Anyone but Apted and Adamson.
I'm reserving my opinion on Branagh for SC until I see Thor. If he handles Thor well, which is pretty much a fantasy movie, I think he could be a good choice for SC. Unless he's directed another fantasy movie I could watch while I'm waiting nearly a year for Thor.
When will people realise the director often has little say (if any) on the script. That's the main problem here. Apted is hugely capable director, judging by his previous works. If anything, ditch the scriptwriters and get new ones. That is all.

Honestly, I kind of want Adamson back. He did an excellent job with the first two, especially with LWW. He had a vision, of LWW and he brought it to life, it was beuatiful and perfect. Honestly the only reason I think that PC wasn't as excellently done, is because he didn't have as much of a vision with as he did with the first one. Even though I want Adamson back, I'll be happy if they bring in someone new who has a vision for SC like Adamson did for LWW- (as long as it doesn't stray too far from the book that is)- because that's how some of the best movies are made.

"Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed." -Richard Adams, Watership Down
With the way things are going, I want someone new. From what we've been hearing it just seems like Apted doesn't really value the books and is taking the series in the wrong direction. Perhaps the screenwriters are the ones to blame... Either way, what Narnia really needs is a director who absolutely adores the books prior to making the film. If this requirement is fulfilled, he/she should be very much involved in the screenwriting process. There is something special about a director shooting from a script they worked on, based on a book they love. This is what Lord of the Rings had with Peter Jackson, and those turned out amazing. I'm not saying Peter Jackson should direct Silver Chair (he couldn't anyways with The Hobbit), but rather someone who cherishes the book. I'm pretty sure we can all agree on this.
I think Adamson could do a good job with SC, it is one of the easiest books to adapt and he did LWW very close to the book.
Honestly I wouldn't mind if it was only as close as PC as long as it is a good movie and keeps the themes of the book like LWW and PC did.
You're right, NolanFilm. We need a director who absolutely loves the book for what it is and even if he makes changes to it, he understands how the changes will fit with the story and its themes.
I can't agree with everyone who agrees that this movie will be easy to adapt. Yes, the story is very well laid out, but at the same time, this story is so straight-foward that unless they make some changes in Hollywood's eyes(between the amount that PC and LWW did, I hope), this movie might seem boring and too short to them.(My opinions will likely change when we start on SC, but I'm still in VDT mode, so please don't I'm trying to insult you! )
I actually wouldn't mind getting Andamson back for directing SC because I think that he wouldn't put a random subplot in it like they are doing for VDT. But if we get Apted directinpg it again I wouldn't be too surprised.
I hope Michael Apted comes back, but if not, Adamson would be awesome as well!

Who really owns the movie when it is being made, how much say-so does a director have in what goes in, or is it all up to Walden as to what happens?
^The production company chooses the director, it's it's the company that buys copyright, not the director. The reason why Andrew got the job in the first place was because he heard about the film going under movie copyrights and wrote an impressive outline on LWW what he wanted to do with it if he was the director. After the director is chosen yes he/she does have a say in the film and the vision is in their hands. But the company owns the movie and has more authority over the director.

When we find ourselves discussing here an Incredibly bizarre Apted quote, and find ourselves discussing Silver Chair rather than VDT, it looks very like the incredibly bizarre Apted quote is a strong hint that Apted will be directing SC as well. Of course I might be imagining things.....
I really think a completly new directer should do the Silver Chair. Preferably one who would do a mature, deep, and accurate retelling of th story. And one who is could at balancing characters and plot.
Winter Is Coming
I think Apted is setting up for SC, so if he does direct it, he will have a place to start of at. I don't know what will happen. With all the spoilers going on, I want to say get a new director. However I guess its only fair to at least see VDT first. Its very hard not to make up these opinions though.

I think it would be cool if Narnia had a different director for each film. Why? It keeps it unique with each director bringing a new perspective and look to each film, fitting with the chronological-style of the series.
The best director choice for Silver Chair would be Alfonso Cuaron, who has proven to have a knack for directing and producing fantasy films (Prisoner of Azkaban, Pan's Labyrinth, Children of Men). This might be possible since he also directed The Little Princess, which was produced by Narnia's very own Mark Johnson (who also claimed that the production was one of his most favorite). So Cuaron is not off the radar of possible directors.
But I also believe Warrior4Jesus is right, the real problem lies with the writers, not the director. A writer is what sets and designs the story with the director building on the base they created.
"Now we shall take the adventure that Aslan has given to us!"
I will be surprised if I don't want Mr Apted doing the next one as well. It's good to maintain some continuity - and I trust his track record. We shall see.
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
