-satisfaction.
(ok maybe not the last part but you get my point).
On the other hand, a optimistic attitude gives you more of a win-lose situation. If you're right about the film, good for you and all is well. However, if you're wrong, --->
Despite what I said, I'm still willing to give the film the benefit of the doubt and probably enjoy it for what it is.
"Now we shall take the adventure that Aslan has given to us!"
I already am being optimistic about the movie. I've not liked everything I've heard. But I have chosen to reserve judgment until I see it. I of course haven't seen all the spoilers either. Only what's in the trailers I know. I like surprises, even if it changes from the books. It's never been a huge issue for me.
I'm on board. It seems like it is becoming extremely fashionable to demonstrate how big a Narnia fan one may be by hating this movie in advance.
It is possible to adapt a book into a movie and make changes that actually make sense and flow well to tell a good story on the screen. I'm very optimistic that this may be the case for the coming voyage.
Heh, I would take the pledge, except I'm doing my Author Portfolio project on The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis (the project is on Lewis, but focuses on a single work) in honor of the movie coming out, so I think I would like to reserve the privilege (I can't say it's a right) to be critically minded about the changes. I will, however, walk into the movie theater with an open mind. I don't want my fanatic attitude (I can get that way at times) to ruin my chance of enjoying the movie. I really am quite optimistic about it, so I don't think I'll have any problems with it.

I am fairly good at not judging it before I see it. Although I would prefer a faithful adaption.....I feel as if I will immensly enjoy whatever Narnia I can get on the big screen.

Yesterday I would have agreed with minotaurforaslan, but the first review really gave me hope again.
I will read the books again, but I don't see why that would affect my take on the movie. After all I've already read it, so I will know when the movie makes changes anyway.
But all the other stuff is true, so:
"I, adamie solemnly swear that in the days leading up to the December 10th release of Dawn Treader, I will reserve critique and judgment until after the end credits have rolled and I have left the theater. I will also spend a little time to reflect on the movie before deciding my feelings.

Haha this is awesome.
I've seen the trailer but haven't kept up with much else about the movie. But I've come to terms with the fact it's going to be different, so no pre-judging here I will only have issues if it's, in my opinion, completely dumb and poorly written/acted. That's what I'm nervous about.
