Okay, if Gulliver's Travels is made by FOX and does well, doe sthis mean they'll have enough money to do VDT. Heard both FOX and WALDEN MEDIA wanted to continue the series.
No. Gulliver's Travels doing well is completely irrelevant. Even if Fox has the money, they will not make SC unless VDT's money-making performance is enough to convince them that making SC would be a worthwhile investment. I don't see how Gulliver's Travels doing well would make a difference. I don't think it would make Fox more open to taking financial risks...
I don't think Gulliver's Travels has anything to do with Narnia other than their common distributor. I believe that Walden (and maybe even Fox too) want to keep the series alive, but the success of other Fox films, in this case Gulliver's Travels, will do nothing but hurt VDT's box office.
"I'm a beast I am, and a Badger what's more. We don't change. We hold on. I say great good will come of it... And we beasts remember, even if Dwarfs forget, that Narnia was never right except when a son of Adam was King." -Trufflehunter

I don't think so. Gulliver's Travels was released today, in Australia, along with Little Fockers, The tourist and Yogi Bear, all of which are doing well, not just locally. Of course being the sort of dumb movie Gulliver's Travels looks to be, it got rave reviews. This movie 'adaptation' to make it suitable for children doesn't even deal with the other 75% of the original book as far as I could see. Only the 'cutesy' but incredibly petty-minded Lilliput .
If Fox, at any rate, had been serious about continuing the series, it would have insisted that VDT was to be released in Australia on Boxing Day, the one day of the year when there are only four things to do besides eat Christmas Day leftovers, clear up the wrapping paper and farewell departing family members:
1. Get trampled in the Boxing Day specials.
2. Watch the start of the Sydney-Hobart yacht race. There will be another race next year same time same place.
3. Watch cricket, an acquired taste. And this year's Ashes series is definitely more painful than usual. Ouch! Watching Australia going down the gurgler to the UK is only slightly less painful than watching VDT's box office numbers.
4. Go to the movies. It keeps Dad and the kids happy.
It really makes me heartbroken. Quite a lot of loving care and effort went into the making of Dawn Treader, from the lovely boat itself, with its intricate leadlighting, rear balconies, name plate and the signatures around the mast, the bell with the seven lords on it, the lintel and doorframes of King Caspian's cabin and the fretwork on deck. Then there was the lovely garden where Lucy meets her temptation, plus the equally, spookily Narnian Aslan's table site. And when I am talking about loving attention, I don't mean just the money.
The actors all did their best, not only Will Poulter. And I can see why there were additions. Gael, for instance, was necessary to show Drinian's softer side, to show that Lucy was really reformed and able to think of others besides herself and to demonstrate why Dufflepuds would want Lucy reading the spell. In some ways I feel that the film was better in some ways than the book, since I had a clearer idea of why Film Edmund was in Narnia, in comparison with Book Edmund.
I agree that VDT is not going to be to everyone's taste, but I am so disappointed that so many people have bagged this film unnecessarily, even fans. It is almost as if a huge bunch of people were determined to be disappointed in the movie, whilst others stayed away in droves, I fear, because of negative reviews.
I'm almost ready to concede defeat. I am! I've been to this film three times, and have organised a family party to see it. It would be a miracle if Silver Chair gets made. (Goes off to sob in private. )
Maybe if we started contests or something, some sort of challenge like a race to get the book done or essay contests maybe...
Oh I just had a thought what if we or NW or somebody started a facebook event, a challenge to read one of the other 6 books in one week. The only rule would be that you couldn't use The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Seriously if NW doesn't do that I just might. We could invite all our friends and they could invite their friends, etc. at least it'd help a little.
An excellent idea! We'd have to ask the mods and get Tirian involved, but I don't think that they'd mind organizing a winter reading list event. Maybe Tirian could even pull a couple of strings and get Narniafans, Narnia.com, Walden, and/or HarperCollins involved. The more websites work together, the more likely that this event will be a success.
I just got ten people to promise me they'd see the movie!
Wow! Congrats! That is quite a group. Don't forget to double-check with them in a couple of weeks and ask if they have seen it yet.

