I know many of you have thought the same thing, about parts of the Silver Chair being in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. A while back there was an interview with Ben Barnes and he mentions some other books being used. Also there is a new website were you can take a Narnia character quiz from the new movie it is called narniacharacters.com. Some of King Caspain's questions ask about the Silver Chair.Like what is Caspian's sons name, and how many years before the Silver Chair did Caspians wife die? This really got me to thinking . What do you guys think?
The quote from Ben Barnes was that they had borrowed from other books. He never specifially mentioned Silver Chair, most people simply assumed it based on the contents of a very early draft of the VDT script which contained several plot elements setting up a Silver Chair movie.
Anyway, there is a discussion about the possibility for VDT to include elements that set up the LOTGK and other parts of The Silver Chair over here (based on Tilda Swinton's somewhat green-eyed appearence in the 1st trailer amongst the somewhat green tinted smoke of the supposedly Dark Island):
And information on the Narnia Characters website can be found here:
Thanks for the info icarus I was sure Ben had said Silver Chair but maybee I was mistaken.I will definatly chang that, but even at that there still could be a possibility of it happening. If they are trying to set up for the Silver Chair movie then they could add some parts of the book. Like Caspians son being born
To be honest with you, I think Ben made the statement back before the script was changed. I personally believe he was referencing The Lady of the Green Kirtle before she was cut out of VDT.
Thus far, I've seen no real evidence of any future books being referenced in this movie. But I don't know that for sure, that's just a hunch.
Maybe the 'borrowing from other books' has more to do with Horse And His Boy'; I mean, didnt they cast some Calormene ambassadors to be in this movie?
your fellow Telmarine
They cast a woman of indian origin as an Ambassadors wife - no mention of being Calormene or Telmarine or any other Narnian nationality. But any such detail like that is only ever going to be small and trivial, it was clear in the original interview that Ben Barnes was referring to big over-arching plot elements being added to the story from other books to tie the story together.
Like fantasia_kitty said, given that we know now alot more about what has been added to the story by way of a new over-arching plot, there doesnt seem to be anything major pointing towards big plot elements from other book, so it would seem he was almost certainly talking about the whole LOTGK business (which has now mostly been cut) and any remaining elements of that plot which still exist in the movie (of which there are a few).
I think in the end everything's going to work out even if they do steal stuff from SC! I can't wait to see what's going to happen in this movie and the new trailer just made me even more impatiant!

Ben Barnes did mention that a few things from LB was taken as a few ideas for this film, he never really stated SC. I think whomever wrote the quiz thought of a lot of SC questions, I don't think it means anything at all.

The exact quote in question is:
"They’ve stolen a couple of ideas from some of the later ["Chronicles of Narnia"] books. [It’s] a very difficult book to adapt, because it’s very episodic. It’s chapter by chapter. They go on the voyage, they go to one island, a bit more voyage, another island, a bit more voyage, another island. It’s very satisfying to read; every chapter by chapter, it’s very exciting. But it has no real through line. And so they have to kind of steal other elements to sew it all together. I think they’ve done it in a really clever, unobtrusive way."

No mention of whether they used elements from SC, HHB, MN, or LB. The interview was from Sept. 2009, which was about halfway through filming, so at that time it had already been confirmed, I believe, that the Lady of the Green Kirtle and those elements from SC had been removed from the script.

LOL! How could Ben Barnes even say "It's a very hard book to adapt?" It's a non stop adventurous book. There's many things to take from this book and lenghten the ideas in that much further. I'm tired of them taking other ideas. They did it so much in Prince Caspian when all they could have done was limit the actual things written in the book. It couldn't of been word for word, but they have many things to toy around with in its' literature without taking so many things out from the other books.

I think Ben Barnes is right. There is no thread that weaves this book together. The search for the seven lords is barely the thread that weaves it together. It is a very episodic book and not really about character arcs.
I do think that they are making major changes and i don't really like it, but i am completely unsurprised. In some ways it almost seems like this film is going to be even more changed then was PC. The only change in PC i hated was the romance. There was pacing problems and bad dialogue as well which may also be a problem in VotDT.

Ditto decarus, I too didn't like that change in PC as well as others, but it really depends on the changes that they've made to this film if it's for the better or pointless change. But it's too early to determine that just yet.

That is very true, some things may be added for great reasons, others, just reasons. At the moment, though, we can't honestly tell if each added piece to the movie will be awesome, or terrible. Only time will tell, but for now, we must try to keep judgements and opinions (not that they're bad) at bay, so there might be a better chance at enjoying the movie.
As for other parts from other books being added, I really don't mind that right now, but it could still be from different books then the Silver Chair. I just hope what they're puttinng in it won't affect the movie badly.
The point of the boards is to discuss our judgments and opinions.

I think Shastafan means that we have such little amount of material from the film to go by, we shouldn't be endlessly analyzing or obsessing over things we have little knowledge of yet. That idea sounds healthy to me.
