I was watching VDT, enjoying the lovely ending, and then when Reep left I was jarred out of my happy end-of-movie feel to discover that Reep was picking up a coracle and floating up the wave and off into Aslan's country.
Where did THAT come from? Not the scene! The coracle! Why was a coracle just sitting there? Bah, it was just strange. What do you all think?

I know! I was so weirded out. I guess it came with Aslan!

I thought it strange too. I mean, I love that they kept the coracle in the movie, but it was wierd the way it just showed up. Obviously in the book, Reep was planning on continuing on to the end of the world, so he brought his coracle so he could go on past wherever the others stopped. That's why he had it at the end scene. In the movie, however, Reep's decision to go into Aslan's Country was basically a last-minute thing, so why did he bring the coracle? It made no sense.
De_De, your idea might be the closest thing to a satisfactory answer one can come up with at this point. =P

I liked how it made it seem "fated" that Reep would go to Aslan's country. There was a boat his size waiting for him. If they had set up Reep's sense of longing, and emphasized his lullaby more, that could have been a powerful moment.
I admit it's a pretty jarring when the coracle suddenly appears....but I kind of liked the feeling that it was fated.
I liked that it just appeared. It made me think that Aslan had just provided it, showing how Aslan always provides the way to get to his country.
well, it was mysterious as to where the coracle came from, but I didn't feel jolted out of the story for that bit though afterward I was muddled about it
oh well!

I know! haha I thought I was the only one who noticed
if they'd made it slightly more significant it could've helped suggest that it was 'fated'/ a gift from aslan, but the fact that it was first shown in the shot that he jumps into it was...jarring, as others have said.
Grief for the movies made me abandon narniaweb...but I'm so glad to be back!
Many thanks to the wonderful Lady Eowyn for making my sig/av.
I was enjoying the ending like sweeetlilgurlie, and suddenly the coracle pops up! Where in the world did that come from! was the face that my sister and I gave to each other. I had been wondering how reep was going to get to aslans country without his coracle and poof! it apears! I am glad that it was still in the movie, but it was like they just stuck in there, like it was an after thought.

That's just like Eustace 'poof' appearing at Ramandu's Island and in the water at the end. Lots of teleportation in this film.

The 'poof' appearing at Ramanu's Island did make a bit sence, because he was with Aslan before that happened. But Eustace appearing in the water at the end didn't make sence at all.. Good swimmer I guess..
Okay, so I was thrilled that they even included the coracle at all, but I do agree that its appearance was a bit random. The part that bugs me the most about that is that the average moviegoer would have absolutely NO idea where it came from. I knew where it came from of course, but I'm sure someone who hadn't known about it would've been confused. "Oh, look, it's a little boat! Oh, now the mouse is leaving in the little boat. Where did he even get the little boat? And why is he leaving?"
Maybe Aslan gave it to Reep as a gift? It's like Father Christmas all over again.

I think by that point in the movie there had been so many unexplained moments occuring that i'd imagine most of them were probably willing to let that last one just slide.
My personal favourite random unexplained moment.... Edmund:"The Stone Knife! It must be Aslan's Table!" - Wait, what? Must it? How do you know these things?
Yes! That was an odd one. After some thought I decided that Aslan might have told the Pevensies what he did with the knife sometime during their reign in the Golden Age. But after typing that idea down it sounds like something Aslan wouldn't do...
I'm thinking that for all of these little poof things there is a cut scene or two that would have eased them into the movie a little better.

Yeah, true. That's kind of how I felt. It could be that because I read the book I didn't notice, but it's only till I saw this thread that I realized there was no explanation for the coracle.
I know! I had a subconscious thought, "um, how do you know it's Aslan's table?" Again, though, there were so many unexplained occurrences at that point I pretty much ignored it.
