I would love to have seen Michael Jackson's take on The Silver Chair! Hilarious.

I think that Micheal Apted should not direct the silver chair because it has an entirely different vibe from VDT. I think they should get a new director who will bring some new perspective.
I would be really supportive of Apted return for the Magician's Nephew, or maybe the horse and his boy.
maybe Chris Columbus? I've liked his work in the HP series, and in the Percy Jackson Movie.
I think it would be neat to see Tim Burton direct the Silver Chair, but personally, I think his design elements are better suited for a movie like The Magician's Nephew. As for Alfonso Cuarón directing, I don't think we would need to worry about plot lines being cut like they were in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, for that book was a good 200 pages longer, and some of the plot lines being cut were arguably necessary for a smoother film.

No, not Chris Columbus. His work is true to the books but rather pedestrian (at least his HP work, Gremlins was pretty awesome).

I'm not all that familiar with directors and which movies they've done and all that, but I do know that I do NOT want Tim Burton to do SC. I am not a fan of his style, and I really think he would put too much of a dark and obscure twist to it, as well as downplay the religious aspects of the story. And I'm not sure whether Apted would do well either, just because SC has an entirely different feel from VDT. I wouldn't want him to ruin it like Adamson did with PC. No suggestions otherwise. (I do think Adamson would make a perfect Puddleglum, though, at least appearance-wise).
I do agree that whoever plays LotGK has to come across as sweet and charming at first, but then appear completely evil when she's revealed. I would vote Tilda Swinton if she wasn't already the White Witch. She did a magnificent job of that in LWW. So someone with that same kind of talent and style (as long as it isn't Tilda).

It is true, that Burton would probably be better suited for The Magician's Nephew. But no Johnny Depp for Uncle Andrew.
Anyone think btw, that Tim Burton should have done A Series of Unfortunate Events with Johnny Depp playing Olaf instead of Jim Carrey?
Winter Is Coming
I think that John Hurt, who plays Ollivander in HP, would make a better Uncle Andrew than would Jim Carrey. At least John Hurt can get something like the right look. I understand that Jim Carrey played the villainous Uncle Olaf in Series of Unfortunate Events.
And I agree that Tim Burton would not fit Silver Chair. About Chris Columbus, don't forget that he managed to produce the first two HP films, that the first one is still among the highest grossing pictures of all time, and that he, as well as his staff on that film have also been involved with helping in the remainder of the HP films.
Did anyone like Tom Baker's performance as Puddleglum in the BBC version of Silver Chair?
Jim Carrey would be horrible as Uncle Andrew. The man plays the exact same character in every movie he makes and that character is nothing like Uncle Andrew.
I don't know how I feel about Chris Columbus. HP 1 and 2 were almost mirror images of the books, but the Narnia books aren't as cinematic. The first two HP movies also lacked character depth in their development. I completely disagree with Jim Carey as Uncle Andrew. It reminds me exactly of that character he played in A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Tim Burton directing Narnia?
That's my ultimate nightmare! I always dreamed of directing TSC myself. I use to believe that Hollywood would never get to making the movies. Tim Burton would be my LAST choice. Way too much eye-hurting color in his movies. Johnny Depp as Puddleglum...is just not a good choice, in my opinion. First of all he's way overused. Secondly, I'd be wanting something more along Tom Baker's performance in the BBC version. Helena Bonham Carter as the LotGK. I think she could pull that off quite well, actually. I hadn't thought of her for the role, but we could do far worse.
The director who ultimately makes The Silver Chair needs to be an old-school-and-patience director. In my totally unrealistic dream, I would have David Lean direct it. Silver Chair is a very ponderous and wanderous book. Therefore, you need to have a director who understands that and makes that a strong element rather than a boring one. Otherwise what we'll get is a movie infused with silly additions, twistings of chracter, and (worst of all) twistings of message. More than any of the other books, TSC really really needs the major themes to come out. Tim Burton can't do that. He just can't.

At this point, I'd like to wait and see what Apted does with VDT first. But to add my $0.02:
Definitely not Burton (but he'd never be interested in Narnia anyway). Christopher Nolan is the furthest thing from a fantasy director so I don't know where people are getting that idea from. And yeah, Chris Columbus has his hand in too many children's lit franchises lately - I think Narnia needs someone fresher and with a more particular interest in the material. Alfonso Cuaron is the only other name being tossed around that I think might be an interesting and plausible choice.

I think I have the dream director for The Silver Chair. Kenneth Branagh.
1) He has Narnia credentials (he narrated The Magician's Nephew for HarperCollins Audio).
2) He has a TON of movies under his belt. Not all were critical hits, but none were explicitly bad or badly-made. He's directed Shakespeare, and now he's directing Thor. That's a pretty wide range! Also, knowing his range (he voiced one of the main characters in the animated movie The Road to El Dorado) it's obvious that he doesn't consider himself "above" children's films.
3) He's an actor himself, so may know better what kind of performances to draw from other actors. He may be able to sign up some of his Shakespearean Actor friends for some parts.
Heck, let's hand the whole series over to him!!!

I actually like the idea of Kenneth Branagh as the director of SC, although I have to admit, I had no idea that he is/ or ever was directing films.

Trufflehunter, you need only check out his IMDB page to be impressed . Thor could be a pretty big hit.

I now really really, REALLY do agree! Kenneth Branagh would be a fantastic choice for the director of The Silver Chair!
