I liked the way the Pevensies and Eustace walked through the tunnel in the wave, and it closed up behind them as they looked back at Caspian and Aslan. I also loved the way the water level lowered, and they slowly drifted onto the bed and floor, and the painting sucked up all the last bits of water. I also liked the way Eustace's journal entry and the closing door ended the movie, although I do admit, there was something that was unfulfilling about ending the movie this way. I can't pin-point exactly what it is, and I don't know how i'd prefer it ended, but there is still something about this scene that I wish was different. Any thoughts?

I cried so hard in that bit because of what you hear Eustace say:
"We spoke often of Narnia in the days that followed....."
that was so well done! it was amazing! I love it!

It was a bittersweet ending. After all, those looks Edmund and Lucy gave before they left was really sad, unlike the endings of LWW and PC. All three do have a hope to it, LWW with Lucy and Digory, PC with Edmund and Lucy, and VDT with Eustace. But this ending was most likely the most emotional of them all. I did think the ending in Cambridge was very nice!
I loved the ending because it was bittersweet like Shastafan said, bittersweet, and also it harked back to the beginning in the sense that they get brought back to Narnia by a painting flooding and go back to England by the picture draining back again... kinda like closing the loop of the adventure... is that what you were trying to say Trufflehunter?

I just saw it again today and I loved this scene as it was, the only things I didn't like were Aunt Alberta calling out that Jill was visiting downstairs...probably should have skipped ahead in time a bit and showed a small bit where Eustace's parents are complaining about how changed he is...maybe with a shot of him doing something with Ed and Lucy....and dissolve into the credits....
But the scene that ended up onscreen was fine as it was.

Oddly enough, this scene was my favorite in the entire film. It had a really poignant feel, and I loved the way Eustace reverently places the painting back on the wall, and the expressions on Lucy and Edmund's faces. I thought the music and just the general feel of that part was beautiful.
I do agree that something was missing, though. Come to think of it, does anyone remember hearing the trademark lion roar that was present in the end scene of both LWW and PC?
I remember that roar at the end of LWW but not PC...maybe they should have had a cut into the VDT credits with the Scrubb parents lamenting Eustace's change, that would have been unexpected....

The last time I saw PC, you could hear the lion's roar as the train carrying the Pevensies back to school disappeared into the tunnel, right before the credits came. I was watching it onDemand, though, so I'm not sure what it's like on the DVD or how it was in theaters.
I like the idea of the Scrubbs talking about Eustace during the credits; that could have been amusing.
The lion's roar was just how you said it was in PC, The Rose-Tree Dryad. Was the lion's roar maybe after the credits in VDT? I wouldn't know because I didn't stay to see the end of the credits..

I think the VDT ending was roar-less. I sat through the credits.

I was waiting to see Caspain and the star's daughter get married!
I agree that the only unfulfilling thing about the ending is not seeing Caspian returning to Lilliandil.
I thought the ending was amazing. From them saying good-bye to Aslan and their friends to them returning to our world and then to Eustace hanging the painting back on the wall. I especially loved the mention of Jill Pole. However, I do wish they had shown Caspian returning to Lilliandil. Or maybe they could have at least had Caspian talking about going back for her. But still I loved the ending. Even though it was extremely sad I think I enjoyed this ending more than LWW and PC's.

Yeah... VDT's ending is probably the most depressing of the series so far.
I think it doesn't help because it feels like the end of the series as well. No more pevensies.
