I don't see why Warden Media can't give up their rights to the movies, since they aren't going to make one, so someone else can make it.

Hello BalletBob and welcome to NarniaWeb. :)

Sadly, even if Walden did that (and they may have already for all I know), the Estate would still be required to wait the same amount of time before they could make another movie. No matter what, we're stuck a few more years before we hear any news on another Narnia movie I think.

It's fantastic to hear that there is a good chance of the next films being made, but at the same time I'm devastated to discover that if there's a 7 year period I will most likely be to old to audition for the role of Jill! Is 24/25 too old for Jill Pole?! I've dreamt of playing Jill and being in the Narnia movies and I just feel like I'd be perfect for the part but by 2017/18 I'll be at least 24! I do look young for my age, particularly as I'm very small but will my age hold me back?! It's also a great shame that Skandar Keynes, Georgie Henley, Anna Popplewell and Will Moseley, perhaps even Will Poulter, will most likely be too old to reprise their roles in The Silver Chair for Poulter and The Last Battle for the rest! Why can't Walden make the rest of the films, it's such a tremendous shame and I'm actually really gutted about all this!
I'd really appreciate some replies about my age issue!

I feel rather "meh" about the Walden series as a whole. Even LWW didn't fully draw me in. I think mostly because the tone of the films fluctuated quite a bit and the series itself feels a bit disconnected. No more Narnia films would be very sad, but a fresh start with a set idea for the entire series after a hiatus would be good I think.

Welcome to Narniaweb, GracieSKx! If you really want to play Jill, get an agent. That's really the only advice anyone here can give you as none us are the casting directors. ;)

Really? We have to wait that long before they make any more Narnia movies? Where is their dedication? :(

Its not about dedication; its about what's legal. I don't know why the moratorium is in place to begin with, but since it is they have to wait it out. If anything, I have to admire Gresham's dedication to the series since he is apparently so determined to adapt all of the books even with this long waiting period.

I'm sort of sad there are no more big budget Narnia films in the foreseeable future, but in a way I'm happy about it too. I think a lower budget, independent film will require a lot of love and dedication, and focus. That's something the Narnia films as a whole haven't had. I'll be okay with low budget special effects and sets as long as the acting and writing is solid. It could be a really beneficial turn of events for Narnia.

Of course, it could just end up even worse than it was before, because a smaller budget is no guarantee for better writing. I couldn't bear a really low budget VoDT style movie. It could be awful. :|

What is a moratorium anyway? Considering how long it takes to expire, I surmise that it's spelt P-R-O-C-A-S-T-I-N-A-T-I-O-N . . .?

A moratorium is in essence a legally required waiting period. At the time the moratorium was put in place Walden still held the rights to adapt the books into films. Based on what Gresham said, in order for a different studio to be able to adapt the books there is a legal obligation to wait a certain amount of time before the studio can buy the rights. I think there is a bit more to it than that and I do not understand all of the legalese involved, but I do know that they have to wait to produce another Narnia film with any studio other than Walden. As for why it is so long, I have no idea. It probably has something to do with protecting Walden's rights to the movies and merchandise that was already produced.

Hi canterwood15! Welcome to NarniaWeb. I hope you're enjoying yourself so far! We really are a close knit family here, and we're so glad that you decided to join us.

I agree with you that the actors will be too old (well. . . Eustace at least. With everybody else it doesn't really matter how old they get.) But just because the actors will be too old, doesn't change the law.

For movie companies it's all about money. . . I don't think they really care about appeasing fans. Their main thought seems to be "What is the best ratio of cost vs. quality that will yield the most profit for us." The estate, on the other hand, wants good adaptations over anything else (naturally).

That is why this moratorium is in place. That is why it is actually illegal for a big film company to make SC into a movie for the next seven years. Is it frustrating? Of course it is. . . what started out as a wonderfully adapted franchise with rather a lot of potential, quickly got derailed, and got sent into a chasm of cliche. The estate has always been, and will (hopefully) always be, focused on safeguarding the books that we hold so dear, even if that means sacrificing the rest of the films.

It might be the alarm that wakes up the series in a sense though. Whoever takes it up may be a bigger fan of Narnia then the directors and writers before. They will weigh the pros and cons a lot before they decide they can just come out with something that will turn out to be a big flop. If you have less money you think more carefully and creatively more of the time to make sure you get your money's worth. :)

Let's hope so!
After the mistakes they made with Caspian, the Dawn Treader was a big improvement. They need to keep it on that level!

I hope they make SC next and as soon as possible. It's my favorite book, and I hope and pray that they do Jill's encounter with Aslan first class. "There is no other stream."

Who would they get to play Puddleglum? That will be an important choice, because his humor and courage really carry the plot along.
