Lady Haleth, the Dragon Eustace/sea serpent fight didn't last very long at all, but the sea serpent scene was rather long.

I agree, the sea serpent scene was rather long, but was well done. It scared me a little...
"We have nothing if not belief"
I really enjoyed the sea serpent scene, and liked both Dragon Eustace and Edmund's battles with it.
It was very exciting and well animated, but I still thought it went on for a bit too long.

I thought it was more of a "the first scary thing that pops into your head will come to life" situation, more than "Edmund's greatest fear."
I agree with you. I thought that was pretty lame, myself. Yes, it was funny when Ed was like "I'm so sorry!" but it felt like they didn't know how else to include the sea serpent.
I'm 12 and I was scared- kind of in a good way? I was tensed up on the edge of the seat the entire time.
The "I'm so sorry!" is probably what I quote most from the movie cause it was pretty amusing.
Well, the sea serpent wasn't Edmund's greatest fear... I assumed it came from the one scene where Drinian mentioned the dangers of the ocean, and after that Edmund kinda lightheartedly mentioned the sea serpent...
This scene WAS rather long.
I think they should've explained more about HOW Eustace got to Ramandu's Island to place the last sword on the table... There was just SO much going on at once!!!
Oh, I just loved how Edmund coaxed the serpent closer and closer. Funny... it was also funny hearing Caspian yell, "EDMUND!!!"
I loved the Sea Serpent scene, because it was just the right amount of scary and looked brilliant. It did amuse me how they included it though- reminded me of Ghost Busters "Stay Puft Marshmallow Man!" quite a bit with the whole "Don't think of your worst nightmare, or it'll be REAL" thing.

I never thought the sea serpent was Edmund's biggest fear. It was just on his mind all the time because he was always teasing Drinian about it.
I agree, nothing ever showed him being afraid of sea serpants- he always (in the movie) acted as if he didnt believe in them, not that he was scared of them. it was just odd
I just wanted to point out, georgiefan1, just because someone acts like they aren't scared of something or like they don't believe in something doesn't mean they are not scared of it. In fact, if you study psychology, you'll find in most cases that Edmund's actions meant he was somewhat afraid of it because he scoffs at it and teases Drinian all the time. Not that I thought this was the case, but it is a possibility.

This was a very good scene. The design of the sea serpente was very well done and the battle added to the tension of the Dark Island. i actually liked how did they pulled it out, instead of a random encounter with the creature. Also it was nice to see Edmund do something. Speaking of how did the serpent came out to be, it actually makes sense. I don't know what others think, but I found it pretty obvious that Edmund was afraid of the sea serpent. The design f the creature was particularly gross and creepy. Was it me, or did the serpent seeled to focus its attacks on Edmund mostly? Nevermind, the action scene was pretty well done and it actually made sense. Probably it wasnt like in th book, but it certainly was well directed. I particularly like how the serpent attacked due to Edmunds fear and the Dark Islands influence. It feltore connected to the plot and it was a nice action tensed up scene before the ending.
Oh, also I liked how the creature opened its body. Truly didn't expext that to happen. I also liked how at the end, whebthe White Witch's illusion tells her to give her hand, Edmund simply ignores her. Is just like he finally completely got over his issue with her. Probably the WW appereance was unnecessary, but that moment truly reaffirmed how Edmund has completely let go the Witch.
Oh, and Eustace part in the battle was also pretty nicely done, and Reep was as hilarious and nutty as usual.

I very much disliked that line:
Lucy: "Edmund! What did you think of?"
Edmund: "I'm sorry!"
(Giant sea serpent looms.)
Rather than someone's nightmare, I would have much preferred it actually have existed before that. (I thought that earlier in the movie it was being discussed that a sea serpent might exist, but no one knew for sure.) If it had to be someone's nightmare, I would have much preferred it be the nightmare of everyone on the ship (like as soon as Rhoop says not to think of it, EVERYONE does).
The sea serpent went on way too long. Of course that is my impression from my first viewing. I will be expecting it to go on way too long when I see it a second time, so maybe it won't seem so bad then.
I haven't seen a snake scene in Harry Potter, but since this is a sea serpent, they probably have several differences. It was a great movie idea for the sea serpent to open out its legs in the middle of the battle, to get additional interest. Although, in the book Eustace didn't fight the sea serpent as a dragon at all. But I understand why they put the two together!
Sig/Avi by myself.
I thought the scene was ok but it didn't look much like a sea serpent to me. It reminded me of the monster from Cloverfield.
I also would have liked to see the serpent act like it did in the book more, and then to defeat it the way it was described in the book with the sepent looping around the ship to crush it and everyone in board pushing it off the end and all.
I was just wondering if anyone else noticed/thought this?
I only saw Voyage of the Dawn Treader once so sorry if I get anything wrong but in the scene where they are talking about how the mist or whatever it is would make your worst fears come true, and then Edmund makes a comment or sound and everyone looks at him, and so on...
This reminded me strongly of the scene in Ghostbusters which my topic title refers to.
I know I wasn't the only one because my sister leaned over and whispered the line in my ear in the theater but I was just wondering if anyone else thought of this when the scene was occurring? It detracted a bit from the suspense when I had to stop myself from laughing.
I found the Sea Serpant more gross than scary. Especially when it opened itself up.
Yeah that was really gross and unexpected!
I went to see this with friends and when that bit happened I looked over at them with this 'eughh!' look on my face...
One friend was laughing away like she wasn't even watching the same film as me and the other had the most hilarious 'eww!' look on her face!
It ruined the scare moment for me because her expression was so funny i started laughing, but this was second time round for me so I'd already seen the gross spiny sea serpent in 3D!!! Freaky!

I didnt have a problem with this scene, i actually really enjoyed it. I LOVED the shot of Lucy's arrow flying towards the sea serpent!
And, I dont think the sea serpent scene was similar to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets at all! I mean, other than the fact that they're both serpent-related, and the fact that they're both being fought against with swords....