3. Watch cricket, an acquired taste. And this year's Ashes series is definitely more painful than usual. Ouch! Watching Australia going down the gurgler to the UK is less painful than watching VDT's box office numbers. At least there will be another Ashes series next year, or the year after to win. Or lose.
4. Go to the movies. It keeps Dad and the kids happy . In fact it is a tradition, and Aussie films, films featuring Aussie actors (cough! cough! Nicole Kidman) or using Australian localities often take pride of place. VDT satisfies two of those three criteria. Why not this year?
If anyone had been serious about promoting VDT we would have been seeing toys and souvenirs all over the place. They are still selling T-shirts from the Twilight movie series at the local cinema, why not the VDT ones? Even if I wanted to buy one of the more limited women's range of T-shirts, the Fox shop doesn't take orders from Australia. VDT would be connected to every promotion going. And it isn't even as if the opposition movies are so demonstrably better in quality. Yogi Bear, anyone? Did anyone like Megamind?

I was quite happy that Caspian didn't throw the sort of hissy fits book Caspian was guilty of doing. As well, I understand now exactly why the undragoning was done the way it was.

It is almost as if a huge bunch of people were determined to be disappointed in the movie, whilst others stayed away in droves, I fear, because of negative reviews. It is almost like VDT is as proscribed in some way as was Golden Compass which I think got a fairer go even if the Minister advised us not to buy His Dark Materials as Christmas presents, or take children to see the movie.

Thinks! But then Nicole Kidman, who played Mrs Coulter, would be an excellent LOTGK, wouldn't she?
I've come up with a couple more ways to help the Narnia franchise. One costs money, the other doesn't:
1. Buy Narnia merchandise. If you haven't bought the first two films yet, do so. Also buy the soundtracks, especially Dawn Treader's. Grab a copy of Carrie Underwood's "There's a Place for Us" (you can afford a 99 cent song, can't you?) and take a look at the shirts and mugs and things that Fox is selling. Have you been thinking about buying the mobile phone game? You might want to grab that soon as well.
2. Visit Narnia websites, and give Dawn Treader a high, yet honest, rating on regular movie websites. Websites count how many pages you visit on a website. Each new page you visit is called a "hit". If you visit Narnia.com, they'll count all of the pages you visit, and the number of times you visit them. So, if you haven't started playing the fun "Explore Narnia" game yet, now is a good time. They have a sunken treasure search daily, which will get you back to the site again and again. It also allows you to post your achievements to Facebook, which is another great way to get people interested in Narnia, and to show them that you are a Narnia fan. Speaking of Facebook, don't forget to "like" the Official Narnia fan page, as well as the website.
Movie websites such as movies.yahoo.com, imdb.com, and rottentomatoes.com all have places where you can rate movies and leave comments (on some you can even write reviews). Show your support by leaving thoughtful, positive comments. Who knows, you might influence an average movie-goer to see Dawn Treader.

I'd love to buy merchandise from Fox shop but they don't seem to think they have to sell merchandise to Australian addresses apparently.

I don't think there is any need to write to Walden. They want to make the film. Fox is the one we need to convince.

I figure I'll write one to Walden to tell them what I wish they would leave in SC and then write one to Fox to ask them to finance SC (which is pretty much fruitless if the box office doesn't pan out with substantial improvement).

This New Year's weekend is going to be a big one for movies. Let's make sure that Dawn Treader does well. Think of which friends haven't seen the movie yet and offer to go with them. Maybe even make it a Narnian weekend by watching all three!
Movie Aristotle, AKA Risto
I've tried that, MA. Still waiting to get an email back... My main problem is I don't have many friends. I did watch PC with them a few weeks ago since they hadn't seen it and the new movie was coming out.
I also wear my Narnia shield necklace quite a bit and that often leads to mentioning the movie.

You want to know how to save the franchise? Get rid of the screenwriters. If SC is greenlit, but the original writers remain, the series will only go further downhill both critically and financially. With all respects to the writers Mcfeely and Markus, I think it's clear that we need a change of writers. Cliched/mediocre/bad writing have always been holding the series back and I don't need to remind fans that the writers are the originator of major changes in any adaptation. Get a writer that understands the basic themes of the series and the quality of series will go up. Yes, yes I know this might be a little different from the financial success needed to save the series but honestly I would rather have a good film with good writing rather than a hundred successful craptastic films from the studio.
"Now we shall take the adventure that Aslan has given to us!"
Savber100, I totally agree. This has been a problem right from the beginning. I think there is so much potential for a well written script. I can't bear to think SC will have weak dialogue and cheesy exposition.
I want SC to be greenlit, but only if SC will have some quality to it. I think that is important for financial success as well.
